Development of the Wheel Disc Spinning Machine (휠 디스크 스피닝 성형기 개발)

  • The spinning machine has been developed for a bus and truck wheel disc which is manufactured by spinning process method. This machine has the mechanical structure with bed, 2-column, cross head, 2-vertical slide, 2-horizontal slide with forming roller, clamp slide and main spindle similar to large size vertical lathe. Main spindle attached the mandrel is rotated about 500rpm drived by 280kW power DC motor, and a rotating black material pressed on the mandrel with the clamp slide is spinformed by 2-forming rollers which are attached inner end of the 2-horizontal slides. The 2-vertical and 2-horizontal slides are actuated by the hydraulic cylinder which is controlled by the servo valve individially, and these servo valves are controlled by control signal of the CNC controller which is computed with position signal feedbacked from the encoder sensor. The developed machine can manufacture wheel disc of various section profile without mandrel change because section profile is easily modified using program editing in the CNC controller processor. The wheel disc manufactured by spinning process method has many advantages that the endurance is increased by 2 times and the weight is decreased by 30% compared with a conventional disc.

Strength and Dynamic Performance Analysis for Tilting Train Wheel (틸팅차량용 차륜의 구조 강도 및 동적 성능 해석)

  • For the improvement of a conventional railway speed, tilting train(Tilting Train express) is under the development aiming for a maximum speed 180km/h. Compared to the existing conventional rolling-stock, tilting train could take an advantage of speed improvement about $20{\sim}30%$ on curve sections due to the improvement of cowing performance. However, this speed increasement creates a severe load at wheels, thus it is necessary to study the safety of wheel for tilting train preferentially. On the other hand, it is under consideration that the wheel for conventional railway rolling-stock at speeds of 150km/h will be applied to tilting train at speeds of 180km/h. In this paper, we have studied the strength of wheel structure, the geometrical contact characteristics, and the dynamic performance of wheel to evaluate the safety of wheel for tilting train.

A study on the prediction of wheel wear of railway rolling stock (철도차량 차륜마멸예측에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes an analytical method for wheel wear prediction. The outputs from vehicle dynamic software are used to calculation the wheel wear. Two calculation examples are shown for a high-speed line and a conventional line. Through the comparison of two cases, we can see the wheel wear characteristics on the conventional line and the high-speed line. The conventional line has many curved tracks that cause severe wheel flange wear. The influences of curve radius on wheel wear are also described considering the operational performance of the high speed trainset. A method of calculation using contact patch work model is presented for determination of the evolution by wear railway wheels.

Active Suspension System for a One-wheel Car Model Using Single Input Rule Modules Fuzzy Reasoning

  • This paper presents the construction of an active suspension system of a one-wheel car model by using fuzzy reasoning. The car model is approximately described by a nonlinear two degrees freedom system subject to excitation from a road profile, and the active control force is constructed by actuating a pneumatic actuator, and the degradation of the performance due to the delay of the pneumatic actuator is improved by inserting a compensator. The fuzzy control is obtained by single input rule modules fuzzy reasoning, and the excitation from the road profile is estimated by using a disturbance observer. The experimental result shows that the proposed active suspension system much improves the performance in the vibration suppression of the car model.

  • This paper is concerned with the construction of an improved sliding mode control for the active suspension system of a one-wheel car model subject to the excitation from a road profile. The active control is composed of the equivalent and the switching controls where an improved sliding surface is proposed. The active control force is generated by operating a pneumatic actuator due to the control signal that constructed by measuring the state variables of the car model and by estimating the excitation from the road profile using the VSS observer. The experimental result indicates that the proposed active suspension system is relatively effective in the vibration suppression of the car model.

  • In this paper, the reduction effect of dry (solid) lubrication on wheel flange wear rates is studied. The solid / dry lubricator systems were attached to the most front and furthest back axles of a coach in order to examine the wear behavior of the equipped wheels. An attempt is also made to make a comparison between wear behaviors of these wheel flanges having dry lubrication devices with non-lubricated wheels in other railcars. Finally, a comparison is made between life-cycle of wheels under investigation and other similar wheel types.

  • This is a testing equipment system to analyze variation of creep force according to wheel-rail tread profile, running speed of vehicle, vertical and lateral force, wheel/rail contact point, attack angle and so on. The creep force affect vehicle derailment, especially climbing derailment. This system is composed of main frame, wheelset and rail disks driver, hydraulic actuator, controller, environmental chamber, safety system and so on.

  • When vehicle travelling along the track which has irregularity such as vortical profile, dynamic forces arise at the Wheel/Rail contact patch by wheel/rail interaction. In particular short wavelength irregularities on dipped joint and small stiffness of connecting rail bring about intense wheel/rail dynamic effects at higher speed.   • As the ultra precision grinding can be applied to wafering process by the refinement of the abrasive. the development of high stiffness equipment and grinding skill, the conventional wafering process which consists of lapping, etching, 1st, 2nd and 3rd polishing could be exchanged to the new process which consists of precision surface grinding, final polishing and post cleaning. Especially, the ultra precision grinding of wafer improves the flatness of wafer and the efficiency of production. Futhermore, it has been not only used in bare wafer grinding, but also applied to wafer back grinding and SOI wafer grinding. This paper focused on the flatness of the ground wafer. Generally, the ground wafer has concave profile because of the difference of wheel path density, grinding temperature and elastic deformation of the equiptment. Tilting mathod is applied to avoid such non-uniform material removes. So, in this paper, the geometric analysis on grinding process is carried out, and then, we can predict the profile of th ground wafer by using profile simulation.
