In injection molding, many kinds of defects have occurred because of a characteristic of plastics injection molding. Weld line is one of the defects is formed when separated melt fronts recombine together during the mold filling stage. That is one of problems in injection molding. Weld lines in the appearance of plastics parts can deteriorate visible quality. And most importantly, the local mechanical strength in the weld line area can be significantly weaker. It could be one of the most problems for structural applications. In this study, the mold available two-shot-molding of same polymers have been designed, and a series of experiment about tensile strength in weld line area has been conducted using Taguchi's design of experiment to optimize injection molding conditions decreasing of weld strength and find out a factors affected weld strength in two-shot- molding.
In this study, the weld strength of extru-rivet spot welding was investigated by simulation and experiment. In order to obtain hot plasticity flow bonding of the two plates by a single rivet, electrodes are used for heating of the two plates and the rivet by electric resistance. Because weld strength is influenced by the temperature in the weld zone, the diameter of the electrodes and the amount of current supplied to the electrodes are important variables. For the simulation, heat distribution and weld strength were calculated using DEFORM-3D. The weld strength in the weld zone was calculated for various values of the experimental parameters. The simulation results showed that the weld strength was the highest when the weld current was 37kA, the electrode diameter was 12mm, and the welding frequency was 90cycle. Aluminum 5052 was used for the experimental study. A total of three aluminum plates, two welding plates with 1mm thickness and one plate with 2mm thickness for the inserting rivet, were used for the experimental extru-rivet spot welding.
Compared with Inconel 625 (ERNiCrMo-3) weld, Nb-free Alloy 59 (ERNiCrMo-13) weld with 15% Mo showed much higher resistance to hot cracking. Especially in the condition of current 350A and 30CPM of welding speed, no crack was detected at Inconel 625 fillet weld. Furthermore, it was found that the strength of Alloy 59 is sensitive to welding heat input. Up to around 14kJ/cm of heat input, Alloy 59 showed 678N/$mm^{2}$ of ultimate strength and 466N/$mm^{2}$ of yield strength. However, as heat input increased above 14kJ/cm, Alloy 59 weld could not satisfy the weld strength required for European LNG tank.
Weld line in injection molded part is one of the defect in injection molding process. Weld line deteriorates not only appearance quality but mechanical property. In this study weld line strength has been examined according to the injection operational conditions, materials and mold designs. PC and PP were used, and four different specimens were used in this experiment. Weld line strength decreased as injection temperature increases for PC. It was more dependent on mold temperature than injection temperature for PP Among the four different specimens, uneven thickness specimen showed the highest weld line strength.

This study reviews the factors controlling the weld metal cracking and shows the difference from those of HAZ cracking. It further reviews the recent progresses made in consumable design for improving the crack resistance in the high strength weld metal. Previously the controlling factors for weld metal cracking were regarded as weld metal strength, diffusible hydrogen and weld metal height. However an overall review presented in this article shows that the cold crack resistance can be improve significantly through the microstructural control and that an increase in tensile strength is not necessarily related to a decrease in the resistance to cold cracking.
Effect of post treatment on the fatigue strength of a box weldment was investigated in order to improve fatigue life of the weldment. The post treatment applied were the smooth grinding of weld bead, weld toe grinding and hammer peening at the weld toe. The fatigue strength of the weldment after post treatment clearly increased, compared with that of the weldment in as-welded condition. After smooth grinding of weld bead, fatigue crack initiated at the root of the weldment, while fatigue crack initiated at the weld toe for the other methods.
Weld bonding can be applied as a combined method of spot welding and adhesive to have more advantages than those. Weld bonding has many merits that enlarge the fatigue strength of spot Welding and also improve the creep of adhesive. But it has not beer proved well in the various environmental conditions. In this study, weld bonding test for fatigue properties and tensile strength is presented under such various coditions as temperatures, humidity, and etc.
Friction welding has been shown to have significant economic and technical advantages. However, one of the major concerns in using friction welding is the reliability of the weld quality. No reliable nondestructive test method is available at present for detecting weld quality, particularly in a production environment. Friction welds are formed by the mechanisms of diffusion as well as mechanical interlocking. The severe plastic flow at the interface by forge action of the process brings the subsurfaces so close together that detection of any unbonded area becomes very difficult. This paper presents an attempt to determine the friction weld strength quantitatively using the ultrasonic pulse-echo method. Instead of detecting flaws or cracks at the interface, the new approach calculates the coefficient of reflection based on measured amplitudes of the echoes. It has been finally confirmed that this coefficient could provide the quantitative relationship to the weld quality such as tensile strength, torsional strength, impact value, hardness, etc. So a new nondestructive analysis system of friction weld strength of dissimilar metals using an ultrasonic technique could be well developed.
The effects of the heat input and preheat/interpass temperatures on the tensile strength and impact toughness of multipass welded weld metal were investigated and interpreted in terms of the recovery of the alloying elements and microstructure. Increases in both the heat input and preheat/interpass temperatures decreased the tensile strength of the weld metal. A lower recovery of alloying elements, especially Mn and Si, and smaller area fraction of acicular ferrite in the weld metal were observed in higher heat input welding, resulting in a lower tensile strength. In contrast, only a microstructure difference was observed at a higher preheat/interpass temperature. The impact toughness of the weld metal gradually increased with an increase in the heat input because of the lower tensile strength. However, it decreased again when the heat input was larger than 45 kJ/cm because of the much smaller area fraction of acicular ferrite. No effect of the preheat/interpass temperature on the impact toughness was observed. The formation of a weld metal heat-affect zone showed little effect on the impact toughness of the weld metal in this experiment.
