  • This paper presents the experimental results on the properties of the cement mortar with polycarboxylate-type superplasticizers PCA) which were synthesized by different mole ratio of methoxypoly(ethyleneglycol)monomethacrylate (MPEGMAA) and methacrylic acid (MAA) and by different length of polyethyleneoxide (PEO). As the PEO chain was longer and mole ratio of [MPEGMAA]/[MAA] was lower, the fluidity of cement mortar was better. The setting time of mortar with PCA was retarded, and as PEO chain was shorter and [MPEGMAA]/[MAA] was lower, it was more retared. Espeacially, when the molecular weight of MPEGMAA was 475(repeat unit of ethylene oxide=l0), the degree of retardation was the highest of them. The surface tensions of PCA solutions were lower than that of water due to the effect of PEO chain, and also the pore size distribution of cement mortar was influenced by it. The pores in cement mortar with PCA at 28 days were macropores in the range of 7 to 370$\mu\textrm{m}$, and accordingly, the densities and compressive strengths of mortar were lower than those of OPC mortar.

  • Conductivity is an important thermal property which governs heat transfer in a solid medium. Generally, the determination of conductivity in concrete is very difficult, because concrete is a heterogeneous material composed of cement, water, aggregate, et cetera and time dependent material of which properties change with curing age. In this study, influencing factors on thermal conductivity of concrete are quantitatively investigated by QTM-D3, a conductivity tester developed in Japan. Then, a prediction equation of thermal conductivity of concrete is suggested from the regression analysis of test results. To consider the factors influencing thermal conductivity of concrete, mortar, and cement paste, seven testing variables (age, amount of cement, types of admixtures, amount of coarse aggregate, fine aggregate ratio, temperature, and humidity condition) of the specimens are used. According to the experimental results, the amount of coarse aggregate and humidity condition of specimen are the main factors affecting the conductivity of concrete. Meanwhile, the conductivity of mortar and cement paste is strongly affected by the amount of cement and types of admixtures. However, the curing age has minor effect on the conductivity variation. Finally, the prediction formula of concrete conductivity as a function of aggregate amount, fine aggregate ratio, specimen temperature, and humidity condition is developed.

  • Recently, the coal ash production has been increased by increase of consumption of electric power. So it is important to find a reclaimed place and treatment utility for treating coal ash. Accordingly, in this study we performed an experimental study to compare and analyze the properties of concrete according to W/C and bottom ash replacement ratio. As a result of this study, it was found that the bleeding content was decreased according to decrease of W/C and increase of bottom ash replacement ratio, and the compressive strength of concrete using bottom ash was similar to plain concrete(replacement ratio 0%).

  • Recently, as interest in environmental issues increases, minimizing carbon dioxide generated during cement manufacturing is a problem to be solved. In order to solve such a problem, it is required to use an industrial by-product of recycled aggregate, blast furnace slag, and circulating fluidized bed boiler fly ash to replace it on the basis of geopolymer(=cementless). This study examines the characteristics of eco-friendly artificial stone according to the mixing ratio of geopolymer-based recycled aggregate. As a result of the experiment, when the addition rate of the alkali stimulant was 15% and the mixing ratio of the circulating aggregate was 70%, the flexural strength and compressive strength were the highest. Density and water absorption decreased as density of circulating aggregates increased and water absorption increased. However, when the mixing ratio of the circulating aggregate exceeded 70%, the flexural strength and compressive strength decreased. Therefore, in order to obtain strengths meeting the KS standards, the mixing ratio of recycled aggregate was set to 70%, and artificial stone was manufactured using industrial by-products.

  • The corrosion potential in concrete varies greatly with exposure and concrete mix conditions. In this study, RC (Reinforcement Concrete) samples were prepared considering cover depth, chloride concentration, and W/C(water to cement) ratio as variables, and HCP(Half Cell Potential) was measured, which evaluated comparative potential between embedded steel and concrete surface. In addition, OCP(Open Circuit Potential) was measured using buried steel and CE(Counter Electrode). Agar and NaOH solution were used as ion exchange materials and Hg/HgO was used for RE(Reference Electrode), which was more sensitive to temperature than HCP. Among the influencing factors, the exposure period and chloride concentration had a relatively greater effect than cover depth and w/c ratio. Additionally, the entire measured HCP and OCP showed a clearly linear relationship with increasing cover depth and w/c ratio. Through multiple regression analysis, the relationship between HCP and OCP was quantified, and an improved correlation was obtained with temperature effect.

  • Recently, lots of researches on concrete with high volume mineral admixtures such as ground granulated blast-furnace slag(GGBS) have been carried out to reduce greenhouse gas. The high volume GGBS concrete has advantages such as low heat, high durability, but it has a limitation in practical field application, especially low strength development in early ages. This study investigated the compressive strength and hydration characteristics of high performanc and volume GGBS cement pastes with low water to binder ratio. The effects of fineness($4,330cm^2/g$, $5,320cm^2/g$, $6,450cm^2/g$, $7650cm^2/g$) and replacement(35%, 50%, 65%, 80%) of GGBS on the compressive strength, setting and heat of hydration were analyzed. Experimental results show that the combination of high volume slag cement paste with low water to binder ratio and high fineness GGBS powder can improve the compressive strength at early ages.

  • SBR, polyurethane, acryl and epoxy latex were separately mixed with ethylene -vinylacetate emulsion(EVA) in the range of $0{\sim}50wt%$. For the mixtures, the various physical properties such as defoamerability, mechanical property, and water resistance were experimentally examined. The excellent defoamer was BYK-021 and the appropriate use of it was 0.3 phr for the total components. The shrinkage of compounds was influenced by the compatability of resins and the formation of voids. The mechanical properties was related to the cohesive force of resin particles, the coagulation of cement particles and the co-bonding of resin particles with cement particles. Mixing latex separately showed better properties then non-mixing in the shrinkage ratio, flexural strength, adhesive strength, and impact strength. The water resistance of composites mixed with cement was worse than that of EVA resin.

  • In this article, poly methyl triethoxy silane was compounded with an inorganic waterproof admixture at a certain ratio to improve the performance of gypsum products; a new type of high-efficiency compound water-proofing additive was also investigated. Furthermore, the waterproof mechanism and the various properties on the hardened gypsum plaster were investigated in detail by XRD and SEM. The results show that the intenerate coefficient of gypsum plaster increased to more than 0.9; the water absorbing rate decreased to less than 10 %. Both the bending strength and the compressive strength of gypsum plaster increased by various degrees. The intenerate coefficient reached a maximum value of 0.73 and the strength of the samples showed almost no change when 5% cement alone was added. In this new type of the high-efficiency compound with waterproof additive, the optimal technological parameters for formulas were obtained to be: 5% cement, 18 % mineral powder, and 0.8% poly methyl triethoxy silane, to compound gypsum plaster. Meanwhile, the production of high performance gypsum as a building material has become possible.

  • Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) is an ultra high strength and high ductility cement-based composite material and has shown some promise as a new generation concrete in construction field. It is characterized by a silica fume-cement mixture with very low water-binder (w/b) ratio and very dense microstructure, which is formed using various powders such as cement, silica fume and very fine quartz sand (0.15~0.4mm) instead of ordinary coarse aggregate. However, the unit weight of cement in RPC is as high as 900~1,000 kg/㎥ due to the use of very fine sand instead of coarse aggregate, and a large volume of relatively expensive silica fume as a high reactivity pozzolan is also used, which is not produced in Korea and thus must be imported. Since the density of RPC has a heavy weight at 2.5~3.0 g/㎤. In this study, the modified RPC was made by the combination of ternary pozzolanic materials such as blast furnace slag and fly ash, silica fume in order to economically and practically feasible for Korea's situation. The fire resistance and structural behavior of the modified RPC exposed to high temperature were investigated.

  • Purpose: With the aging of the population, the attack rate of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture is in the increasing trend, and percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) is the most commonly performed standardized treatment. Although there is a research report of the excellence of usefulness of the SPECT/CT examination in terns of the exact diagnosis before and after the procedure, the bone cement material used in the procedure influences the image quality by forming an artifact in the CT image. Therefore, the objective of the research lies on evaluating the effect the bone cement gives to a SPECT/CT image. Materials and Methods: The images were acquired by inserting a model cement to each cylinder, after setting the background (3.6 kBq/mL), hot cylinder (29.6 kBq/mL) and cold cylinder (water) to the NEMA-1994 phantom. It was reconstructed with Astonish (Iterative: 4 Subset: 16), and non attenuation correction (NAC), attenuation correction (AC+SC-) and attenuation and scatter correction (AC+SC+) were used for the CT correction method. The mean count by each correction method and the count change ratio by the existence of the cement material were compared and the contrast recovery coefficient (CRC) was obtained. Additionally, the bone/soft tissue ratio (B/S ratio) was obtained after measuring the mean count of the 4 places including the soft tissue(spine erector muscle) after dividing the vertebral body into fracture region, normal region and cement by selecting the 20 patients those have performed PVP from the 107 patients diagnosed of compression fracture. Results: The mean count by the existence of a cement material showed the rate of increase of 12.4%, 6.5%, 1.5% at the hot cylinder of the phantom by NAC, AC+SC- and AC+SC+ when cement existed, 75.2%, 85.4%, 102.9% at the cold cylinder, 13.6%, 18.2%, 9.1% at the background, 33.1%, 41.4%, 63.5% at the fracture region of the clinical image, 53.1%, 61.6%, 67.7% at the normal region and 10.0%, 4.7%, 3.6% at the soft tissue. Meanwhile, a relative count reduction could be verified at the cement adjacent part at the inside of the cylinder, and the phantom image on the lesion and the count increase ratio of the clinical image showed a contrary phase. CRC implying the contrast ratio and B/S ratio was improved in the order of NAC, AC+SC-, AC+SC+, and was constant without a big change in the cold cylinder of the phantom. AC+SC- for the quantitative count, and AC+SC+ for the contrast ratio was analyzed to be the highest. Conclusion: It is considered to be useful in a clinical diagnosis if the application of AC+SC+ that improves the contrast ratio is combined, as it increases the noise count of the soft tissue and the scatter region as well along with the effect of the bone cement in contrast to the fact that the use of AC+SC- in the spine SPECT/CT examination of a PVP performed patient drastically increases the image count and enables a high density of image of the lesion(fracture).
