  • This study was carried out to analyse the landslide characteristics by ground investigation, borehole image processing system, field seismic test, laboratory test and ground stability analysis at the landsliding area occurred in Maeri, Sangdong-myeon, Gimhaesi, Gyeongsangnam-do. Region I needs to install data logger system to monitor a land displacement during the heavy rainfall events because the region can be liable to occur the land slide by land creeping. It is needed to restore rapidly, if the land displacement occurs in Region I. Region II needs to monitor and repair because of the possibility of slope failure by long-term soil loss. Region III needs constructions to remove ground runoff and ground water to be infiltrated from talus. Region IV where is a stable region, needs to be protected from land cutting or other man-made damage.

  • The absorption spectra of synthesis of long chain fatty acid containing azobenzene start from p-(p'-hydroxy phenyl azo)-benzoic acid was investigated by ultraviolet spectrophotometery in chloroform solvent at the various temperature. In addition, The pressure-area of the water-air interface was obtained and the LB film was fabricated onto a quartz slide and quartz crystal by conventional Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) method. The UV absorption spectra of Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) film on quartz slide and spectrum of monolayer formed on quartz crystal have been measured. Long chain fatty acid containing azobenzene are induced phtoisomerization by the application of u. v. and visible light irradiation alternatively the reversibility of phtoisomerization was more clear difference when the number of $C_{n}$ increased but, not so good at $C_{14}-azo$. At the pressure-area isotherms, the value of surface pressure increment were decreased when the number of $C_{n}$ increased. A surface pressure of 20mN/m was obtained as a proper one for a film deposition. The photoisomerization at LB films were induced by application of UV and visible light irradiation alternatively. So the LB film of long chain fatty acid containing azobenzene has possibility to being applied to functional molecular devices such as photomemory and light switching.

  • Benthic attached diatoms (BADs), a major primary producer in lotic stream and river ecosystems are micro-sized organisms and require a highly magnified microscopic technique in the observation work. Thus, it is often not easy to ensure accuracy and precision in both qualitative and quantitative analyses. This study proposed a new technique applicable to improve quality control of aquatic ecosystem monitoring and assessment using BADs. In order to meet the purpose of quality control, we developed a permanent mounting slide technique which can be used for both qualitative and quantitative analyses simultaneously. We designed specimens with the combination of grid on both cover and slide glasses and compared their efficiency. As a result of observation and counting of BADs, the slide glass designed with the color-lined grid showed the highest efficiency compared to other test conditions. We expect that the method developed in this study could be effectively used to analyze BADs and contributed to improve the quality control in aquatic ecosystem health monitoring and assessment.

  • A custom micro-PIV optics assembly has been used to measure the flow fold inside a T-junction of a microchannel. The micro-PIV system consists of microscope objectives of various magnifications, a dichroic cube, and an 8-bit CCD camera. Fluorescent particles of diameters 620 nm have been used with a Nd:YAG laser and color filters. A programmable syringe pump with Teflon tubings were used to inject particle-seeded distilled water into the channel at flow rates of 2.0, 4.0, 6.0 mL/hr. The micro-channels are fabricated with PDMS with a silicon mold, then O$_{2}$ -ion bonded onto a slide glass. Results show differences in flow characteristics and resolution according to fluid injection rates, and magnifications, respectively. The results include PIV data with vector-to-vector distances of 2 $\mu$m with 32 pixel-square interrogation windows at 50$\%$ overlap.

  • A simple preparation method on creating superhydrophobic surface using non-aligned carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was demonstrated. Superhydrophobic CNT thin films were prepared by doping a sonicated mixture of CNTs and chloroform onto a glass slide. Water contact angles of the CNT thin films were measured using a contact angle goniometer. The thin films were characterized using laser microscope and scanning electron microscope. Experimental results revealed that the highest average contact angle of $162{\pm}2^{\circ}$ was achieved when the films' thickness was $1.628{\mu}m$. The superhydrophobic surface was stable as the contact angle only receded from $162{\pm}2$ to $157{\pm}2^{\circ}$ after 10 min under normal atmospheric condition.

  • Because using LB method, result that produce Arachidic acid and Stearic acid LB film and measure the accumulation characteristic and electrical characteristic is as following. Organic monolayers of surface of the water compression each 9 layer's LB film to slide glass and manufactured MIM device compressing molecular film only. Could confirm that accumulation was good seeing as absorption coefficient and SEM picture, AFM picture that prevent manufactured LB films. Formation of domain of coexistence form that prevent LB film is indefinite and distinction of border side was not clear, and could know that roughness appears greatly. Obtained current by applied voltage could know that is proportional almost, though Arachidic acid appeared as bulk of current that happen in equaler certification voltage than Stearic acid is less, this alkyl chain longer Arachidic acid that serving relations special quality is superior know can .

  • This paper describes a general method for the design of variable structure Model-Following Control systems (VSMFC). This design concept is developed using the theory of variable structure systems and slide mode. The feasibility and the advantages of the method are illustrated by applying it to a 1000 MWe Boiling Water Reactor. The control is studied in the range of 85 - 90 % of rated power for load-following control. A set of 12 nonlinear differential eq. are used to simulate the total plant. A 6th order linear model has been developed from these equations at 85% of rated power. The obtained controller is shown by simulations to be able to compensate for a plant parameter variation over a wide power range.

  • Aquatic oligochaetes were investigated from a small amount of sediment sampled from the Jungnang Stream, an urban stream in Seoul, Korea, in November 2012. Sorted oligochaetes were observed under a light microscope in a drop of carbonated water, and then preserved in 70% ethanol. Some specimens were slide mounted using glycerin and Eupharal. As a result, the following 12 species were identified including 8 new Korean records, Bothrioneurum vejdoskyanum Stolc, Branchiodrilus hortensis (Stephenson), Chaetogaster cristalinus Vejdosky, Nais communis Piguet, Nais pardalis Piguet, Dero obtusa d'Udekem, Piguetiella denticulata Liang, and Haemonais waldvogeli Brescher and 4 additional known species, Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri Cleparede, Branchiura sowerbyi Beddard, Chaetogaster diastrophus (Gruithuisen), and Stylaria fossularis Leidy. This study shows how freshwater oligochaetes are diverse even in urban streams in Korea, if a proper sampling and examining method is employed.

  • To study the effects of hormones and neurotransmitters, zebrafish (Danio rerio) are a great substitute for water fleas (Daphnia). The zebrafish is an ideal vertebrate model because it has a transparent embryonic stage. It is easy to get consistent heart rate measurements in embryonic zebrafish when treating them with hormones and neurotransmitters. To observe the heart rate, two to three embryonic zebrafish are anesthetized with MS-222 and then transferred to a glass slide specifically designed for heart observation and easy application of various chemicals. After the heartbeats are counted for 2 minutes, apply either 100 µM epinephrine or 100 µM acetylcholine to the zebrafish. Wait 5, 10, and 20 minutes and count the heartbeats at each time point. All procedures are repeated three times. The final results are averaged and analyzed by using statistical methods. The above method which we have developed is practical enough for high school students to measure the heart rate in zebrafish under various conditions and to analyze the data set.
