  • We propose a new wavelet neural network structure, for which we apply new recurrent nodes to the network, in this paper for the dynamic system identification and control. We will construct the wavelet neural network by using wavelet frame function. The function does not have the best approximation property, but it may be possible to apply some modification to the structure of the network because the constriction of orthogonality is loosened a little. This wavelet neural network we propose can obtain previous state information by its structure of the network without any addition of input, though the conventional wavelet network needs additional previous state input for the improvement of the dynamic performance. In numerical experience, the performance of the new wavelet neural network we propose in the nonlinear system with uncertainity of parameter Is equal to that of the wavelet network which used the additional previous information input, superior to that of the conventional wavelet network.

  • In this paper we discuss an algorithm for a real time transmission of moving color images on the TCP/IP network using wavelet transform and neural network. The image frames received from the camera are two-level wavelet-transformed in the server, and are transmitted to the client on the network. Then, the client performs the inverse wavelet-fransform using only the received pieces of each image frame within the prescribed time limit to display the moving images. When the TCP/IP network is busy, only a fraction of each image frame will be delivered. When the line is free, the whole frame of each image will be transferred to the client. The receiver warns the sender of the condition of traffic congestion in the network by sending a special short frame for this specific purpose. The sender can respond to this condition of warning by simply reducing the data rate which is adjusted by a back-propagation neural network. In this way we can send a stream of moving images adaptively adjusting to the network traffic condition.

  • This study aims at evaluating composite moment frame structures (CFS) using wavelet analysis of the displacement behavior of these structures. Five seismic damage mitigation systems' models of 9-story CFS are examined namely, basic (Model 1), reinforced (Model 2), buckling restrained braced (BRB) (Model 3), lead rubber bearing (LRB) (Model 4), and composite (Model 5) moment frames. A novel integration between continuous and discrete wavelet transforms is designed to estimate the wavelet power energy and variance of measurements' behaviors. The behaviors of the designed models are evaluated under influence of four seismic loads to study the dynamic performance of CFS in the frequency domain. The results show the behaviors of models 3 and 5 are lower than other models in terms of displacement and frequency performances. Model 3 has been shown lower performances in terms of energy and variance wavelets along the monitoring time; therefore, Model 3 demonstrates superior performance and low probability of failure under seismic loads. Furthermore, the wavelet variance analysis is shown a powerful tool that can be used to assess the CFS under seismic hazards.

  • Discrimination of music and speech from the multimedia signal is an important task in audio coding and broadcast monitoring systems. This paper deals with the problem of feature parameter extraction for discrimination of music and speech. The wavelet transform is a multi-resolution analysis method that is useful for analysis of temporal and spectral properties of non-stationary signals such as speech and audio signals. We propose new feature parameters extracted from the wavelet transformed signal for discrimination of music and speech. First, wavelet coefficients are obtained on the frame-by-frame basis. The analysis frame size is set to 20 ms. A parameter $E_{sum}$ is then defined by adding the difference of magnitude between adjacent wavelet coefficients in each scale. The maximum and minimum values of $E_{sum}$ for period of 2 seconds, which corresponds to the discrimination duration, are used as feature parameters for discrimination of music and speech. To evaluate the performance of the proposed feature parameters for music and speech discrimination, the accuracy of music and speech discrimination is measured for various types of music and speech signals. In the experiment every 2-second data is discriminated as music or speech, and about 93% of music and speech segments have been successfully detected.

  • Suppose that $\psi{\;}\in{\;}L^2(\mathbb{R})$ generates a wavelet frame (resp. Riesz basis) with bounds A and B. If $\phi{\;}\in{\;}L^2(\mathbb{R})$ satisfies $$\mid$\^{\psi}(\xi)\;\^{\phi}(\xi)$\mid${\;}<{\;}{\lambda}\frac{$\mid$\xi$\mid$^{\alpha}}{(1+$\mid$\xi$\mid$)^{\gamma}}$ for some positive constants $\alpha,{\;}\gamma,{\;}\lambda$ such that $1{\;}<1{\;}+{\;}\alpha{\;}<{\;}\gamma{\;}and{\;}{\lambda}^2M{\;}<{\;}A$, then $\phi$ also generates a wavelet frame (resp. Riesz basis) with bounds $A(1{\;}-{\;}{\lambda}\sqrt{M/A})^2{\;}and{\;}B(1{\;}+{\;}{\lambda}\sqrt{M/A})^2$, where M is a constant depending only on $\alpha,{\;}\gamma$ the dilation step a, and the translation step b.

  • In this paper, we have proposed the efficient algorithm that can segment the video scene change using a various statistical characteristics obtained from by applying the wavelet transformation for each frames. Our method firstly extracts the histogram features from low frequency subband of wavelet-transformed image and then uses these features to detect the abrupt scene change. Second, it extracts the edge information from applying the mesh method to the high frequency subband of transformed image. We quantify the extracted edge information as the values of variance characteristic of each pixel and use these values to detect the gradual scene change. And we have also proposed an algorithm how extract the proper key frame from segmented video scene. Experiment results show that the proposed method is both very efficient algorithm in segmenting video frames and also is to become the appropriate key frame extraction method.

  • In this paper, we propose feature extraction and tracking algorithm using multi resolution in 2-dimensional wavelet domain. Feature extraction selects feature points using 2-level wavelet transform in interested region. Feature tracking estimates displacement between current frame and next frame based on feature point which is selected feature extraction algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm confirmed a better performance than the existing other algorithms.

  • A novel rte control algorithm consisting of two major components, i.e. a variable encoding frame rate method and a hybrid DCT/wavelet I-frame coding scheme, is proposed in this work for low bit rate video coding. Most existing rate control algorithms for low bit rate video focus on bit allocation at the macroblock level under a constant frame rate assumption. The proposed rate control algorithm is able to adjust the encoding frame rate at the expense of tolerable time-delay. Furthermore, an R-D optimized hybrid DCT/wavelet scheme is used for effective I-frame coding. The new rate-control algorithm attempts to achieve a good balance between spatial quality and temporal quality to enhance the overall human perceptual quality at low bit rates. It is demonstrated that the rate control algorithm achieves higher coding efficiency at low bit rates with a low additional computational cost. The variable frame rate method and hybrid I-frame coding scheme are compatible with the bi stream structure of H.263+.

  • The main goal for this paper is consider the necessary conditions and sufficient conditions of wavelet frames in higher dimensions with an arbitrary expanding matrix dilation. At first, we give a necessary condition of wavelet frame in $L^2(R^n)$, which generalizes the univariate results of Shi from one dimension with an arbitrary real number a(a > 1) dilation to higher dimension with an arbitrary expansive matrix dilation. Secondly, we deduce a necessary condition for wavelet frames in $L^2(R^n)$ when the function $\psi$ satisfies some property of the decay. For the case n = 1, we obtain a corollary which has weaker condition comparing with existing result.
