  • Cloud meteorological properties over Daegwallyeong mountain area were analyzed for experimental cloud seeding which related to a feasibility study of fog modification. The cloud seeding for fog modification has been refocused to using hygroscopic chemical to dissipate warm fog. In this study, the statistics of fog observations were analyzed and discussed. Fog properties mostly showed the Summer warm fog, the early morning occurrences before to 6 o'clock AM, and 7 to 9 o'clock dissipation in the statistics. In the Spring and Winter season an easterly wind produced cold fog which is good applied with AgI seeding agents. Extrapolation of these results suggests that the suitable seeding method and material for fog modification will be introduced from the actual seeding experiments in the cold and warm fog.

  • Riparian buffer zone prevents sediment entry into drainage channels or as a protection from runoff and wind erosion. However, Studies about its removing effect according to Riparian buffer zone are shorted now. In this study, using the SWAT model, Byongseong watershed is built on the Arcview GIS. Using the function of the filter strip in SWAT model, it is also examined about the variation of sediment yield. As a simulation result, the case of constructing riparian buffer zones at subbasins near the outlet shows generally high efficiency on removing sediment yield. In addition, according to the scenario analysis of changing riparian buffer zone width, it is thought that 5-10m riparian buffer zone width is the highest efficiency on removing sediment yields generated from Byeongseong watershed.

  • Flame spread velocity to virgin surface fuel bed on a ground slope increases as the flame gets closer to the slope according to the change of a ground slope angle. The existing studies have generally adopted the theory that flame gets closer to the slope as the slope angle increases, without considering the change of flame tilt against the slope. In this study, experiments were made on the actual characteristics of the flame on slopes of various angles, and as a result, this study offers the flame tilt equation according to the slope angle, and derive correlation between flame tilt and flame spread velocity on slope conditions.

Immersion it will wind from Augmented Reality and the hazard which it strengthens the removal of the additional entry device which stands is necessary. It recognizes the space coordinates which is accurate even from the condition where the hazard marker which will reach does not attach in necessity. Immersion feeling improvement from Augmented Reality wearing the hazard additional entry device it proposes the space coordinate creation technique of the virtuality description below for a interaction without from the present paper. The method which is proposed the image which it acquires the object of virtuality reflected at 2D space and the characteristic line about under extracting the space coordinate which reflects about under calculating it reflected. The application is possible in markerless Augmented Reality and the mobile Augmented Reality.

  • It is known that damages to the subsea cables used for electric power transmission between islands and countries, including renewable energy from offshore wind power, current, tides, etc., cost much to restore, which causes social and economic losses. Various types of fishing rigs and anchors have been reported to be the greatest hazards to subsea cables. It is possible to design and construct a suitable protection facility for a subsea cable by precisely estimating the underwater behavior of such hazardous apparatuses. In this study, numerical simulations of the underwater behaviors of various hazardous apparatuses were carried out using fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis as a basic study to simulate the actual behavior phenomena of hazardous apparatuses in relation to a subsea cable. In addition, the underwater drop characteristics according to the types of hazardous apparatuses were compared. In order to verify the accuracy of the FSI analysis method used in this study, we compared the test results for underwater drops of a steel ball bearing. Stock anchors, stockless anchors, and rocket piles, which were actually reported to be the cases of damage to subsea cables along the southwest coast of Korea, were considered as the hazardous apparatuses for the numerical simulations. Each hazardous apparatus was generated by a Lagrangian model and coupled with the fluid domain idealized by the Eulerian equation to construct the three-dimensional FSI analysis model. The accuracy of the numerical simulation results was verified by comparing them with the analytical solutions, and the underwater drop characteristics according to the types of hazard apparatuses were compared.

  • In order to simulate storm surge for the west coast, complex physics of asymmetrical typhoon wind vortex, tide and wave are simultaneously incorporated on a fine finite element mesh extended to the North Western Pacific sea. Asymmetrical vortex based on maximum wind radii for each quadrant by JTWC's best tracks are input in pADCIRC and wave stress is accounted by dynamic coupling with unSWAN. Computations performed on parallel clusters. In hindcasting simulation of typhoon Kompasu(1007), model results of wave characteristic are very close with the observed data at Ieo island, and sea surface records at major tidal stations are reproduced with satisfaction when typhoon is approaching to the coast. It is obvious that increasing of local storm surges can be found by introducing asymmetrical vortex. Thus this approach can be satisfactorily applied in coastal hazard management against to storm surge inundation on low level area and major harbor facilities.

  • In this study, numerical analyses were used to investigate the performance of a coupling control method for the dynamic responses of adjacent buildings under multiple hazards. Numerical simulations were done using the earthquake loads of regions with strong seismicity in Los Angeles, California, and the wind loads in regions with strong winds in Charleston, North Carolina. The artificial earthquake and wind loads were made using SIMQKE and Kaimal Spectrum based on ASCE 7-10. Ten-story and twenty-story adjacent buildings were selected as example structures, and nonlinear hysteretic dampers were used to connect them. The Bouc-Wen model was used to model the nonlinear hysteretic dampers. The results show that the proposed control method could effectively reduce the dynamic responses, and the optimal control designs were different for each hazard.

  • The structural methodology in designing a transmission tower have been performed to assume a simple truss behavior. But there're quite differences between a simple truss behavior and a real one. A suitable explanation for a structural stability can be expressed as a semi-rigid connection instead of the assumed hinged connection. This study proposes an alternative structural analysis modelling strategy for the transmission tower design. Proposed element models are truss element model, beam element model, and combined beam-truss element model. The static finite element analysis shows that there's a moment distribution between a mainpost member and the other bracing member.

  • In this study, investigation and appraisal method for the scene of a fire according to electrical fire hazards of hair dryer which is usually used at living space are presented. Hair dryer is briefly composed of heating part, wind part and control part. Electrical fire hazards of hair dryer are insulation destruction of power cord, ignition by overheat of heating coil, scattering spark on inside dust, overheat of motor by fan shackle, ignition by carelessness of user, and so on. Fire cause by hair dryer can be perceived through investigation about half-disconnection of power cord, contact badness of power plug, verification of heating coil, fan and switch. These results are expected to be utilized effectively in a countermeasure to prevent an electrical fire by hair dryer.

  • Fire and explosion analysis are performed for the quantitative risk assessment on the LNG test plant. From the analysis for a case of fire due to large leakage of LNG from the tank, it is obtained that loss of lives can be occurred within the radius of 60 m from the fire origin. Specially, wind can extend the extent of damage. Because the LNG test plant is not enclosed, the explosion overpressure is less than 6 kPa and the explosion has little effect on the integrity of the LNG test plant.
