  • This research focused on the development of concrete overlay and test, which was conducted at 88 Highway 105k, 2 lanes of 290 m. The field application test consists of 6 cm and 10 cm bonded concrete overlay and 25 cm unbonded concrete overlay, using the slag cement for opening lanes for traffic early. The overlay were placed in a day. The whole period of traffic closing wes 8 day and it was reopened to traffic after concrete overlay has cured for 3 day. 5 cracks were founded when the field test section was investigated after 1 month, but all these may not make significant problems to overlay because these initiated and growed at the same line of repair section. The rideability and skid resistance become much better like in the new pavement after overlay. The structural capacity against deflection was much. which were verified by FWD(Falling Weight Deflectometer). The field test section is being used in a good condition and the results of field application and pavement performance analysis are encouraging. This rehabilitation methods may be adopted in Korea after a more field performance verifications.

  • This paper discusses a new constitutive model called the high-rate brittle microplane (HRBM) model and also presents the details of a new software package called the Virtual Materials Laboratory (VML). The VML software package was developed to address the challenges of fitting complex material models such as the HRBM model to material property test data and to study the behavior of those models under a wide variety of stress- and strain-paths. VML employs Continuous Evolutionary Algorithms (CEA) in conjunction with gradient search methods to create automatic fitting algorithms to determine constitutive model parameters. The VML code is used to fit the new HRBM model to a well-characterized conventional strength concrete called WES5000. Finally, the ability of the new HRBM model to provide high-fidelity simulations of material property experiments is demonstrated by comparing HRBM simulations to laboratory material property data.

  • The fuels of water-in-oil emulsion have a potential of reducing PM(Particulate Matter) and NOx emissions, and increasing combustion efficiency in the furnaces and the burners. For making the most of the beneficial of the secondary atomization due to the microexplosion, the water droplets distributed in the oil must have the optimal sizes. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the water droplet size distribution characteristics of the different types of the static mixers. For analysis the size distribution characteristics efficiently, image analysis system wes constructed and an appropriate image processing algorithm was developed. Two kinds of static mixers: Kenics type and RF type, were tested. As a results, RF type static mixer shows a better characteristics in the mean drop size, particularly in the condition of high water content.

  • While industry understands the importance of keeping equipment operational and well maintained, the importance of tracking maintenance information in reliability models is often overlooked. Prognostic models can be used to predict the failure times of critical equipment, but more often than not, these models assume that all maintenance actions are the same or do not consider maintenance at all. This study investigates the influence of integrating maintenance information on prognostic model prediction accuracy. By incorporating maintenance information to develop maintenance-dependent prognostic models, prediction accuracy was improved by more than 40% compared with traditional maintenance-independent models. This study acts as a proof of concept, showing the importance of utilizing maintenance information in modern prognostics for industrial equipment.

  • Fantasy emerges from the cracks and crevices of rational reality. Italo Calvino says, "Fantasy is possible when the reader stays at a certain distance without falling into the text." Fantasy does not form farthest from reality. It comes from the confusion between reality and fiction. In short, fantasy does not exist on the contrary of reality, but on the boundary of reality. Reality and fantasy are also structurally intertwined. We can't distinguish the reality from fantasy clearly. In fact, in this case, the reader or audience is confused about whether what I see is real or not. Todorov calls this case "hesitation." Hesitation is a key element of fantasy. Two texts that expressed "hesitation" are Kim Young-ha's short novel Vampire (1997) and Wes Anderson's film The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). On the surface, these two texts seem to have nothing to do with narrative structural similarities. And both also arouse readers' and audiences' interest by letting confuse reality to fantasy. In Kim Young-ha's Vampire, we can look at the process of confusion of reality called "narrative infection" when a text is read to the reader. In the movie The Grand Budapest Hotel, we can find a strategy to make an unreal story feel like a fact in history. And we can also find a process in which the success stories of alienated characters become reality through 'solidarity' in the film. This paper is a study of how fantasy creates "reality", makes readers feel fantasy, and how it spreads through these two texts.

  • Purpose: The appropriate duration for effective hospice care is estimated about 3 months. However, the length of hospice care of many hospice patients is mostly less than 1 months. This is too short for effective hospice care. Therefore we investigated the reason by clinical considuations include the length of hospie care, duration from diagnosed as terminatlly ill to refer to hospice, the recogntion of hospice of doctors, patients and familis. Methods: This study was designed to retrospective cohot study. The data was obtaind from 50 hospice patients those who died in hospital from July to September in 2003. Results: Out of 50 patient, 30 were male(60%). The median age wes 60years in males and was 61 years in femailes. The most prevalant cancer was colorectal cancer(9 patients, 18%), followed by hepatoma(8 patients, 16%), and stomach cancer(7 patients, 14%). The most prevalent symptom was pain(37 patients 74%) and most prevalant reason of admission was also pain(30 patients, 60%). The most prevalent physician specialty was general internal medicine(21 doctors, 42%), followed by oncology(19 doctors, 38%). The median days form diagnosed terminally ill to refere to hospice was 47 days. The median lengths of hospice care was 23 days and the median admission days was 17. Conclusion: We found that lack of recognition of hospice of doctors, patients and families made the lengths of hospice care too short. If the patient and family go to hospice just after diagnosed as terminally ill, they could get more effective hospice care. To resolve these problems, it is needed education for them constantly.

  • Purpose - The recent establishment of many varieties of English language in the globe has created many models of English such as world Englishes (WEs), English as a Lingua Franca (ELF), English as a family of languages, and English as an Intercultural Language (EIcL). Among the models, the present study highlights 'English as an intercultural language (EIcL)' in relation to distribution science business English teaching to elucidate what EIcL is and why it is critical and how it can be realized in the business English classrooms. Research design, data, and methodology - This study look into the EIcL paradigm that empowers all active users to view English as universal and at the same time enables them to develop critical skills to bridge intercultural gaps or to cross borders. Results - Rather than just focusing on an acquisition of standardized English(es), EIcL serves as a major contextual factor facilitating success in getting competence among the different English languages. Conclusions - EIcL is a promising and ultimately rewarding approach to the contemporary business English teaching arena. EIcL should be achieved through policies, textbooks or living abroad, and, above all, learners/teachers' active awareness and understanding' of the EIcL mainstreams.
