  • This study presents a prediction methodology of transport properties using the methane-based TRAPP (m-TRAPP) method in a wide range of temperature and pressure conditions including both subcritical and supercritical regions, in order to obtain thermo-physical properties for hydrocarbon aviation fuels and their products resulting from endothermic reactions. The viscosity and thermal conductivity are predicted in the temperature range from 300 to 1000 K and the pressure from 0.1 to 5.0 MPa, which includes all of the liquid, gas, and the supercitical regions of representative hydrocarbon fuels. The predicted values are compared with those data obtained from the NIST database. It was demonstrated that the m-TRAPP method can give reasonable predictions of both viscosity and thermal conductivity in the wide range of temperature and pressure conditions studied in this paper. However, there still exists large discrepancy between the current data and established values by NIST, especially for the liquid phase. Compared to the thermal conductivity predictions, the calculated viscosities are in better agreement with the NIST database. In order to consider a wide range of conditions, it is suggested to select an appropriate method through further comparison with another improved prediction methodologies of transport properties.

  • For electrical vehicles, switched reluctance drives present a promising alternative-compared to asynchronous and synchronous (permanent magnet) concepts. For these applications, a very wide field weakening range is a key issue. Other requirements include high torque output from a small machine and low current ripple at the DC-side without the use of bulky filters - when powered from fuel cells or advanced Lithium-Ion-batteries. A new converter and control strategy according to these requirements is presented and compared to existing designs. The comparison is done for a drive system with a continuous power rating of 30 to 40 kW.

  • A novel soft-switching two-switch flyback converter is proposed in this paper. This converter is composed of two active power switches, a flyback transformer, a blocking diode, and two passive regenerative clamping circuits. The proposed converter has the advantages of a low cost circuit configuration, a simple control scheme, a high efficiency, and a wide operating range. The circuit topology, analysis, design considerations, and experimental results of the new flyback converter are presented.

  • The topology of active clamp forward converter provides ZVS characteristic and also the stress of voltage and current is smaller than that of the conventional forward converters. The benefits of this technique include a higher efficiency at a high switching frequency, lower EMI/RFI. In this paper, the active clamp forward converter is designed for operation in wide range voltage and has 19.5V/120W ratings with efficiency more than 90%.

  • In this paper, a neural network estimator which estimates the output of the wide range oxygen sensor is proposed, The neural network estimator is constructed to give the output of the wide range oxygen sensor from rpm, fuel injection time, throttle position, and output voltage of the exhaust gas oxygen sensor. And, using this estimator, PI controller for air-fuel ratio control is designed. Experiment results show that the proposed method gives good results for SONATA engine under light load and constant rpms.

  • In this paper, we introduce and analyze a feedback control model of TCP/AQM dynamics. Then, we propose the Pro-active Queue Management (PAQM) mechanism, which can provide proactive congestion avoidance and control using an adaptive congestion indicator and a control function for wide range of traffic environments. The PAQM stabilizes the queue length around a desired level while giving smooth and low packet loss rates independent of the traffic load level under a wide range of traffic environment. The PAQM outperforms other AQM algorithms such as Random Early Detection (RED) [1] and PI-controller [2]

  • We have investigated the characteristics of planar optical waveguides formed by silver ion-exchange. Experimental values of the effective indices of guided modes were obtained by measuring the synchronous angles of strongest coupling. Definition of an effective diffusion constant leads to the mode-dispersion curves applicable over a wide range of fabrication conditions. In order to compare experimental and theoretical results, We have plotted each mode index of a wide range of fabrication conditions.

  • A new analog synchronous mirror delay to be used in the wide-bandwidth clocking circuits is proposed to overcome the frequency dependency of the negative-delay values in the conventional analog synchronous mirror delay. The scheme adopts a new dummy-delay compensation technique by adopting the comparator with inherent systematic offset to achieve the enhanced negative-delay range especially prominent at high frequency applications.

  • This paper presents muscle-inspired serial digital actuators, achieving the improvement of the range-to-precision and range-to-voltage performance. We propose a weight-balanced design for the serial actuators with serpentine springs using serial arrangement of digital actuators. We have measured the displacement range, precision, and drive voltage at unit and serial actuation of 1Hz. The serial digital actuators produce a full range displacement of $28.44{\pm}0.02{\mu}m$, accumulating the unit displacement of $2.8{\pm}0.5{\mu}m$ at the operating voltage of $4.47{\pm}0.07V$. In addition, the serial digital actuators having the displacement precision of $37.94{\pm}6.26nm$ do not accumulate the precision of the unit actuators, $36.0{\pm}17.7nm$. We experimentally verify that the serial digital actuators achieve the range-to-squared-voltage ratio of $1.423{\mu}m/V^2$ and the range-to-precision ratio of 749.6.
