In this study, wave force tests were carried out for the four types of offshore support structures with scale factor 1:25 and wave forces to the support structure shapes were investigated. As the results of this study, it was found that, as the wave period increased at the normal wave condition, wave force decreased for the most cases. Extreme wave force was affected by the impact wave force. Impact wave force of this study significantly effect on Monopile and slightly on GBS and Hybrid type. Accordingly, Hybrid type indicated even lower wave force at the extreme and irregular wave conditions than the Monopile although Hybrid type indicated higher wave force at the normal wave condition of the regular wave because of the larger wave area of wave body. In respects of the structural design, since critical loading is extreme wave force, it should be contributed to improve structural safety of offshore support structure. However, since the impact wave force has nonlinearity and complication dependent on the support structure shape, wave height, wave period, and etc., more research is needed to access the impact wave force for other support structure shapes and wave conditions.
In offshore, various external forces such as wind force, tidal current and impulsive breaking wave force act on offshore wind tower. Among these forces, impulsive breaking wave force is especially more powerful than other forces. Therefore, various studies on impulsive breaking wave forces have been carried out, but the soil reaction are incomplete. In this study, the p-y curve is used to calculate the soil reaction acting on the offshore wind tower when an impulsive breaking wave force occurs by typhoon. The calculation of offshore wind tower against impulsive breaking wave force is applied for the multi-layered soil. The results obtained in this study show that although the same wave height is applied, the soil reaction generated by impulsive breaking wave force is greater than the soil reaction generated by wave force.
Tension Leg Platform (TLP) is a floating structure that consists of four columns with large diameter. The diffraction theory is used to calculate the wave force of floating structures with large dimensions (TLP). In this study, the diffraction and Froude-Krylov wave forces of TLP for surge, sway and heave motions and wave force moment for roll, pitch degrees of freedom in different wave periods and three wave approach angles have been investigated. From the numerical results, it can be concluded that the wave force for different wave approach angle is different. There are some humps and hollows in the curve of wave forces and moment in different wave periods (different wavelengths). When wave incidents with angle 0 degree, the moment of diffraction force for pitch in high wave periods (low frequencies) is dominant. The diffraction force for heave in low wave periods (high wave frequencies) is dominant. The phase difference between Froude-Krylov and diffraction forces is important to obtain total wave force.

In offshore, various external forces such as wind force, wave force and impulsive breaking wave force act on offshore structures. Many researches about this forces are published. Kim and Cao(2008) published researche on wave force of vertical cylinder. Kim and Go(2013) performed research on the subgrade reaction by external forces. Among this forces, impulsive breaking force is more massive than other forces, especially. Therefore, the studies about impulsive breaking wave forces have been carried out. Chun and Shim(1999) analyzed dynamic behavior of cylindrical pile subjected to impulsive breaking wave force. In this study, when the impulsive breaking wave force acts on the offshore wind turbine, the subgrade reaction acting on the mono-pile of the offshore wind turbine is calculated by p-y curve. The calculation is carried out to the multi-layered.

A steel-type breakwater that uses a submerged dual horizontal porous plate was originally proposed by Kweon et al. (2005), and its hydrodynamic characteristics and design methodology were investigated in a series of subsequent researches. In particular, Kweon et al. (2011) proposed a method of estimating the vertical uplift force that acts on the horizontal plate, applicable to the design of the pile uplift drag force. However, the difference between the method proposed by Kweon et al. (2011), and the wave force measured at a different time without a phase difference, have not yet been clearly analyzed. In this study, such difference according to the method of estimating the wave force was analyzed, by measuring the wave pressure acting on a breakwater model. The hydraulic model test was conducted in a two-dimensional wave flume of 60.0 m length, 1.5 m height and 1.0 m width. The steepness range of the selected waves is 0.01~0.03, with regular and random signals. 20 pressure gauges were used for the measurement. The analysis results showed that the wave force estimate in the method of Kweon et al. (2011) was smaller than the wave force calculated from the maximum pressure at individual points, under a random wave action. Meanwhile, the method of Goda (1974) that was applied to the horizontal plate produced a smaller wave force, than the method of Kweon et al. (2011). The method of Kweon (2011) was already verified in the real sea test of Kweon et al. (2012), where the safety factor of the pile uplift force was found to be greater than 2.0. Based on these results, it was concluded that the method of estimating the wave force by Kweon et al. (2011) can be satisfactorily used for estimating the uplift force of a pile.
The importance of the impact force on the vertical offshore circular structure member in the surf zone due to the breaking wave has been recognized recently. In this paper characteristics of breaking wave forces and the corresponding estimation procedures for them are investigated. For the characterization of the wave forces, three parts, drag force, inertia force, impact force are categorized and identified, respectively. Among them the impact force is maimly studied and the concise form of the force is proposed with the application scheme for the design of offshore circular structure member. The resulting form porposed here for impact force is well coincided with former research results by other people. Except the impact force, so called Morison equation can be employed for the common offshore structure design. The drag force and inertia force are represented as convertionally for the profile except the breaking part. In the numerical example, for thpical sea condition and the member size, the proposed procedures for the breaking wave forces calculation are demonstrated. It is found that the impact force is the most deminant one comparing with inertia and drag forces in the surf zone.
Recently, artificial rocks, instead of buoys, have been placed on the submerged breakwater to indicate its location. The accurate estimation of wave forces on these rocks is deemed necessary for their stability design. Characteristics of the wave force, however, are expected . to be very complicated because of the occurrence of breaking or post-breaking waves. In this regard, wave forces exerted on an artificial rock have been investigated in this paper. The maximum wave force has been found to strongly dependent on the location and shape of the artificial rock that is placed on the submerged breakwater. The plunging breaker occurs near the loading cram edge of a submerged breakwater, which cause impulsive breaking wave force on the rock. Using the Morison equation, with the velocity and acceleration at the front face of the artificial rock and varying water surface level, it is possible to estimate wave forces, even impulsive breaking wave forces, that are acting on the rock installed on a submerged breakwater. The vertical wave force is also found to depend, significantly, on the buoyant force.

In this study, we investigated wave force distribution at points on a vertical structure of semi-infinite breakwater considering diffraction. Wave forces of monochromatic and random waves on a vertical structure are studied considering diffractions in front and lee side of the breakwater for non-breaking wave condition. We selected width of breakwater are 0 for reference condition. In monochromatic wave case, relative wave force becomes 0 on the head of the breakwater by acting incident wave force and diffracting wave force simultaneously and oscillating patterns of relative wave force occurs based on 1.0 as distance from the head increases. Relative wave force of monochromatic waves decreases as incident wave angle increases. Relative wave force of random waves is defined by using ratio of root mean square and wave force spectrum in this study. The case considering random phase of each wave components are compared to the case which don't consider random phase and both results are almost similar. Relative wave force of random waves is also 0 near the head of the breakwater likewise monochromatic wave. Oscillating pattern of relative wave force of random waves becomes relatively weaker for composition of each wave components as distance from the head increases.
The ship’s safe mooring stability is a principles for the safe cargo handling works at the mooring berth. Today numerous standards, guidelines and recommendations concerning mooring practices, fittings and equipments exist throughout the worldwide maritime industries. In recently, the mooring facilities were constructed as dolphin types at the open sea area apart far from shoreside instead of enclosed coastline area in accordance with increasing ship’s size and for preventing environmental pollution. Therefore the exciting wave condition must be considered as a basic environmental criteria with the wind force and current force for all of the mooring ships at the sea berth facilities. In this study, this added wave force as one of the environmental external forces by using the theoretical formula was applied to the LNG ship in Pyeongtaeg harbor needed the special mooring stability of the sea berth. Through this research, it can be confirmed that wave force is the very important factor in the mooring force and the strength of wave force works much more in the full laden condition than in the lightship condition. And also the wave force changes to non-linear states according to the wave frequency and wave length. In addition, the maximum limit criteria of environmental force of prohibiting the entering ship on the berth and loading works controlled by the port authority concerned of Pyeongtaeg port fully satisfies the condition of the mooring limit force recommended by OCIMF that the safe permitted force of the mooring line have to be within 55 % of MBL.

Taking the cylindrical float of the floating fence of a floating litter collection device as the research object, based on the shallow immersion characteristics of the cylindrical float, the Morison equation is modified, and the interaction between regular waves and the partially immersed horizontal cylindrical float is discussed in combination with scale model test. The results show that the modified Morison equation can accurately predict the wave force of the horizontal cylindrical float and reveal the influence of amplitude, immersion depth and period on the wave force of the cylindrical float. For partially immersed cylindrical floats, the wave force increases with the increase in wave height and decays with the increase in period. The positive value distribution of the wave force is larger than that of the negative direction, and the difference between the positive and negative directions is mainly affected by the immersion depth.
