Wind monitoring system is an absolutely-required system for assessing a performance and fatigue load of the wind energy generator in an on-shore wind energy experimental research complex. It was implemented for the purpose of monitoring the wind information measured from a meteorological tower at the monitoring house and of utilizing the measured data for the performance assessment, by using the LabVIEW program. Then, by adding the performance assessment-related data acquired from the wind energy generator during the performance assessment and the data recorder for synchronizing the data of meteorological tower, the system was implemented. Because it transmitted the data by converting the output 'RS-232' of data logger which measures the wind condition into CAN protocol, the data error rate was minimized, This paper is intended to explain the developed wind data monitoring system.
In this paper, A generator of existing vertical type wind turbine system is connected to bevel gear. But, the generator of proposed wind turbine system is connected to Hydraulic torque converter. In case of the proposed wind turbine system, is possible to make torque transmission long distance, set up generator somewhere in between the tower or the ground as well as, nacelle weight can be greatly down. Lightweight of nacelle exactly wind direction tracking can be easily also, cost down of established frame structure and generator setting, maintenance, easy and improvement of system stability.
The performance of the wind turbine is determined by wind speed and unsteady flow characteristics. Unsteady wake flow causes not only the decline in performance but also structural problems of the wind turbine. In this paper, conceptual designs for the wind turbine tower are conducted to minimize unsteady wake flow. Numerical simulations are performed to inspect the shape effect of the tower. Through the installation of additional structures at the rear of the tower, the creation of Karman vortex is delayed properly and vortex interactions are reduced extremely, which enhance the stability of the wind turbine. From the comparative analysis of lift and drag coefficients for each structure, it is concluded that two streamwise tips with a splitter plate have the most improved aerodynamic characteristics in stabilizing wake flow.

In this paper a practical modelling methodology is presented for a series of aero- servo- elastic- coupled numerical analyses of small wind turbine operation, with particular emphasis on variable speed generator modelling in various wind speed conditions. The following characteristics are determined using the available computer tools: the tip speed ratio as a function of the generator constant (under the assumption of constant wind speed), the turbine coefficient of power as a function of the tip speed ratio (the torque curve is modified accordingly and generator speed and power curves are plotted), turbine power curves and coefficient of power curve as functions of the incoming wind speed. The last stage is to determine forces and torques acting on rotor blades and turbine tower for specific incoming wind speeds in order to examine the impact of the stall phenomena on these values (beyond the rated power of the turbine). It is shown that the obtained results demonstrate a valuable guideline for small wind turbines design process.
A various algorism has been studied to extract possibly every energy from a wind turbine in conjunction with the increase of concern about wind power system. In order to verify these control algorism, it is essential to make the most similar conditions to the real wind turbine's environment. Therefore, using separately excited DC motor a wind turbine the most similar to the real turbine is simulated. Tower shadow effect and Wind shear effect are considered as well as inertia emulation. For the control of Back-to-Back Converter Vector current control methods and space vector pulse width modulation are used and for reducing THD of grid current LCL filter is considered. This simulation results verified the energy produced by wind all flows into the utility under the consideration of the characteristics of a wind turbine. The result of this paper is expected to be used as a basic material for analyzing the characteristics of the wind turbine generator.
This paper proposes design and implementation of wind turbine simulators which incorporate the turbine dynamic characteristics. At first, the turbine output characteristic in steady state is modelled as a function of wind speed and then dynamic characteristics are modelled such as pitch angle control, torsional vibration, tower shadow effect, wind shear effect, and inertia effect. In addition, a wind speed simulator is developed which can generate the real wind speed pattern. The wind turbine simulator is implemented with 3[kW] M-G set(cage-type induction motor coupled with doubly-fed induction generator) at laboratory.
A reduced structure model of a wind turbine generator is designed and manufactured. Mode data are obtained by modal testing and analytical method. Vibration response is measured and investigated under various speed condition by using a waterfall plot. Possibility of severe resonance is observed and the mechanism is explained by using the mode data. Simplified theoretical model gives the 1st resonance frequency of wind turbine structure model. The theoretical model can be applied in the design stage of the wind turbine structure to avoid the severe resonance problem.
Control algorithms and implementation issues for a wind turbine simulator are presented for realistic emulation of variable wind characteristics using a lab-scale motor and generator set. When the average wind speed nd turbulence level is given, the torque reference of prime mover is decided through various blocks, such as random wind speed generator, blade characteristic curves, and tower effect compensation. The variable nature of wind can be implemented and tested by not only the computer simulation but also the hardware-in-loop-simulator (HILS). Some application examples of HILS include the development and test of turbine control software for more efficient and stable operation. Feasibility of the proposed simulator has verified by computer simulations and experiment.
A vibration monitoring is performed on a 1kW class stand alone wind turbine(W/T). When a W/T model is developed, general performance under various wind condition should be verified to introduce the product in the market. Especially, vibration characteristics within operating speed range are very important in the aspect of structural stability as well as generator's electrical efficiency. This paper examines the vibration performance of a home made 1kW W/T Various data of the W/T model are acquired in real time using a remote vibration monitoring system installed in Daekwanryung test site. Vibration stability of the W/T structure is diagnosed based upon the data and the result is used to estimate the applicability of the W/T model.
As constantly increasing wind power penetrates power grid, wind power plants (WPPs) are exerting a direct influence on the traditional power system. Most of WPPs are using variable speed constant frequency (VSCF) wind turbines equipped with doubly fed induction generators (DFIGs) due to their high efficiency over other wind turbine generators (WTGs). Therefore, the analysis of DFIG has attracted considerable attention. Precisely measuring optimum reference speed is basis of utilized maximum wind power in electric power generation. If the measurement of wind speed can be easily taken, the reference of rotation speed can be easily calculated by known system's parameters. However, considering the varying wind speed at different locations of blade, the turbulence and tower shadow also increase the difficulty of its measurement. The aim of this study is to design fuzzy controllers to replace the wind speedometer to track the optimum generator speed based on the errors of generator output power and rotation speed in varying wind speed. Besides, this paper proposes the fuzzy adaptive PID control to replace traditional PID control under rated wind speed in variable-pitch wind turbine, which can detect and analyze important aspects, such as unforeseeable conditions, parameters delay and interference in the control process, and conducts online optimal adjustment of PID parameters to fulfill the requirement of variable pitch control system.
