The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationships between the mixing ratio and water vapor sorption property of charcoal-based loess composites for furniture & building materials with environmental friendly. Charcoal-based loess composite can be easily made by blending method with water. But the composites had much brittle fracture pattern with the increase of charcoal content. That is due to the lack of loess that takes linkage role of composites. In water vapor sorption properties, adsorption ability of charcoal was about six times higher than that of loess. Therefore, vapor sorption ability was maximum at the mixture ratio of charcoal 80% and loess 20%. It is considered that wood charcoal based inorganic composite materials can be used for various purposes as a building interior & exterior and furniture members.
In this study, global positioning system (GPS)-derived precipitable water vapor (PWV) and microwave radiometer (MWR)-measured integrated water vapor (IWV) were compared and their characteristics were analyzed. Comparing those two quantities for two years from August 2009, we found that GPS PWV estimates were larger than MWR IWV. The average difference over the entire test period was 1.1 mm and the standard deviation was 1.2 mm. When the discrepancies between GPS PWV and MWR IWV were analyzed depending on season, the average difference was 0.7 mm and 1.9 mm in the winter and summer months, respectively. Thus, the average difference was about 2.5 times larger in summer than that in winter. However, MWR IWV measurements in the winter months were over-estimated than those in the summer months as the water vapor content got larger. The results of the diurnal analysis showed that MWR IWV was underestimated in the daytime, showing a difference of 0.8 mm. In the early morning hours, MWR IWV has a tendency to be over-estimated, with a difference of 1.3 mm with respect to GPS PWV.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of hydrophilic finish for polyester (PET) fabric and hydrophobic finish for cotton fabric on the water transport and comfort properties. Polyester fabric was treated with 10% sodium hydroxide solution to impart hydrophilicity. Cotton fabric was sprayed with Scotch-gard$^{(R)}$ water and oil repellent finish to impart hydrophobicity. Porosity, air permeability, contact angle, wickability and water vapor transport rate (WVTR) were measured to determine the water transport properties of fabrics. To compare the comfort properties of treated and untreated fabrics, wear test was performed by putting fabric patches on the upper back: stratum corneum water content (SCWC), subjective wettedness and comfort rating were determined. The results were as follows: (1) The contact angle of water on treated polyester fabric was decreased and that of treated cotton fabric was increased. Also, the wickability of treated polyester fabric was increased and the wickability of cotton fabric was decreased. (2) Although each finish did not change porosity, the water vapor transport rate of treated polyester fabric was increased and that of treated cotton fabric was decreased slightly. (3) The results of stratum corneum water content measurements showed good agreement with the results of the contact angle and the wickability, i.e., the better the liquid water transport properties are, the less the stratum corneum water contents were resulted. (4) The realtionship of subjective wettedness or comfort and stratum corneum water content was independent. Therefore, it was concluded that human perception on the subjective wettedness or the comfort is affected by the skin contact of wet fabric rather than by the stratum corneum water content.

In the present study, the effects of film Reynolds number (60∼200) and volumetric content of non-absorbable gases (0∼10%) in water vapor on the absorption process of aqueous LiBr solution were investigated experimentally. The formation of solution film on the horizontal tubes of six rows were observed to be complete for Re>100. Transition film Reynolds number were found to exist above which the Nusselt number and Schmidt number diminishes with solution flow rate. As the concentration of non-absorbable gases increased, mass transfer rate decreased more seriously than heat transfer rate did. The degradation effects of non-absorbable gases seemed to be significant especially when small amount of non-absorbable gases were introduced to the pure water vapor.
This study investigates the fire resistance characteristics of reactive powder concrete according to changes in the cement content per unit area, mixing ratio of metakaolin (MK), and content of polypropylene fiber. A fire test was conducted, and the resulting residual strength characteristics were investigated through flexural and compressive strength measurements, as well as condition rating classification based on visual evaluation. MK effectively reduced the initial high content of calcium hydroxide, thereby reducing the water vapor pressure generated during pyrolysis and slowing spalling. Furthermore, the pore structure and loose tissue were effective for relieving the water vapor pressure in the event of a fire.

A diagnostic study on the summertime air mass thunderstorms occurring in the middle region of South Korea was made by analyzing the data of surface and upper air observations as well as the surface and upper level weather charts. The key parameters used in the present study are the amount of precipitable water below 850 hPa level, the vertical profiles of water vapor content and wind, and both the temperature difference and the equivalent potential temperature difference between 850 hPa and 700 hPa levels. It is found from this study that the summertime air mass thunderstorms in the middle region of South Korea can be classified into two distinct types, type I and type II. The thunderstorms of type I occur under the atmospheric conditions of high moisture content, low vertical wind shear in low levels, and conditional instability between 850 hPa and 700 hPa levels. On the other hand, the thunderstorms of type II occur under the atmospheric conditions of less moisture content, higher wind shear and conditional instability. Furthermore, our study suggests that atmospheric instability and the amount of water vapor below 850 hPa level are complementary in the development of air mass thunderstorms. The complementary nature between these two parameters may be an explanation for the thunderstorm development in the areas of low atmospheric water vapor content such as the plains of eastern Colorado.

The gas hydrates are probably most sensitive to climate change since they are stable only under specific conditions of high pressure and low temperature. One of the main factors responsible for formation of gas hydrates is the saturation of the gases with water vapor. Quantitative phase equilibrium data and understanding of the roles of water component in the phase behavior of the heterogeneous water-hydrocarbon-hydrate mixture are of importance and of engineering value. In this study, the water content of ethylene gas in equilibrium with hydrate and water phases were analyzed by theoretical and experimental methods at temperatures between 274.15 up to 291.75 K and pressures between 593.99 to 8,443.18 kPa. The experimental and theoretical enhancement factors (EF) for the water content of ethylene gas and the fugacity coefficients of water and ethylene in gas phase were determined and compared with each other over the entire range of pressure carried out in this experiment. In order to get the theoretical enhancement factors, the modified Redlich-Kwong equation of state was used. The Peng-Robinson equations and modified Redlich-Kwong equations of state were used to get the fugacity coefficients for ethylene and water in the gas phase. The results predicted by both equations agree very well with the experimental values for the fugacity coefficients of the compressed ethylene gas containing small amount of water, whereas, those of water vapor do not in the ethylene rich gas at high temperature for hydrate formation locus.

For thrust motion of high speed underwater torpedo the special hydro reactive fuels that burns in vapor water and water supply from aboard is used. The main component of this hydro reactive fuel is the powder of active metal (Mg, Al) that can burn in water vapor with large heat generation in the rocket combustion chamber. The thermodynamic analysis of combustion properties of the burning of the particles of these active metal in the vapor water have been carried out. The conception for the possible content variants of the hydro reactive fuels have been discussed using the geometrical and thermodynamic combustion conditions with the basic recommendation for contents of designed hydro reactive fuels in future.

As the GPS signals propagate from the GPS satellites to the receivers on the ground, they are delayed by the atmosphere. The tropospheric delay consists of two components. The hydrostatic (or "dry") component that is dependent on the dry air gasses in the atmosphere and accounts for approximately 90% of the delay. And the "wet" component that depends on the moisture content of the atmosphere and accounts for the remaining effect of the delay. The Zenith Hydrostatic Delay (ZHD) can be calculated from the local surface pressure. The Total Zenith Delay (TZD) will be estimated and the wet component extracted later. Integrated water Vapor (IWV) gives the total amount of water vapor that a signal from the zenith direction would encounter. Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) is the IWV scaled by the density of water. The quality of this PWV has been verified by comparison with radiosonde data(at Osan). We processed data for JULY 2 and JULY 14, 1999 from four stations(Cheju, Kwangju, Suwon, Daegu). We found the coincidence between PWV of the estimations using GPS and PWV of pressing the radiosonde data. The average of the difference between PWV using GPS and PWV using radiosonde was 3.77 mm(Std. = $\pm$0.013 mm) and 2.70 mm(Std. = $\pm$0.0011 mm) at Suwon & Kwangju.
In this study, the hydrogen reduction behavior of ball-milled NiO nanopowder was investigated depending on the partial pressure of water vapor. The hydrogen reduction behavior was analyzed by thermogravimetry and hygrometry under heating to 873 K in hydrogen. In order to change the partial pressure of the water vapor, the dew point of hydrogen was controlled in the range of 248 K~293 K by passing high-purity hydrogen through a saturator that contained water. Interestingly, with the increase in the dew point of the hydrogen atmosphere, the first step of the hydrogen reduction process decreased and the second step gradually increased. After the first step, a pore volume analysis revealed that the pore size distribution in the condition with a higher water vapor pressure shifted to a larger size, whereas the opposite appearedat a lower pressure. Thus, it was found that the decrease in the pore volume during the chemical reaction controlled process at a dew point of 248 K caused a reduction in retardation in the diffusion controlled process.
