  • The network structures of a hyperlinked environment can be a rich source of information about the contents of the environment and it provides effective means for understanding it. Recently, there have been a number of algorithms proposed analyzing hypertext link structure so as to determine the best authorities for a given topic or query. In this paper, we review the algorithm of mutual reinforcement relationship for finding hubs and authorities from World Wide Web, and suggest SHA, a new approach for link-structure analysis, which uses the relationships among a set of relative authoritative pages, a set of hub pages, and a set of super hub pages.

  • Because steel girder bridge has big slenderness ratio, buckling is very important in design. Local buckling of plate girders having two longitudinal stiffeners in different positions under various load conditions is investigated. Various parametric study according to the change of web height, transverse stiffeners and load conditions are examined. These parametric studies are performed by numerical simulation utilizing finite element method. The objective of this study is to present the rational reinforcement location of two longitudinal stiffeners. The results of analysis are compared to that recommended by korean specifications for road bridges(2003).

  • The requirement of the maximum yield strength of shear reinforcement in the KCI-07 code is quite different to those in the ACI-08 code, EC2-02, CSA-04, and JSCE-04 codes. Eighteen RC beams having high strength shear reinforcement were tested. Test results indicated that even if the yield strength of shear reinforcement in beams was much greater than the maximum yield strength required by the KCI-07 design code, the shear reinforcement of these beams reached their yield strains. Furthermore, the shear strengths of tested beams increased almost linearly with the increase of the amount of shear reinforcement. In addition, larger numbers of diagonal cracks developed in the web of the beam having greater yield strength than the beams having lower yield strength of shear reinforcement. The maximum crack width of the beam having high strength shear reinforcement was approximately the same to the crack with of the beam having normal strength shear reinforcement.

  • T-shaped walls have different strength, stiffness and ductility in the two opposite directions parallel to the web when subjected to horizontal in-plane loads. When the flange is in tension, the extent that the flange reinforcement contributes to the flexural strength will be subjected to shear-lag effect. Because of this shear-lag effect, the flange may not participate fully in the action with the web, and the effective flange width is needed for predicting the actual strength and stiffness of structures. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the effective flange width and actual strength of the T-shaped wall with Korean code specified detailing of the wall web. Three specimens were tested with cyclic lateral loading applied at top of the wall. A constant axial load of approximately 0.1f$\_$ck/$.$A$\_$g/ is maintained during the testing. Test results show that the effective flange width increases with increasing drift level, such that the entire overhanging flange of h/3 is effective at the maximum strength level. Therefore, the use of PCI or KBC(Korean Building Code) value of h/10 is unconservative with respect to detailing at the wall web boundary.

  • In the present study, the deformation capacity of slender shear walls with thin web subject to inelastic deformation after flexural yielding was studied. Web-crushing and rebar-fracture were considered as the governing failure mechanisms of walls. To address the effect of the longitudinal elongation on web-crushing and rebar-fracture, the longitudinal elongation was predicted by using truss model analysis. The failure criteria by web-crushing and rebar-fracture were defined as a function of the longitudinal elongation. The proposed method was applied to 17 shear wall specimens with boundary columns, and the prediction results were compared with the test results. The results showed that proposed method predicted the maximum deformations and failure modes of the wall specimens with reasonable precision.

  • Recently fiber sheets are used for strengthening the damaged concrete structures due to its many advantages such as its durability, non-corrosive nature, low weight, ease of application, cost saving, control of crack propagation, strength to thickness ratio, high tensile strength, serviceability and aesthetic. However, the lack of analytical procedures for predicting the nominal moment capacity by the fiber sheet reinforcement leads to difficulties in the effective process of decisions of the factors in the strengthening procedure. In this work, flexural strengthening effects by fiber sheets bonded on soffit and web of the member are theoretically studied for the reinforced concrete T beam. The analytical solutions are compared with experimental results of several references to verify the proposed approach.

  • The objective of this paper is to look into the possibility of the detailed and practical optimum design of rt:inforced concrete beam using methods oi discrete mathematical programming. In this discrete optimum formulation, the design variables are the overall depth, width and effective depth of members, and area of longitudinal reinforcement. In addition, the details such as the amount of web reinforcement and cutoff points of longitudinal reinforcement are also considered as variables. Total cost has been used as the objective function. The constraints include the code requirments such as flexural strength, shear strength, ductility, serviceability, concrete cover. spacing, web reinforcement, and development length and cutoff points of longitudinal renforcement. An optimization algorithm is presented for effective optimum design of R.C. beam with discrete de sign variables. First, the continuous variable optimization can be achieved by Feasible Direction Method. Using the results obtained from the continuous variable optimization, a branch and bound method is used to obtained the discrete design values. The proposed algorithm is applied to test problem for reliability, and the results are compared with those of graphical method and rounded-up method. And a simply supported R.C. beam and a two-span continuous R.C. beam are presented as numerical examples for effectiveness and applicability. It is considered that the presented algorithm can be effectively applied to the discrete optimum design of R.C. beams.

  • An experimental research was carried out to investigate the effect of thc compressive strength of concrete on the stirrup effectiveness in shear behavior of concrete beams. For this purpose. total 24 beams of section dimension of $300{\times}600mm$ were tested: 4 specimens without web reinforcement and 20 specimens with web reinforcement in the form of vertical stirrups. Main variables were two levels(norma1 and high strength) of the compressive strength of concrete and six types of t h e shear rcinfor.cement ratios. Prior to experiment, for given sections and assumed material constants, the reference shear reinforcement ratio(${\rho}_vACI$) which leads to the flexure failure using the provisions of the ACI Building Code(AC1 318-95) was calculated. and the shear reinforcement ratios were relatively selected from the value of ${\rho}_vACI$. From test results, it was shown that thc safety factor of ACI eyuation for p1,ediction of shear strength was decreased with increasing the compressive strength of concrete in beams without stirrups. However. it was observed that as the amount of' stirrup is increased, the safety factor for high strength conci, ete beams with high stirrup ratio is ensured more than that for normal strength concrete beams. Therefore i t appears that the stirrup effectiveness of high strength concrete beams is greater than that of normal strength concrete beams.

  • ASCE-ACI Committee 426 and 445, on Shear and Torsion, well noted in their report that recent research work regarding shear and torsion had been devoted primarily to members. But it was not logical approach of PSC members applied by axial force based on the shear deformation in web element. And it was not included that the effect of axial is to shift the shear strain(or crack width) in the web element versus the applied shear curve up or down by the amount by which the biaxial tension-compression state varies. The shear strength also increases or decreases, so that the change in shear strain at service load due to the presence of axial load is to some extent changed. Generally, in corresponding beams the shear strain at service load is less in the beam subject to axial compression and greater in the beam subject to axial tension, than in the beam without axial load. In particular, however, no research were available on the shear deformation in shear of PSC members with web reinforcement, subject to axial force in addition to shear and bending. Therefore, this study was basically performed to develop the program for the calculation of the shear deformation based on the shear effect of axial force in prestressed concrete members.
