A new design technique is presented to stabilize cut slopes in cohesive soils by use of piles. The design method can consider systematically factors such as the gradient and height of slope, the number and position of pile's rows, the interval and stiffness of piles, etc. The design method is established on the basis of the stability analysis of slope with rows of piles. The basic concept applied in the stability analysis is that the soil across the open space between piles can be retained by the arching action of the soil, when a row of piles is installed in soil undergoing lateral movement such as landslides. To obtain the whole stability of slope containing piles, two kinds of analyses for the pile-stability and the slope- stability must be performed simultaneously. An instrumentation system has been installed at a cut slope in cohesive soil, which has been designed according to the presented design process. The behavior of both the piles and the soil across the open space between piles is observed precisely. The result of instrumentation shows that the cut slope has been stabilized by the contribution of stabilizing effect of piles on the slope stability in cohesive soil.
Either systematic sampling or stratified sampling is usually applied to the business conditions survey when companies don't have much difference in their size. But the cutoff systematic sampling is an efficient method when only a few companies are so large that the total of them almost equals to the total of whole companies. Throughout this paper, three estimators of total and their variance estimations depending on three kinds of sampling schemes are discussed, and are compared with them via their variances. It is proved that the cut-off systematic sampling is most efficient by using a real data of the logging business conditions survey.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of ultrasound with ascorbic acid on the quality of fresh-cut apples. Prepared apple cubes were dipped in distilled water (US) or in 1% ascorbic acid solution (AS), both were treated with ultrasound at 40 kHz, while the other sample was just dipped in 1% ascorbic acid solution for 1 min (AA). All samples were stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for 12 days. AS treatment had an effect on apple cube color as indicated by its significantly higher L values and lower ${\Delta}E$ value whereas AA- and US-treated samples showed a considerable browning. Higher inhibition rate on browning and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activity of 46 and 98%, respectively, were observed after AS treatment. The highest total phenolic content of AS-treated samples was shown during whole storage periods. This investigation revealed that the use of ultrasound in combination with ascorbic acid had a positive effect on quality maintaining of fresh-cut apples.
Six young trees of Alnus tinctoria grown in isolation, each having different growing stage, were selected and the surface area of their roots, stems and leaves was determined. Each of the roots of more than 0.2mm in diameter and stems was cut at intervals of 10cm and their surface area was calculated with 2$\pi$rl from the average diameter (2r) of both sections (upper and lower) by making cylindrical estimation of the cut pieces. The leaf area measured was only one side area, and the volume of cut piece and amount of dry matter of each organ were also measured. The percentage to the surface area of the whole plant body by each organ was 4-12% in root, 7-9% in stem and 69-89% in leaf, respectively. There was relatively a little individual difference. However, the surface area ratios of root and stem showed a slightly increasing tendency while that of leaf decreasing according to the growing stage. The ratio of sum leaf area index (LAIi) was 2.3-4.0$m^2$/$m^2$-and that of the surface area index(SaIi) was 0.16-0.33$m^2$/$m^2$, respectively. It has been known that the stem surface area(SAI) to the leaf area index(LAI) is within the range of 31-53%, but the SAIi is within the range of 8-11% of the LAIi.

Transductive Support Vector Machine(TSVM) is one of semi-supervised learning algorithms which exploit the domain structure of the whole data by considering labeled and unlabeled data together. Although it was proposed several years ago, there has been no efficient algorithm which can handle problems with more than hundreds of training examples. In this paper, we propose an efficient branch-and-bound algorithm which can solve large-scale TSVM problems with thousands of training examples. The proposed algorithm uses two bounding techniques: min-cut bound and reduced SVM bound. The min-cut bound is derived from a capacitated graph whose cuts represent a lower bound to the optimal objective function value of the dual problem. The reduced SVM bound is obtained by constructing the SVM problem with only labeled data. Experimental results show that the accuracy rate of TSVM can be significantly improved by learning from the optimal solution of TSVM, rather than an approximated solution.

Effect of pretreatment processing (peeling time, drying temperature, sample type) on the quality of hot air drying peony roots was investigated. Peony roots were peeled for 0, 10, 20, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minute in the peeling machine after water washing. Sample types were whole or cut (thickness of 3mm). Temperatures of hot air drying were 30, 40, 50 and $60^{\circ}C$ The level of water contents in dried sample was $14{\sim}15%$. Drying time was muth reduced as the peeling time, cutting sample types and higher temperature. Contents of paeoniflorin were maintained highest amount (3.48%) in the non-peeling cut sample dried at $30^{\circ}C$ and lowest amount (2.29%) in the 120min-peeling whole one dried at $60^{\circ}C$. Skin color of dried peony roots was heavily discolored in the sample of non-peeling whole type dried at $60^{\circ}C$ and the color was dark brown $({\Delta}E\;was\;46.1)$. When considering shortening of drying time, preservation of active compounds and maintenance of color, the best pretreatment method of drying in peony roots was non-peeling, cut type processing.
Calculating the scrutable core damage frequency (CDF) of nuclear power plants is an important component of the seismic probabilistic safety assessment (SPSA). In this work, a simple approach is developed to calculate CDF from minimal cut sets (MCSs) with non-rare events. When conventional calculation methods based on rare event approximations are employed, the CDF of industry SPSA models is significantly overestimated by non-rare events in the MCSs. Recently, quantification algorithms using binary decision diagrams (BDDs) have been introduced to prevent CDF overestimation in the SPSA. However, BDD structures are generated from a small part of whole MCSs due to limited computational memory, and they cannot be reviewed due to their complicated logic structure. This study suggests a simple approach for scrutinizing the CDF calculation based on whole MCSs in the SPSA system analysis model. The proposed approach compares the new results to outputs from existing algorithms, which helps in avoiding CDF overestimation.
Modules of hemodiafilter were manufactured by using MC-Hp200 and RC-HP4DOA hoi low fiber membranes of Enka Co. in a unique design. The performances of she hemodiafillers were evaluated by measuring the molecular weight cut-off, ultrafiltration rate, clearance, and pressure drop across the hemodiafiter. As a whole, the performances of the RC-HP400A module were superior to those of the MC-Hp200 module. The modules prepared in thls study showed the satisfactory performances for hemodiafiltration.
Database of Cut-slope management system (CSMS) has been constructed based on investigations of all slopes on the roads of the whole country. The investigation data is documented by human, so it is inevitable to avoid human-error such as missing-data and incorrect entering data into computer. The goal of this paper is constructing a prediction model based on several machine-learning algorithms to solve those imperfection problems of the CSMS data. First of all, the character-type data in CSMS data must be transformed to numeric data. After then, two algorithms, i.g., multinomial logistic regression and deep-neural-network (DNN), are performed, and those prediction models from two algorithms are compared. Finally, it is identified that the accuracy of DNN-model is better than logistic model, and the DNN-model will be utilized to improve data-quality.

We propose a method to connect partial image in whole image to partial image in whole image of other internet site. For this study, we have developed four partial image generation methods and retrieval methods. A method of 'image segmentation' that cuts out only partial images that want to provide information from the whole image, a method of 'creating an image block' that finds outermost points of a cut-out partial image, a method of 'Stamp transformation of outer points', which connects outer points and registers them as the most similar image stamp, and a retrieval method that connects image stamps with other image stamps are developed. We suggested a image search UI that can use image stamps in various ways.
