  • The purpose of this study was to examine the dyeing properties of four kinds of composite yams that were twisted in different processes. The composite yarns consist of acetate and functional polyester in ratio of 70 : 30. The composite yams were dyed at 100$^{circ}C$ and 125$^{circ}C$ using three types of dyes, disperse dyes for acetate fiber, PET fiber and PET-acetate blended fiber, in the three primary colors. The exhaustion($\%$) and K/S value were observed for each case. Also the effects of four different twisting processes to dyeing properties and physical properties were examined. Regardless of twisting methods, the composite yarns that were dyed at 125$^{circ}C$ had higher exhaustion($\%$) than those were dyed at 100$^{circ}C$ with all three types of dyes; However, tendency of the K/S value after reduction cleaning process was measured at 100$^{circ}C$ and the value measured 125$^{circ}C$ had a great difference with disperse dyes for acetate and dyes for PET. The difference of the K/S values of composite yarns, when dyed at 100$^{circ}C$ and 125$^{circ}C$ with disperse dyes for PET-acetate blended fiber, was almost negligible. According to twisting methods K/S values were in the following order: AP1 > AP3 > AP4> AP2. This means that AP1, treated at 220$^{circ}C$, had the highest K/S value and K/S value becomes higher as the yam is higher twisted and becomes lower as lower twisted. On the other hand, the dry shrinkage and wet shrinkage showed low shrinkage rate when the twist was high and steam setting temperature was high.

  • The exports of plywood are increasing annually and it has ranked first in the world market because of the high quality product and manufactured using mordern techniques. However, it is known that the exports of the other wood products, except plywood, is inactive because of their low quality. Accordingly, to increase the exports of various wood products investigations were carried out on kiln drying techniques to improve the quality of the wood. Wet wood should be kiln dried before use to prevent various drying defects such as distortion, shrinkage etc., which would develop after processing,:and also wet wood is not suitable for cutting, gluing and finishing. Therefore, the kiln drying properties of lumber from such species as oak, ramin and meranti which are used in large quantity for manufacturing exporting wood products have been studied. The results of the research are summarized as follows. (1) The end checks and the time for drying from initial moisture content of about 40 percent to 5 percent moisture content in ovendry were investigated as follows: (2) The kiln dried results, for 30mm stock, which are presented by using kiln schedule table 3 are as follows: (3) The kiln schedules for ramin, meranti and oak are given respectively as follows: Ramin kiln schedule: Table 17 and Table 18. Meranti schedule : Table 12. Oak schedule : Table 15.

  • In this study we report a rapid synthesis of nanoporous organo-functional silica (OFS) with unimodal and bimodal pore structures encompassing pores ranging from meso-to macroscale. The problems of tediousness and high production cost in the conventional syntheses are overcome by co-condensation of an inexpensive inorganic precursor, sodium silicate with an organosilane containing trimethyl groups. The insitu covalent anchoring of the non-polar trimethyl groups to the inner pore walls prohibits irreversible shrinkage of the wet-gel during microwave drying at ambient pressure and thus larger size pores (from ca. 20 to ca. 100 nm) can be retained in the dried silica. The drying process of the silylated wet-gels at an ambient pressure can be greatly accelerated upon microwave exposure instead of drying in an oven or furnace. Using this approach, anoporous and superhydrophobic silicas showing a wide variation in texture and morphology can be readily synthesized in roughly two hours. The effects of various sol-gel parameters solely on the textural properties of the organo-functional silica (OFS) have been investigated and discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the change of dyeing ability by K/S values, when dyed in different twisting processes and by one bath system and two bath system, to find possible ways of minimizing the color difference between cotton and polyester in composite yarn. The two types of composite yarn, which had one setting process(CP1) and two setting processes(CP2) were dyed with reactive/disperse dyes in both one bath dyeing system and two bath system. The dyeing ability according to the two different twisting processes was measured, and the values of the CP1 were higher compare to the values of CP2 in both one and two bath dyeing systems. This is because CP1 applied only one setting could shrink dyeing process at 130$^{circ}C$. This shrinkage increased the number of twists in the unit length and increased the yarn density, and this is the reason that the K/S values were measured higher than those of CP2. In wet shrinkage test, in opposition to CP2 only had 0.76$\%$ of the shrinkage rate, CP1 had 3.00$\%$ of the shrinkage rate. Also, the dyeing ability according to the two different dyeing methods was measured, and the values of CP1 and CP2 were both higher when dyed in two bath system. On the other hand, the color differences between cotton and polyester in composite yarns, were smaller for CP2 than that for CP1 and were also smaller in two bath dyeing system than in one bath dyeing system. Therefore, the ways of minimizing color difference between cotton and polyester in composite yarn are to apply enough setting in order to minimize shrinkage in dyeing process and to choose two bath dyeing system.

  • PET POY(pre-oriented-yam) were treated by false twister to high bulky. False twister have many processing parameters velocity ratio(VR), belt cross angle$(\theta)$, 1st heater temp. and K(twisting tension/untwisting tension). we analyzed the effect of properties of textured polyester yam on processing condition. Initial modulus, thermal stress, No. of snarl is decreased by 1st heater. In VR=1.97, Dry and wet shrinkage is increased but is decreased by 1st heater in VR=1.564. K/S and cristallinity tend to increase by decreasing VR.

  • This study surveys the effects of POY physical properties and processing conditions of belt texturing machine to the textured yarns. The various textured yarns are made with the variations of 1st heater temperature, draw ratio, velocity ratio, and the physical properties of these specimens such as yam linear density, tenacity, breaking strain, and wet and dry thermal shrinkages are measured and analysed with the various processing conditions of texturing machine. Especially, the thermal characteristics of the textured yarns, which are affected at the fabric hands and the determination of the processing conditions in the dyeing and finishing processes, are investigated through the thermal stress analyser and DSC experiments.

  • The purpose of this study was finding out the appropriate cleaning method for buried fabrics from old tombs focusing on the conservation of textiles. Cleaning effects and physical properties change depending on cleaning method have been analysed, The following results were obtained from this study : 1. Wet cleaning showed better effect on the cleaning of fabrics compared to solvent cleaning which meant more water-soluble soils existed than oily soils. 2. All the cleaning methods used did not cause any distorsion or shrinkage to the fabrics because fabrics had been stabilized for a long time 3. Addition of detergent to cleaning system decreased the friction of fiber during cleaning rocess so that the damage of fabrics could be minimized., 4. Ironing is an undesirable process because heat remarkably weakened fibers.

  • the effect of heat treatment in oxygen ambient on the nucleation and growth of oxidation induced stacking faults(OSF) in n-type(100)silicon wafer has been investigated. The growth of OSF is determind as a function of oxygen concentration in silicon wafer, heat treatment time and temperature, and the activation energy for the growth of OSF can be obtained from the growth kinetics. The activation energies are respectively 2.66 eV for dry oxidation and 2.37 eV for wet oxidation. In this paper, we have also studied the structural feature of OSF with the comparison of optical microscopic morphology and crystalline structure.

  • Objectives: This study assessed the effect of water storage on the flexural strength (FS) of low shrinkage composites. Materials and Methods: A total of 165 bar-shaped specimens ($2{\times}2{\times}25mm$) were fabricated of 2 low shrinkage composites (Filtek P90 [3M ESPE], GC Kalore [GC International]) and a conventional methacrylate-based composite (Filtek Z250 [3M ESPE]). The specimens were subjected to 3-point bending test at 6 time intervals, namely: immediately after curing, at 24 hours, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, and 1 year following storage in wet and dry conditions. The FS of the specimens were measured by applying compressive load at a crosshead speed of 1.0 mm/min. Data was analyzed using 3-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's test. Results: Three-way ANOVA revealed significant interactions between time, type of composite, and storage condition (p = 0.001). Tukey's multiple comparison test revealed significant reductions in FS of all composites after 6 months and 1 year of storage in distilled water compared to dry condition. Conclusions: Filtek P90 showed the highest and GC Kalore showed the lowest FS after 1 year storage in distilled water. The immediate high strength of Filtek Z250 significantly decreased at 1 year and its final value was lower than that of Filtek P90.
