밀싹의 재배 정도별 항산화 활성과 이를 첨가한 설기떡의 품질특성 (Antioxidant Activities of Wheat Sprouts by Cultivation Degree and Quality Characteristics of Sulgidduk added Wheat Sprouts)

  • During the cultivation of wheat sprouts, antioxidant activity was measured during each cultivation period. Wheat sprouts from the cultivation period showing the highest antioxidant activity were added at different concentrations to make wheat sprout sulgidduk. Their physicochemical properties then were measured. As a result, when wheat sprouts were cultivated to about 14 cm, contents of ascorbic acid and polyphenol compounds were the highest. Their ABTS radical scavenging activities also showed high values. Thus, wheat sprouts grown about 14 cm were added at a concentration of 0 to 7% to prepare wheat sprout sulgidduk. The lightness (L) of the control was the highest. Redness (a) and yellowness (b) of wheat sprout sulgidduk increased as the amount of wheat sprout added increased. Contents of ascorbic acid and polyphenol compounds and ABTS radical scavenging activities of wheat sprout sulgidduk added with the highest wheat sprout content were significantly higher than those of others. Regarding the texture, the addition of wheat sprout resulted in slightly higher hardness, gumminess, and chewiness than the control. However, springiness and cohesiveness were not significantly different between treatment groups.

새싹밀의 재배방법과 수확시기에 따른 항산화 성분 및 활성 평가 (Evaluation of the Antioxidant Activity of Wheat Sprouts Produced by Different Cultivation Methods and Harvest Times)

  • In this study, the antioxidant activity of methanol extracts of wheat sprouts grown in wild fields and cultivated fields and harvested at various times were analyzed to compare the quality characteristics of the wheat sprouts as a function of their cultivation and harvest time, as well as for the development of functional materials. The total polyphenolic and flavonoid content, as well as antioxidant activity of the wheat extracts, were subsequently analyzed. The ABTS radical scavenging activity of the wheat extract increased from 16.97 mg TEAC/g sample on cultivation day three in cultivated field wheat sprouts to 25.99 mg TEAC/g sample after seven days of wild field cultivation. The total polyphenol content increased from 17.08 mg GA eq/100 g in cultivated field wheat sprouts grown for three days to 28.70 mg GA eq/100 g after seven days of wild field cultivation. In addition, the flavonoid content increased from 7.02 mg catechin eq/100 g (7 days) to 8.47 mg/g after 12 days of wild field cultivation. Notably, the activity subsequently decreased. These results suggest that the wheat sprouts with higher biological activity were those produced from the wild field after 20 days.

  • Recently, interest in sprout crops using various varieties such as barley and oats has increased. However, in case of wheat, there were disadvantages in that the growth rate was slow and the economic efficiency and utilization were reduced. In order to overcome these disadvantages, this study was conducted on the selection of wheat varieties suitable for cultivation of wheat sprouts. Also, we analyzed the various functional ingredients of wheat sprouts.

신간척지토양에서 토양염농도, 퇴비 및 추비량 차이가 밀의 수량 및 수량구성요소에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Difference in Soil Salinity, Compost and Additional Fertilizer on the Grain Yield and Yield Components of Wheat in the Newly Reclaimed Tidal Lands in Korea)

  • Recently, upland crops cultivation instead of paddy crops are more popular and highlighted by increase of social demand in agricultural land use. Especially, wheat cultivation for replacing of import food grain are more interested by government, and it is urgently needed that possibility of wheat cultivation is evaluated in the reclaimed tidal land. Crop cultivation is closely related with soil salinity and cultivation method in the reclaimed tidal land. In order to evaluate possibility of wheat cultivation, effect of different application level of compost and nitrogen additional fertilizer, also soil salinity on the grain yield and yield components of three wheat cultivars was studied at the newly reclaimed Saemangeum and Hwanong tidal lands in Korea. $270-300kg\;10a^{-1}$ of grain yield were obtained at the experimental site in the Saemangeum reclaimed tidal land where soil salinity was less than $4dS\;m^{-1}$ during growing periods from December, 2009 to June, 2010. However, almost no grain yield was obtained at the experimental site in the Hwaong reclaimed tidal land, where soil salinity was more than average $8dS\;m^{-1}$ ranged from 2.0 to $25.9dS\;m^{-1}$ during growing period and then salt demage was severe. Yield was significantly different among application level of compost and nitrogen additional fertilizer in the newly reclaimed Saemangeum tidal land. However, it is considered that three cultivars such as Chopum, Chogyung and Geumgang, have similar sensibility to soil salinity and fertilizer level, because there is statistically no difference among ciltivars in Hwaong and Saemangeum, and also among cultivars in the different levels of compost and fertilizer. Finally, it is concluded that wheat can be possibly produced by reasonable fertilizer application in the Saemangeum reclaimed tidal land, but wheat cultivation is impossible because of high soil salinity in the Hwaong reclaimed tidal land.

과정기반 작물모형을 이용한 웹 기반 밀 재배관리 의사결정 지원시스템 설계 및 구축 (Design and Development of Web-Based Decision Support Systems for Wheat Management Practices Using Process-Based Crop Model)

  • This study aimed to design and build a web-based decision support system for wheat cultivation management. The system is designed to collect and measure the weather environment at the growth stage on a daily basis and predict the soil moisture content. Based on this, APSIM, one of the process-based crop models, was used to predict the potential yield of wheat cultivation in real time by making decisions at each stage. The decision-making system for wheat crop management was designed to provide information through a web-based dashboard in consideration of user convenience and to comprehensively evaluate wheat yield potential according to past, present, and future weather conditions. Based on the APSIM model, the system estimates the current yield using past and present weather data and predicts future weather using the past 40 years of weather data to estimate the potential yield at harvest. This system is expected to be developed into a decision support system for farmers to prescribe irrigation and fertilizer in order to increase domestic wheat production and quality by enhancing the yield estimation model by adding influence factors that can contribute to improving wheat yield.

Comparative Pathogenicity and Host Ranges of Magnaporthe oryzae and Related Species

  • Host shifting and host expansion of fungal plant pathogens increases the rate of emergence of new pathogens and the incidence of disease in various crops, which threaten global food security. Magnaporthe species cause serious disease in rice, namely rice blast disease, as well as in many alternative hosts, including wheat, barley, and millet. A severe outbreak of wheat blast due to Magnaporthe oryzae occurred recently in Bangladesh, after the fungus was introduced from South America, causing great loss of yield. This outbreak of wheat blast is of growing concern, because it might spread to adjacent wheat-producing areas. Therefore, it is important to understand the host range and population structure of M. oryzae and related species for determining the evolutionary relationships among Magnaporthe species and for managing blast disease in the field. Here, we collected isolates of M. oryzae and related species from various Poaceae species, including crops and weeds surrounding rice fields, in Korea and determined their phylogenetic relationships and host species specificity. Internal transcribed spacer-mediated phylogenetic analysis revealed that M. oryzae and related species are classified into four groups primarily including isolates from rice, crabgrass, millet and tall fescue. Based on pathogenicity assays, M. oryzae and related species can infect different Poaceae hosts and move among hosts, suggesting the potential for host shifting and host expansion in nature. These results provide important information on the diversification of M. oryzae and related species with a broad range of Poaceae as hosts in crop fields.

꽃송이버섯(Sparassis latifolia) 생육배지 조성에 따른 재배특성 및 수량 (Cultivation characteristics and yield of Sparassis latifolia depend on the substrate mixture)

  • 전라북도농업기술원이 육성한 꽃송이버섯 '너울'의 표준 생육배지 구명을 위해 톱밥과 첨가물의 종류, 배합비를 달리하여 재배특성과 수량을 조사하였다. 톱밥 종류에서는 낙엽송 처리가 재배일수 97일로 가장 짧았으며 수량 역시 143.6 g으로 우수함에 따라 꽃송이버섯 재배에 적합한 수종으로 판단된다. 첨가물 선발시험에서는 수량이 밀기울 처리에서 116.6 g으로 가장 많았고, 수율 역시 밀기울 처리에서 53.1%로 가장 높음에 따라 꽃송이버섯 생산에 적합한 첨가물로 밀기울이 적합하다고 판단된다. 낙엽송 톱밥:비트펄프:밀기울을 이용한 배합비 조성에 따른 시험 결과, 수량은 80:15:5와 85:10:5 처리에서 각각 114.4 g, 111.4 g이었고, 수율은 85:10:5 처리에서 52.5%, 80:15:5 처리에서 51.8%였으나 수량과 수율에서 두 처리간의 통계상 유의성이 없었다. 따라서 꽃송이버섯 생산에 적합한 표준 생육배지로는 낙엽송 톱밥:비트펄프:밀기울을 이용한 80:15:5 또는 85:10:5 배합비가 유리한 것으로 판단되며, 이를 통해 꽃송이버섯 재배에 적합한 C/N율은 184~223 수준임을 추측할 수 있었다. 또한, 배지의 C/N율이 105 이하일 때는 발이가 어려움에 따라 꽃송이버섯 재배에 있어서 배지 pH 외에 배지의 C/N율 역시 발이에 중요한 요인이라는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Strengthening Food Security through Food Quality Improvement - Focus on Grain Quality and Self-Sufficiency Rate

  • The concern about food security is rising as the unstable situation of food supply and demand due to the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, and turbulent political situation. Korea's global food security index (GFSI), analyzed by the Economist Group, is considered good, but the level continuously decreases in comparing food security levels by country. In particular, Korea is highly dependent on food imports, and food and grain self-sufficiency rates continuously decrease. Therefore, increasing those rates to strengthen food security is urgent. Among the major grains, the self-sufficiency of wheat, com, and soybeans, except rice, is relatively low. Unlike the decrease in the annual rice consumption, the annual wheat consumption has been continuously maintained or increased, which is required public-private efforts to increase the self-sufficiency rate of wheat. Applying the government's policies implemented to increase the self-sufficiency rate of rice in the past will help increase the self-sufficiency rate of wheat. In other words, expanding wheat production and infrastructure, stabilizing supply and demand, and establishing a distribution system can be applied. However, the processing capability of wheat and rice is different, which is necessary to improve wheat quality and processing technology to produce consumer-preferred wheat-based products. The wheat and flour quality can be improved through breeding, cultivation, post-harvest management, and milling. In addition, research on formulation, processes, packaging, and storage to improve the quality of wheat-based products should be done continuously. Overall, food security could be strengthened by expanding wheat production and consumption, improving wheat quality, and increasing wheat self-sufficiency.

녹비작물 재배에 따른 인삼의 생육과 진세노사이드 함량 (Growth Characteristics and Ginsenoside contents of Korean Ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) by Green Manure Crops)

  • 본 연구는 안정적 인삼재배를 위하여 여러 가지 녹비작물을 이용하여 인삼 예정지를 관리한 후 인삼생육과 진세노사이드 함량 등을 조사한 결과 다음과 같다. 인삼예정지 토양에 녹비작물을 재배하면 미생물상이 다양해지고, 유기물 함량과 Total-N 함량은 증가되며, 염류가 감소되는 경향을 보였다. 녹비의 생산량은 호밀이 가장 많았고, 녹비작물을 재배한 후 2년생 인삼의 지상부와 지하부의 생육은 유의적으로 증가하였으며 특히 호밀재배구가 가장 좋았다. 또한 인삼의 지상부 황증과 지하부의 적변 발생량은 호밀재배구가 가장 적었으며 진세노사이드 함량은 가장 높았다. 따라서 인삼재배지의 토양관리는 호밀을 재배하여 예정지를 관리하는 것이 좋을 것으로 판단된다.

Production of Cellulase by Trichoderma reesei Rut C30 in Wheat Bran-containing Media

  • The effect of the addition of wheat bran to the growth medium on the production of cellulolytic enzymes of Trichoderma reesei Rut C30 was studied in batch culture using shake flasks. The activity of cellulase was enhanced by the addition of wheat bran to the cellulase production medium. $KH_2PO_4$-$K_2HPO_4$ buffer was used for pH control during cellulase production. As a result, high cellulase activities were obtained in shake flask culture; a CMC (carboxymethyl cellulose) activity of 125.78 U/ml was obtained from 2% Avicel- and 3% wheat bran-containing medium and an FP (filter paper) activity of 12.85U/ml was obtained from 1% Avicel- and 5% wheat bran-containing medium after 6 days of cultivation.
