  • In usual synchronous parallel computing, workload balance is a crucial factor to reduce idle times of some processors that have finished their jobs earlier than others. However, it is difficult to achieve on a heterogeneous workstation clusters where the available computing power of each processor is unpredictable. As a way to overcome such a problem, the idea of asynchronous methods has grown out and is being increasingly used and studied, but there is none for eigenvalue problems yet. In this paper, we suggest a new asynchronous method to solve some singular matrix problems, that can also be used for finding a certain eigenvector of some matrices.

  • In this paper we develop a method for calculating a probability that a particular generalized variance is the smallest of all the K multivariate normal generalized variances. The method gives a way of comparing K multivariate populations in terms of their dispersion or spread, because the generalized variance is a scalar measure of the overall multivariate scatter. Fully parametric frequentist approach for the probability is intractable and thus a Bayesian method is pursued using a variant of weighted Monte Carlo (WMC) sampling based approach. Necessary theory involved in the method and computation is provided.

  • This paper describes usability evaluation techniques for the human interface of consumer electronic products. The techniques include measures for evaluating the user performance and emotion/impression on the product. Evaluation method for collecting the measures were also surveyed and summarized. Finally, this paper describes a systematic way of finding appropriate methods for collecting a specific measures.

  • A huge amount of financial information in large databases makes performance comparisons among organizations difficult or at least very time-consuming. This paper investigates whether neural networks in the form of self-organizing maps can be effectively employed to perform a competitive benchmarking in large databases. By using self-organizing maps, we expect to overcome problems associated with finding appropriate underlying distributions and functional forms of underlying data. The method also offers a way of visualizing the results. The database in this study consists of annual financial reports of 100 biggest Korean companies over the years 1998, 1999, and 2000.

  • When top down method is used, it could be a construction method trouble in column joint, between the former concrete and the latter. It could bring a void and weak concrete in column. The purpose of this study is finding a way to prevent concrete void and concrete suitable for top down, through V-metering for top down column and concrete experiment.

  • The electric locomotive make a development by using as a trial petition way on the basis of finding for several years in 1996 and the electric locomotive in KNR railway electrification section of AC25KV 60Hz, can couple with passenger train of 700 ton doing running possibility from evenness to maximum running speed 140Km/h, Specially, propulsion equipment operates three phase AC motor that behaves axle control by VVVF inverter and affords higher axle per tractive effort as behaving control by SIBAS32 that up-to-date technology is integrated. Also, new style electric locomotive is designed so that can run in -35∼45 climatic condition.

  • The singular value decomposition is a tool which is used to find a linear structure of reduced dimension and to give interpretation of the lower dimensional structure about multivariate data. In this paper the singular value decomposition is reviewed from both algebraic and geometric point of view and, is illustrated the way which the tool is used in the multivariate techniques finding a simpler geometric structure for the data.

  • The recent dramatic growth of ERP has changed the way organizations conduct their businesses, and resulted in significant tangible and intangible benefits being realized by participating firms. Despite these various benefits, firms still have problems in implementing and diffusing ERP due to some reasons, such as resistance to the change. This study primarily aims at identifying what factors are significantly affecting the diffusion of ERP system and finding out how these identified factors can be effectively managed.

  • Community participation in health has been praised as a new way of improving health inequality in developing countries for many decades. This paper is an attempt to evaluate community participation programs in health focusing on two intercultural health hospitals in IX Region of Chile. After exploring the process of program building and its impact on the quality of service, this paper concludes that a community participation program with stronger participation resulted in higher patient satisfaction. The author expects such finding to contribute to more comprehensive understanding of the impact of participation in health programs.
