  • This paper proposes a novel voltage distortion approach for output filter design based on the voltage transfer function for both off-grid and grid-connected Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Inverters. The method explained in detail is compared to conventional methods. A comparative analysis is performed on an example of L and LCL-filter design. Simulation and experimental results for the off-grid and the grid-connected single phase inverter prove our theoretical predictions. It was found that conventional methods define redundant values of the output filter elements. Assumptions and limitations of the proposed approach are also discussed.

  • A digital controller with a low-power approach for point-of-load synchronous buck converters is discussed and compared with its analog counterpart to confirm its feasibility for system integration. The tri-mode digital controller IC in $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process is presented to demonstrate solutions that include a PID, quarter PID, and robust RST compensators. These compensators address the steady-state, stand-by, and transient modes according to the system operating point. An idle-tone free condition for ${\Sigma}-{\Delta}$ DPWM reduces the inherent tone noise under DC-excitation. Compared with that of the traditional approach, this condition generates a quasi-pure modulation signal. Experimental results verify the closed-loop performances and confirm the power-saving mechanism of the proposed controller.

  • In this study, we fabricate Pt nanoparticle (NP)-embedded MOS capacitors at room temperature and investigate their memory characteristics. The Pt NPs are separated from each other and situated between the tunnel and control oxide layers. The average size and density of the Pt NPs are 4 nm and $3.2{\times}10^{12}cm^{-2}$, respectively. Counterclockwise hysteresis with a width of 3.3 V is observed in the high-frequency capacitance-voltage curve of the Pt NP-embedded MOS capacitor. Moreover, more than 93% of the charge remains even after $10^4$ s.

  • This paper proposes the boost input type resonant power supply for driving the magnetron device of the high-capacity microwave oven. Circuit topology of the proposed power supply is the boost input type resonant converter which uses the resonance between transformer leakage inductance and resonance capacitance. Proposed power supply obtains high power factor more than 98% through continuous current mode pulse width modulation. To verify the validity of the proposed power supply, operation principle in the steady state is analyzed and experimental results are presented.

  • An MgO thin film sputtering system for the PDP (Plasma Display Panel) applications has been developed. This system was manufactured with a vertical In-Line type of 42 inch, which has the length of 520 mm and the width of 900 mm. A reactive magnetron discharge for this sputtering was generated using an unipolar pulsed power supply which has functions of constant voltage (Max. 500 V) and current (Max. 15 A) control, frequency of $10{\sim}100$ kHz and duty ratio of $10{\sim}60$ %. The experiment was conducted under various conditions : $3{\sim}10$ mTorr of pressure, the ratio of $O_2$/Ar = $0.1{\sim}0.5$, 50 % of duty and power of $0.5{\sim}1.7$ kW. From the experiment, the deposition rate of a static state and a moving state were measured to be about 45 nm/min and 6 nm m/min at the distance of 50 mm between the target and the substrate, respectively.

  • In this study, we have fabricated a three branches vertical Hall sensor for detecting three phases rotation informations of miniaturized brushless motor. The sensor gives three position signals phase shifted by $120^{\circ}$, corresponding to the motor driving signals. The branch has one Hall output and one input each other. The central part acts as common driving input. Sensor has branch width of $150{\mu}m$ and distance from central electrode to Hall electrode of $100{\mu}m$. The sensitivity of sensor is 250 V/$A{\cdot}T$ at magnetic field of 0.1 T. It has also showed three sine waves of Hall voltages with $120^{\circ}$ phase over a $360^{\circ}$ rotation. A packaged sensing part are $2{\times}2mm^{2}$ and has been successfully tested on a motor rotation at a speed up to 60,000 rpm.

  • This paper presents an interleaved resonant converter to reduce the voltage stress of power MOSFETs and achieve high circuit efficiency. Two half-bridge converters are connected in series at high voltage side to limit MOSFETs at $V_{in}/2$ voltage stress. Flying capacitor is used between two series half-bridge converters to balance two input capacitor voltages in each switching cycle. Variable switching frequency scheme is used to control the output voltage. The resonant circuit is operated at the inductive load. Thus, the input current of the resonant circuit is lagging to the fundamental input voltage. Power MOSFETs can be turn on under zero voltage switching. Two resonant circuits are connected in parallel to reduce the current stress of transformer windings and rectifier diodes at low voltage side. Interleaved pulse-width modulation is adopted to decrease the output ripple current. Finally, experiments are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed converter.

  • Design, Simulation and experimental analysis of closed loop time domain based Discrete PWM buck-boost converter are described. To improve the transient response and dynamic stability of the proposed converter, Discrete PID controller is the most preferable one. Discrete controller does not require any precise analytical model of the system to be controlled. The control system of the converter is designed using digital PWM technique. The proposed controller improves the dynamic performance of the buck-boost converter by achieving a robust output voltage against load disturbances, input voltage variations and changes in circuit components. The converter is designed through simulation using MATLAB/Simulink and performance parameters are also measured. The discrete controller is implemented, and design goal is achieved and the same is verified against theoretical calculation using LabVIEW.
