Vector Map Simplification Using Poyline Curvature

  • Digital vector maps must be compressed effectively for transmission or storage in Web GIS (geographic information system) and mobile GIS applications. This paper presents a polyline compression method that consists of polyline feature-based hybrid simplification and second derivative-based data compression. Experimental results verify that our method has higher simplification and compression efficiency than conventional methods and produces good quality compressed maps.

  • Due to the fast development in information technology, mobile devices such as cellular phone and PDA are increasingly being used in information transmission. Also in GIS area, have many attempts been introduced for communicating geographic information. However, one of the problems found in current applications is that each of them is developed for a specific platform. A solution to this problem is sought using the XML, which is designed to transfer structured information through the Web regardless of any platform. GML is based on XML technology and is platform-free document for geographic feature. GML can be visualized using client plug-in's such as SVG. This study suggests a framework for developing a mobile-GIS web service using GML and shows how it can be implemented on a cellular phone emulator.

  • 최근 웹 기반 GIS는 자료의 공유가 폐쇄적인 로컬 GIS 시스템에서 벗어나 대용량의 자료를 손쉽게 인터넷을 통하여 서로 주고 받을 수 있어서 이용속도가 아주 빠르게 확산되고 있다. 그러나, 현재 웹 상에서 작동되는 GIS 시스템은 2차원 매핑(mapping)이나, 위치정보 안내서비스 위주의 시스템으로, 실제 업무에 적용하기 위한 자료의 전송 및 분석에 제약이 많다. 특히, 본 연구에서 대상으로 하는 지하시설물은 지하공간의 불가시성으로 인해 기존의 2차원적인 관리로는 효과적인 관리가 어렵기 때문에, 지하시설물을 3차원으로 시각화하고, 분석, 관리해주는 도구가 절실히 필요한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 현재까지의 인터넷 GIS기술과 지하시설물의 관리에 대한 현황 및 문제점을 먼저 기술하고, 기존의 상용 GIS 시스템에 구축된 지하시설물 데이터를 웹 상에서 3차원으로 시각화 및 분석 정보를 제공하기 위한 3차원 데이터 구조를 설계하고, 네트워크 상에서 3차원 데이터 및 공간 분석 결과를 효율적으로 전송하기 위한 3차원 공간 데이터 서버를 설계 및 구현하였다. 또한 JAVA와 VRML 등의 인터넷 기술을 응용하여 웹 상에서 지하시설물 데이터의 3차원 시각화 및 능동적인 조작 및 관리, 분석이 가능한 3차원 지하시설물 관리시스템을 설계 및 구현하였다.

  • The information of university entrance examination is important information to examinees as well as each universities. And this information can be used various fields. By using this information, examinees can choose the university which is most suitable regions through oneself's grade, and universities can decide the entrance policy and public relations of university. Furthermore, this information can be used important data to promote student's welfare. Therefore the introduction of College Matriculation System which can share between examinees and universities is keenly required. This study has developed the College Matriculation System which is Web2.0- based by using Naver Map API. By using this system, the information about candidates, and successful candidates and registrants for admission can be analysed, also the ratio of successful candidates in comparison with candidates and the change ratio of candidates during these three years can be analyzed. Besides, it can be supported the entrance public relations policy of universities by managing the public relations history, and it can be provided the information of university by grade to examinees on matriculation information based. Therefore, it was possible that manage and practical use of various data through connected with map based on web 2.0 which is opened. And it is considered possible to express more various information based on map constructing GIS system of user center that is not GIS system of existent offerer center.

  • 제1차와 제2차 ‘국가지리정보체계(NGIS)구축기본계획’ 을 시행하면서 체계적인 GIS기반이 마련되어 중앙정부와 지방자치단체 등 공공부문을 중심으로 다양한 부문에서 GIS구축사업이 추진되었다. 그러나 GIS사업은 초기 막대한 구축비용과 사업완료이후에도 유지관리비용이 지속적으로 소요되기 때문에 그 타당성이 가시적으로 나타나지 않으면 사업의 추진이 어렵다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 체계적이고 과학적인 효과분석을 위한 GIS사업의 평가모형을 제시하고 이를 바탕으로 웹 기반의 GIS 효과분석시스템을 구현하였다. 본 연구의 GIS 효과분석시스템은 최신의 정확한 정보와 검증된 분석방법을 실시간 제공하기 위해 웹 기반으로 설 계 하였다. 왱 기반의 분석시스템은 GIS사업의 효과분석에 있어 시ㆍ공간의 제약을 받지 않고 GIS사업의 효과평가를 가능하게 한다. 또한 GIS사업의 효과측정에 있어서 타당성을 부여하여 과학적인 기준을 제시하며, 분석결과는 사업의 추진을 위한 재원마련과 정책결정자 설득의 기초 자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

  • Geographic Information System(GIS) market in Korea was made based on "the First Master Plan for the korean National GIS" Recently the private GIS market is growing rapidly for LBS, Telematics, Web Geographic Information Service. So, the purpose of this study is to make the development strategies reflected ′moving the core of GIS market′ from public to private sector. By using the Model of Added Value chain, the business model which reflect features of geographical information best, we analyzed markets and classified them into four fields along the uses and degrees of added value. The features of markets in each field are researched and the ways of development about each fields are established. And the business model for geoaphic information circulation is made for development of GIS. market. To realize the development strategies in each field, this study proposes the national roles.

  • Due to the rapid advance in web and mobile computing technologies, normal users have become to produce, provide, and share a varied form of spatial data and information. In the domain of spatial information, numerous researches on GIS have been conducted to provide spatial information services based on a geo-sensor network and a data integration and processing technology. However, to provide user-oriented information, a context information model is necessary to associate GIS data with web and sensor data. Context awareness services is designed to provide specific information, minimizing users' interference. For which, the context information model expresses the relationship of various data from sensor networks and mobile applications and provides a user-specific information considering location and area of interest. Thus, this research aims to develops a context information model based air-pollution information system that obtains and analyses air pollution data and reflects the analysis results on an air-pollution policy. Also, this system aims to raise citizens' awareness on air-pollution and to promote citizens' participatory to improve city's air quality.

  • As public participation in the community issues have expanded, an urban planning paradigm has been changed to the planning with public participation. The role of GIS also expanded to support decision making process for the public in addition to supporting that of decision-makers. Residential Environment Improvement, which is the improvement method of an undeveloped urban area, is to regenerate a community based on public participation. However, the current process of public participation is formal. Therefore the purpose of this study is to lead the public a positive participation in Residential Environment Improvement using GIS. We proposed a web_based PPGIS model including project information service, public opinion expression service, two-way communication service and GIS services, and developed a prototype. This model can be a useful tool to make decision makers, experts and the public share their ideas and communicate each other, and to increase the public participation in planning process.

  • Most of traffic management systems include the map-based traffic information services using World Wide Web. Geographic Information System is an efficient tool to build a map-based system. However, many traffic information service systems have own independent maps for graphic/animation softwares such as Adobe Flash. These systems make it difficult to manage modifications of maps. In this paper, we suggest a new GIS-based traffic information service system without these problems. The proposed system makes the efficient use of GIS map data for traffic information service because a map display engine is separated from map data that is transferred after real-time conversion.

Web Services Framework for Geo-spatial Data on Wireless Network (무선 네트워크 환경을 고려한 공간정보 웹 서비스 프레임워크)

  • This paper proposes a Web Service framework on both wired and wireless network environment that can be interoperable and extensible among geo-spatial servers. Mostly, OGC has studied and announced international standards which are related to web services on various kinds of geo-spatial data. Therefore, the proposed framework satisfies interoperability and extensibility for geo-spatial servers by adapting WMS, WFS, WCS, and WRS standards of OGC and web services standards of W3C. This framework, also, satisfies requirements of huge volumed data service, GML service, geo-spatial function service, and wireless network service. This framework consists of geo-spatial servers group, geo-spatial broker, and web-based client. The geo-spatial servers group includes GIS, SIIS, ITS, GNSS, and Telematics server for the purpose of providing various kinds of geo-spatial services. Especially, this paper proposes main memory based GIS server(MMG server) that can efficiently serve huge volumed GML data on wireless network environment. Finally, experimental results about the MMG server and prototype implementations of the framework show the effectiveness of this study.
