  • In this paper, the wavelet denoising techniques using thresholding method are applied to the low cost micro electromechanical system (MEMS)-global positioning system(GPS) integrated system. This was done to improve the navigation performance. The low cost MEMS signals can be distorted with conventional pre-filtering method such as low-pass filtering method. However, wavelet denoising techniques using thresholding method do not distort the rapidly-changing signals. They can reduce the signal noise. This paper verified the improvement of the navigation performance compared to the conventional pre-filtering by simulation and experiment.

  • The cognitive ultra-wideband (UWB) network detects interfering narrowband systems and adapts its configuration accordingly. An inherently adaptive and flexible candidate for cognitive UWB transmission is the wavelet packet multicarrier modulation (WPMCM). In this letter, we use an enhanced forward consecutive mean excision thresholding algorithm to tackle the noise uncertainty in the wavelet-based sensing of WPMCM systems, and mathematical analysis is performed for primary user channel fading. As a benchmark, we compare the proposed system with a conventional fast Fourier transformation-based system, and performance investigation proves significant improvements when primary and secondary links are subjected to multipath fading and noise.

  • In this paper, the different frequency component and time informations from an EMI signal are extracted simultaneously using a wavelet transform and the results of transform in the time and frequency domain are analyzed. Frequencies are extracted from the EMI signal by performing the multiresolution analysis using the Daubechies-4 filter coefficients and the time information through the results of wavelet transform. We have tried the correlation analysis to evaluate the results of wavelet transform. We have chosen the optimal wavelet function for an object signal by comparing the transformed results of various wavelet functions and verified the simulation examples of waveform and harmonic analysis using a wavelet transform. We have proved the denoising effect to the EMI signal using the soft thresholding technique.

  • In this paper we propose a new approach to the variable selection problem for a primary resolution and wavelet basis functions in wavelet regression. Most wavelet shrinkage methods focus on thresholding the wavelet coefficients, given a primary resolution which is usually determined by the sample size. However, both a primary resolution and the basis functions are affected by the shape of an unknown function rather than the sample size. Unlike existing methods, our method does not depend on the sample size and also takes into account the shape of the unknown function.

  • Wavelet coefficients are known to have decorrelating properties, since wavelet is orthonormal transformation. but empirically, those wavelet coefficients of images, like edges, are not statistically independent. Jansen and Bultheel(1999) developed the empirical Bayes approach to improve the classical threshold algorithm using local characterization in Markov random field. They consider the clustering of significant wavelet coefficients with uniform distribution. In this paper, we developed wavelet thresholding algorithm using Laplacian distribution which is more realistic model.

  • A wavelet method is presented in order to improve the computational efficiency of two dimensional unsteady flow problems while maintaining the order of accuracy of conventional CFD schemes. First, by using the interpolating wavelet transformation including decomposition and thresholding, an adaptive dataset to a solution is constructed. Then, inviscid and viscous fluxes are calculated only at the points within an adaptive dataset, which enhances the computational efficiency. Second, thresholding step is modified to maintain the spatial and temporal accuracy of conventional CFD schemes automatically by selecting the threshold value between user-defined value and the magnitude of spatial or temporal truncation error. The wavelet method suggested in this study is successfully applied to various unsteady flow problems and it is shown that the computational efficiency is enhanced with maintaining the computational accuracy of CFD schemes.

  • A new image coding technique has been proposed based on the wavelet transform. To achieve lower ceding rates and good qualities in reconstructed images, some of wavelet coefficients were removed by thresholding and quantized in accordance with the sensitivity of the human visual system(HVS). For each block of subimages in wavelet transform domain, block thresholding scheme has been used to remove the unimportant wavelet coefficients according to the frequency characteristic and statistical property of wavelet coefficients. The location information of quantized blocks and removed blocks were encoded using run-length coder which is effective for the exponential distribution. Quantized coefficients were encoded using variable length coder which matches well to their distribution. Simulation results show that the reconstructed images maintain high quality with the low bit rate, below 1.0 bits per pel.

Digital X-ray imaging system is essential equipment in the field diagnosis and is widely used in the various fields such as chest, fracture of a bone, and dental correction. Especially, digital X-ray mammographic imaging is known as the most important method to diagnose the breast cancer, many researches to develop the imaging system are processing in country. In this paper, we proposed a microcalcifications detection algorithm necessary in the early phase of breast cancer diagnosis and showed that a algorithm could effectively detect microcalfication and could aid diagnosis-radiologist.
