$M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy is one of the very powerful analytical methods for studying the steel properties. It is the most important advantage that the steel properties can be quantitatively analyzed by Mossbauer analysis. The quantitative analysis could provide various information about corrosion products, environmental condition, kind of steel, foreign element, particle size, etc. It can be also applied for the study of strength and phase of steel, as functions of the kind of steel and foreign elements.
Increasing environmental concerns require to solve the problem produced due to the use of heavy metals in coating formulations. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new coating strategy employing inherently conducting polymers such as Polyaniline(PANI). Polyaniline films were electrosynthesized by oxidation of aniline on cold rolled and weathering sheets using the potentiostatic mode from an aqueous oxalic acid medium. Potentiodynamic polarization curves were obtained for cold rolled and weathering sheets in the aqueous solution of 3% sodium chloride. The structure and properties of polyaniline film were elucidated using SEM, DSC, SST. A high corrosion resistance of polyaniline films were observed with a gain of the corrosion potential around 600-900 mV positive in the substrate covered with polyaniline than in the case without it.

Weather proof steels are used for steel bridges due to its high corrosion resistance under atmospheric conditions. However, instead of forming stabilized rust layers, general rust occurs on weather proof steels under high humidity condition close to seawater or shady places. In Japan, therefore, they perform rust stabilization treatment instead of unpainted treatment due to severe atmospheric conditions. However, most of domestic weather proof steels were constructed unpainted in the form of closed box-girder, which makes the periodical repetition of dry and wet hard to occur. For the steel bridges constructed on the Han river, the evaporation of water, dew condensation due to temperature change, and stagnant water due to rain affect harmfully on the formation of passive film on weather proof steels. Thus, in this research, in order to analyze corrosion properties inside the closed box-girder for the unpainted weather proof steel bridge in the waterworks safety zone, multiple ways of analysis such as observation with eyes, cellophane-tape test, steel thickness measurement, surface corrosion potential measurement, electron microscope analysis, and X-ray diffraction analysis of the rust were performed. As a result, unstable rust layer was observed inside the closed box-girder, and severe corrosion was observed on the top and bottom of the flanges due to the effects of stagnant water caused by rain, dew condensation, and de-icing materials.
In any developing nation major investment goes for infrastructure and it is not exception in India. Good numbers of buildings, bridges, shopping malls, car parks etc. are coming up with steel for sustainable development. Thus protecting the structures from corrosion are the challenges faced by professionals for all types of steel structures. About 3% of GDP is accounted for loss due to corrosion. To combat this up to date corrosion map is called for as the country has wide variation of climatic zones with vastcoastline. Logically organic paint system can be prescribed based on the corrosion rate on bare steel with respect to environment. Present paper will emphasis on the study conducted on two types of structural steel coated with organic paint located in twomarine environment having been exposed for three years, Test coupons made from steels both bare and coated are deployed at two field stations having marine (Digha) and industrial marine (Channai) environments. Various tests like AC impedance DC corrosion, polarisation, salt spray test, $SO_2$ chamber and Raman spectroscopy were carried out both in laboratory on fresh as well as coupons collected from exposure sites. Rust formed on the bare and scribed coated coupons are investigated. It is found that normal marine environment at Digha exhibits higher corrosion rate than polluted marine environment in Channai. Rust analysis indicates formation of ${\propto}$-FeoOH protects or reduces corrosion rate at Channai and formation of non-protective ${\gamma}$-FeoOH increases corrosion rate at Digha. The slower corrosion rate in Channai than at Digha is attributed due to availability of $SO_2$, in the environment, which converts non‐protective rust ${\gamma}$-FeoOH to protective rust ${\propto}$-FeoOH. While comparing the damage on the coated panels it is found that low alloy structural steel provides less damage than plain carbon steel. From the experimentations a suitable paint system specification is drawn for identical environments for low medium and high durability.
Stone cultural properties(pagoda, Buddhist statue etc.) is moved in original place for many reasons and restored after taking to pieces for structural safety. With the movement and restoration after taking to pieces, the cast iron is used for the sake of a fixation and horizontality. The stone cultural properties are spoiled the beauty and accelerated the weathering because of the corrosion product of cast iron. So we need to substitute for the improved property in all aspects. We are executed the corrosion test and inquired the property of material on the usable material for the shim of stone cultural properties. That is the Cast iron, Stainless steel, Titanium and Fiber Reinforced Plastics. In the result of the physical property and strength, the Stainless steel and Titanium was superior to the Cast iron. And the Stainless steel and Titanium was slower than the Cast iron in the corrosion velocity for the acid, salt and rain. If the shim is substitute the Stainless steel or Titanium for the Cast iron, the stone cultural properties are able to reduce the pollution of stone cultural properties by corrosion product and should not happen in the matter of stone pagoda.
This research presents an evaluation of the weathering and deterioration state of the Wanggung-ri five-storied stone pagoda in the Iksan (National Treasure No. 289) and suggests conservational schemes. A deterioration map of the pagoda was drawn from the aspects of petrological, physical, chemical, biological, structural and artificial weathering. The rock properties consisting of the pagoda were medium-grained biotite granite that had leucocratic phenocryst developed in parts. The body of each story suffered severely from the secondary contamination that turned the colors into light grey, pitch dark, yellowish brown, and reddish brown as well as granular decomposition, exfoliation and peel-off. The roof stones were heavy exfoliated or peeled off in most of the cases. In addition to the fine cracks, there were layered cracks on the corners. The roof stones of the3rd and 4th story in the north and west side had some stones fall-off, while those of the 2ndstory in the north side had steel reinforcement filled for a fixing purpose. Those of the 5th story showed big gaps that must have originated from cracks and were easily subject to granular decomposition and rainfall. The inside clay filler was missing in the lower part of the roof stones of the 4th and 5th story and the supporting stones, which were thus covered by light grey or pitch dark sediments. The contact area of the materials was about 70 % in the parts where there was a space due to the filler missing and washigher than 90 % in the lower parts of the pagoda. About 90 % or more of the roof stones surface of each story were covered by aerial plants that formed a thick biological mat. Thus it seemed necessary to come up with the conservational measures to remove the plans living on the surface of the stone materials, with the plans to prevent rain from falling inside, and with the water repellent and hardening treatments to postpone the surface weathering of the rock properties. All those measures and plans must be based on the results of long-term monitoring and thorough detail investigations.

PURPOSES: The purpose of this study is to evaluate physical properties, durability, fatigue resistance, and long-term performance of poly-urethane concrete (PU) which can be possible application of thin layer on long-span orthotropic steel bridge and to check structural stability of bridge structure. METHODS : Various tests of physical properties, such as flexural strength, tensile strength, bond strength and coefficient of thermal expansion tests were conducted for physical property evaluation using two types of poly urethane concrete which have different curing time. Freezing and thawing test, accelerated weathering test and chloride ion penetration test were performed to evaluate the effect of exposed to marine environment. Beam fatigue test and small scale accelerated pavement test were performed to assess the resistance of PU against fatigue damage and long-term performance. Structural analysis were conducted to figure out structural stability of bridge structure and thin bridge deck pavement system. RESULTS: The property tests results showed that similar results were observed overall however the flexural strength of PUa was higher than those of PUb. It was also found that PU materials showed durability at marine environment. Beam fatigue test results showed that the resistances of the PUa against fatigue damage were two times higher than those of the PUb. It was found form small scale accelerated pavement test to evaluate long-term performance that there is no distress observed after 800,000 load applications. Structural analysis to figure out structural stability of bridge structure and thin bridge deck pavement system indicated that bridge structures were needed to increase thickness of steel deck plate or to improve longitudinal rib shape. CONCLUSIONS: It has been known that the use of PU can be positively considered to thin layer on long-span orthotropic steel bridge in terms of properties considered marine environment, resistance of fatigue damage and long-term performance.

As the world wind energy market grows rapidly, the productions of wind power generation equipment have recently increased, but manufacturers are not able meet this requirement. Particularly offshore wind energy industry is one of the most popular renewable energy sectors. To generalize welding processes, the welding automation is considered for steel structure manufacturing in offshore wind energy to get high quality and productivity. Welding technology in construction of the wind towers is depended on progress productivity. In addition, the life of wind tower structures should be considered by taking account of the natural weathering and the load it endures. The root passes are typically deposited using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding(GTAW) with a specialized backing gas shield. Not only the validation consists of welders experienced in determining the welding productivity of the baseline welding procedure, but also the standard testing required by the ASME section IX and API1104 codes, toughness testing was performed on the completed field welds. This paper presents the welding characteristics of the root-pass welding of high tensile steel in manufacturing of offshore wind tower. Based on the result from welding experiments, optimal welding conditions were selected after analyzing correlation between welding parameters(peak current, background current and wire feed rate) and back-bead geometry such as back-bead width(mm) and back-bead height performing root-pass welding experiment under various conditions. Furthermore, a response surface approach has been applied to provide an algorithm to predict an optimal welding quality.

Most structures are constantly influenced by repeated weathering phenomena and load action during a period of its utilization, and their component materials become superannuated and their design performance becomes slowly lost. Therefore, it is thought that it is necessary to develop the online monitoring system that can make a great contribution to the maintenance management and disaster prevention of the building structure by sensing any slight change of the entire structure regardless of its inside and outside. Especially, this study was intended to explain the entire system of the online structure by interpreting welded built-up H-beams, of structural steel members having many advantages in terms of the qualities of structural materials, through limit state design, and presenting the basic plan to apply it to the structure.

Many studies have investigated the airborne chlorides that can weaken the overall durability of the concrete structures due to the corrosion of steel materials, but most of the studies have aimed to examine weathering by exposing various construction materials to the actual oceanic environment. However, with the exposure test, it was difficult to find the threshold of precise corrosive amount of airborne chlorides due to diverse deteriorating environmental factors such as ultraviolet ray, acid rain, floating material from industrial pollution as well as airborne chlorides. Therefore, in this study, an airborne chloride simulator was set up, in oder to conduct a corrosion accelerating test for steels coated by five different finishing materials. As results, it was found that the corrosion began to be observed at $0.58{\sim}0.73mg/dm^2$ for no-coated steel, at $7.89{\sim}8.46mg/dm^2$for urethane-coated steel, at $57.95{\sim}69.48mg/dm^2$ for red lead-coated steel, and at $80.73{\sim}89.35mg/dm^2$ for stainless-coated steel, respectively. Hence, these specific data can be considered as the threshold ranges of corrosion for each coating material for steel.
