The properties of fracture system in Precambrian Jangbong schist and Mesozoic granites from Seokmo-do, Ganghwa-gun were investigated and analyzed. Most of the fractures measured at outcrops are nearly vertical or steeply dipping. Orientations of fracture sets in terms of frequency order are as follows: Set $1:N2^{\circ}E/77^{\circ}SE$, Set $2:N17^{\circ}E/84^{\circ}NW$, Set $3:N26^{\circ}E/64^{\circ}SE$, Set $4:N86^{\circ}W/82^{\circ}SW$, Set $5:N80^{\circ}W/77^{\circ}NE$, Set $6:N60^{\circ}W/85^{\circ}SW$, Set $7:N73^{\circ}E/87^{\circ}NW$, Set $8:N82^{\circ}W/53^{\circ}NE$, Set $9:N23^{\circ}W/86^{\circ}SW$, Set 10: $N39^{\circ}W/61^{\circ}NE$. Especially, the rose diagram of fracture strikes(N:240) indicates that there are two dorminant directions of N-S~NNE and WNW. These distribution pattern of fractures from Seokmo-do correponds with those of major lineaments from South Korea suggested in previous study. Meanwhile, the scaling properties on the length distribution of fracture populations have been investigated. First, fracture sets from Precambrian Jangbong schist and Mesozoic granites(north and south rock body) has been classified into five groups(group I~V) based on strike and frequency. Then, the distribution chart generalized the individual length-cumulative frequency diagram for above five groups were made. From the related chart, five subpopulations(group I~V) that closely follow a power-law length distribution show a wide range in exponents(-0.79~-1.53). These relative differences in exponent among five groups emphasizes the importance of orientation effect. From the related chart, the diagram of group III occupies an upper region among five groups. Finally, the distribution chart showing the chracteristics of the length frequency distribution for each rock body were made. From the related chart, the diagram of each rock body shows an order of porphyritic biotite granite < hornblende granodiorite < medium-grained biotite granite(south rock body) < medium-grained biotite granite(north rock body) < Precambrian Jangbong schist. From the related chart, the diagram of more older rock body in the formation age tends to occupy an upper region. Especially, the diagram of Precambrian Jangbong schist occupies an upper region compared with the diagrams of Mesozoic granites. These distributional chracteristics suggests that coexistence of new fracture initiation and growing of existing fractures corresponding with stress field acted since the formation of rock body.
High capacitance X5R MLCCs based on $BaTiO_3$ ceramic dielectric layers exhibit a single broad, asymmetric arc shape impedance and modulus response over the wide frequency range between 1 MHz to 0.01 Hz. Analysis according to the conventional brick-layer model for polycrystalline conductors employing a series connection of multiple RC parallel circuits leads to parameters associated with large errors and of little physical significance. A new parametric impedance model is shown to satisfactorily describe the experimental spectra, which is a parallel network of one resistor R representing the DC conductivity thermally activated by 1.32 eV, one ideal capacitor C exactly representing bulk capacitance, and a constant phase element (CPE) Q with complex capacitance $A(i{\omega})^{{\alpha}-1}$ with ${\alpha}$ close to 2/3 and A thermally activated by 0.45 eV or ca. 1/3 of activation energy of DC conductivity. The feature strongly indicate the CK1 model by J. R. Macdonald, where the CPE with 2/3 power-law exponent represents the polarization effects originating from mobile charge carriers. The CPE term is suggested to be directly related to the trapping of the electronic charge carriers and indirectly related to the ionic defects responsible for the insulation resistance degradation.

Growth of oil and chemical industries has been remarkable during recent years. Hazardous materials (Hazmat) make frequent use in the wide range of industries. It increases the frequency of Hazmat transport and it leads to increase the number of accidents. Optimal Hazmat routes can reduce damage. Thus, the objective of this study is to minimize the areas impacted by Hazmat accidents by adopting experts' opinion in planning the route. We calculated weights using AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and deduced the best route by applying this weights. Results showed that in the case of shortest route versus weighted route, the percentage of population damage has been decreased by 33.4% in the comparison between shortest route and optimally weighted route. And the percentage of environmental damage also has been decreased by 21.8%. Social damage has been decreased by 1521.7%. In the case of none weighted route versus weighted route, the percentage of population damage has been decreased by 2.6% when we adopted weighted route. Consequently, the recommended route with weighted risk assessment avoids densely populated area comparing with none weighted route. Further research needs to be carried out in order to figure out the specific cost-effectiveness analysis applying the equal cost unit for each factor.

Commercially pure titanium (CP Ti) and Ti-6Al-4V alloys have been widely used for biomedical applications. However, the use of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy in biomaterial is then a subject of controversy because aluminum ions and vanadium oxide have potential detrimental influence on the human body due to vanadium and aluminum. Hence, recent works showed that the synthesis of new Ti-based alloys for implant application involves more biocompatible metallic alloying element, such as, Nb, Hf, Zr and Mo. In particular, Nb and Hf are one of the most effective Ti ${\beta}-stabilizer$ and reducing the elastic modulus. Plasma electrolyte oxidation (PEO) is known as excellent method in the biocompatibility of biomaterial due to quickly coating time and controlled coating condition. The anodized oxide layer and diameter modulation of Ti alloys can be obtained function of improvement of cell adhesion. Manganese(Mn) plays very important roles in essential for normal growth and metabolism of skeletal tissue in vertebrates and can be detected as minor constituents in teeth and bone. Radio frequency(RF) magnetron sputtering in the various PVD methods has high deposition rates, high-purity films, extremely high adhesion of films, and excellent uniform layers for depositing a wide range of materials, including metals, alloys and ceramics like a hydroxyapatite. The aim of this study is to research the Mn coatings on the micro-pore formed Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys by RF-magnetron sputtering for dental applications. Ti-29Nb-xHf (x= 0, 3, 7 and 15wt%, mass fraction) alloys were prepared Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys of containing Hf up from 0 wt% to 15 wt% were melted by using a vacuum furnace. Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys were homogenized for 2 hr at $1050^{\circ}C$. Each alloy was anodized in solution containing typically 0.15 M calcium acetate monohydrate + 0.02 M calcium glycerophosphate at room temperature. A direct current power source was used for the process of anodization. Anodized alloys was prepared using 270V~300V anodization voltage at room. Mn coatings was produced by RF-magnetron sputtering system. RF power of 100W was applied to the target for 1h at room temperature. The microstructure, phase and composition of Mn coated oxide surface of Ti-29Nb-xHf alloys were examined by FE-SEM, EDS, and XRD.

Salivary glands, major and minor, are susceptible to a wide variety of pathologic conditions. Excision of the submandibular gland is a surgical procedure often undertaken. The procedure is the treatment of choice for patients with neoplasm of the submandibular gland and those with non-neoplastic submandibular disorders which are not controlled with conservative medical measures. Extirpation of the submandibular gland may also be undertaken for diagnostic purposes. We evaluated 84 patients who had been admitted to the dept. of oral and maxillofacial surgery of Pusan National University Hospital from January, 1989 to December, 2002 and had been performed submandibular gland excision. The results are as follows : 1. The patients undertaken the excision of the submandibular gland showed an age range of 16 to 71 years. The average was 49.1. 2. They consisted of 60 males(71.4%) and 24 females(28.6%), having 2.5 : 1 of genda ratio. 3. The most common symptom was swelling in 41 cases(48.8%), followed by the pain in 23 cases(27.4%). Other symptoms included mass, dysphagia, facial abnormaly and neck dyscinesia. 4. 42 cases(50.0%) showed sialadenitis and sialodochitis associated with salivary calculus. 5. According to the histopathologic study, all cases consisted of 17 neoplasmatic conditions(20.3%) and 67 non-neoplasmatic(79.7%). The neoplasmatic cases included 13 benign tumors and 4 primary malignant tumors. Sialadenitis and sialodochitis associated with or without salivary calculus were most marked, found in 50 cases(59.3%), in the non-neoplasmatic conditions. Pleoomorphic adenoma showed the highest frequency of the benign tumor.

Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) have attracted the attention of scientists and engineers involved in a wide area of research, microscopy, diagnostics and sensing. SPPs are waves that propagate along the surface of a conductor, usually metals. These are essentially light waves that are trapped on the surface because of their interaction with the free electrons of conductor. In this interaction, the free electrons respond collectively by oscillating in resonance with the light wave. The resonant interaction between the surface charge oscillation and the electromagnetic field of the light constitutes the SPPs and gives rise to its unique properties. In this papers, we studied theoretical and experimental extraordinary transmittance (T) and reflectance (R) of 2 dimensional metal hole array (2D-MHA) on GaAs in consideration of the diffraction orders. The 2d-MHAs was fabricated using ultra-violet photolithography, electron-beam evaporation and standard lift-off process with pitches ranging from 1.8 to $3.2{\mu}m$ and diameter of half of pitch, and was deposited 5-nm thick layer of titanium (Ti) as an adhesion layer and 50-nm thick layer of gold (Au) on the semiinsulating GaAs substrate. We employed both the commercial software (CST Microwave Studio: Computer Simulation Technology GmbH, Darmstadt, Germany) based on a finite integration technique (FIT) and a rigorous coupled wave analysis (RCWA) to calculate transmittance and reflectance. The transmittance was measured at a normal incident, and the reflectance was measured at variable incident angle of range between $30^{\circ}{\sim}80^{\circ}$ with a Nicolet Fourier transmission infrared (FTIR) spectrometer with a KBr beam splitter and a MCT detector. For MHAs of pitch (P), the peaks ${\lambda}$ max in the normal incidence transmittance spectra can be indentified approximately from SP dispersion relation, that is frequency-dependent SP wave vector (ksp). Shown in Fig. 1 is the transmission of P=2.2 um sample at normal incidence. We attribute the observation to be a result of FTIR system may be able to collect the transmitted light with higher diffraction order than 0th order. This is confirmed by calculations: for the MHAs, diffraction efficiency in (0, 0) diffracted orders is lower than in the (${\pm}x$, ${\pm}y$) diffracted orders. To further investigate the result, we calculated the angular dependent transmission of P=2.2 um sample (Fig. 2). The incident angle varies from 30o to 70o with a 10o increment. We also found the splitting character on reflectance measurement. The splitting effect is considered a results of SPPs assisted diffraction process by oblique incidence.

This study examined the possibility of using dark-striped field mice as a biological indicator for the environmental radio-surveillance. For this study, dark-striped field mice were caught from five areas of Kyonggi, Kyongsang, Chungchong and Cholla provinces. The external morphological characteristics and isoenzymic types of dark-striped field mice were studied after they were captured. Among the external morphological characteristics, the dark-brown coat, dark back stripe, head-to-tail length, tail length, and ear length matched the taxonomical characteristics of dark-striped field mice. The analyses on L-lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate aminotransferase, and malate dehydrogenese revealed that one species of dark-striped field mice, called Apodemus agrarius, was inhabitated throughout a wide range of Korea. On the other hand, the frequency of micronuclei in peripheral polychromatic erythrocytes to survived mice after irradiation also analyzed. The LD50/30 of A. cgrarius and ICR mice were approximately 5 Gy and 7.9Gy, respectively. The results of the study reveal that wild A. asrarius have a high potential as a biological monitoring system to determine the impact of radiation in areas such as those within the vicinity of nuclear power plants.

In modern society, as technology has advanced and human life area has expanded, there has been an increasing demand for high-quality voice and video communications services without restrictions on time and place. In response to this demand, satellite communications systems that provide a wide range of communications and that offer multiple access are evolving day by day. In satellite communications systems such as Digital Video Broadcasting - Return Channel Via Satellite (DVB-RCS) and Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T), the multi-frequency time division multiple access (MF-TDMA) demand assigned multiple access (DAMA) scheme is used for efficient resource allocation. In this scheme, since the satellite terminals periodically request resources from the network controller, and the network controller dynamically allocates resources, it is necessary to arrange resource allocation information from time to time. Shortening of the alignment time is a more important factor in a satellite communications system in which a long transmission delay occurs due to long-distance transmission and reception. In this paper, we propose a sorting algorithm variable-selection scheme that shortens the sorting time by cross-selecting the sorting algorithm based on a threshold value, while setting the number of frames in the MF-TDMA DAMA satellite communications system as the threshold value.

Recent rapid urban expansion and crowding of various industrial facilities has affected the features of a significant part of downtown area, resulting in areas having buildings with a wide range of height and the foothills. To compute a velocity pressure exposure coefficient, namely the design wind speed factor, this study defines ground surface roughness by utilizing concentration analysis for the height of each building. After obtaining spatial data by extracting a building layer from digital maps, the study area was partitioned for the concentration analysis and to allow investigation of the frequency distribution of building heights. Concentration analysis by building height was determined with the Variation-to-Means Ratio (VMR) and Poisson distribution analysis using a buildings distribution chart, with statistical significance determined using Chi-square verification. Applying geographic information systems (GIS) with the architectural information made it possible to estimate a velocity pressure exposure coefficient factor more quantitatively and objectively, by including geographic features, as compared to current methods. Thus, this method is expected to eliminate inaccuracies that arise when building designers calculate the velocity pressure exposure coefficient in subjective way, and to help increase the wind resistance of buildings in a more logical and cost-effective way.

A wideband bow-tie antenna fed by wideband microstrip-coplanar stripline(CPS) balun and band notch structures that can be applied to bow-tie antenna are proposed in this paper. In order to increase bandwidth, bow-tie radiators are reshaped so that the surface current flows continuously, and wideband impedance matching is achieved by adjusting strip width and spacing of CPS feeding line. The VSWR is measured as 2:1 over the wide frequency range of 2.3~12 GHz. The fabricated antenna size is $60mm{\times}60mm$. In order to achieve the band-notch function at WLAN(5.8 GHz), ${\lambda}/4$ folded-slits located ${\lambda}/4$ away from feeding point are utilized. To minimize the slit size, folded-slit type is adopted. The measured VSWR is 7:1 and gain attenuation is 14 dB at 5.8 GHz.
