  • Electrical conductivity have been measured as function of temperature in MgO.$P_2O_5$ glasses containing small amounts of water. Conduction was due to the contribution of $H^+$ and the mobility of protons in the glass increased linearly with increasing its concentration. The conductivity was pro-portional to the square of the proton concentration and the activation energy decreased linerly with increasing logarithm of the proton concentration, And $$\sigma$_0$ and $A_0$ was independent of the proton concentration but not on glass compositions.

  • Cullet Quality Control in auto glass bottle factory is the most important in recent days because of the increasing cost of materials in glass bottle. Since the composition of plate glass cullet is similar, the cullet quality using plate cullet in glass bottle factory is easily controlled. In addition to this, the price of plate glass cullet is so low that the cost reduction can be achieved. If the ratio of plate glass cullet and gush is over 25%, the liquidity of glass water become worse, which is caused by different compositions and viscosity of the components. As a results, Furnace bottom temperature becomes low and glass water becomes inhomogeneous. Thus production efficiency of glass bottle becomes low because of increasing devitrification in Dead Corner part in glass melting furnace. Three experimental methods – (1) increasing melting temperature, (2) using Booster, (3) using bubbler – were performed to increase the furnace bottom temperature and glass water homogeneity. The amounts of plate glass cullet was able to increase up to 90%, 70% and 60% without any devitrification using booster, bubbler and the method of glass melting temperature increase from $1480^{\circ}C$ to $1560^{\circ}C$ respectively. It is not possible to increase the glass melting temperature without the reduction of furnace operation time and the increase of fuel cost. The booster process has disadvantage of much electric energy consumption. Since the bubbler process uses physical convection of melting glass based on compression air, the homogeneity of molten glass is not so good as that of booster process but it can reduce the cost of glass bottle.

  • In this study, the insulation performance of thermal insulation materials such as glass wool, polyetylene and flexible lastomeric foam according to water vapor permeance was estimated by using experimental correlation equation. The results showed the conductivity increment of flexible lastomeric foam which has very low-permeability (${\le}0.15[ng/{\cdot}s{\cdot}Pa]\;or\;{\mu}{\ge}1,000$) is about 50% lower than that of glass wool with the lapse of ten years. The conclusion is that moisture inevitably accumulated in permeable Insulations reduces insulation performance and also accelerates surface condensation in the case of cold water system.

  • Ocean dumping of sewage sludge is banned. Therefore, it is needed to develop alternative treatment method. Sewage sludge and waste glass are used to prepare lightweight brick. Large amount of energy is consumed to prepare building material, because of its high preparation temperature, or above $1,200^{\circ}C$. We study to prepare lightweight brick, using sewage sludge and waste glass as raw materials in this research. Lightweight brick was made at low temperature of below $800^{\circ}C$ to reduce $CO_2$ emission by geopolymer technique. Calcination temperature, mixing ratio of sewage sludge/waste glass and water glass/water were discussed to evaluate their effect on the brick prepared. In this study, the optimal conditions for preparing bricks was $750^{\circ}C$ of firing temperature, 1.5 of mixing ratio for water glass/water and 10 : 90 wt% of sewage sludge/waste glass. At this condition, compressive strength and specific gravity of brick prepared were 5.1 MPa and 0.46, respectively. These values satisfy the criteria on a lightweight brick.

  • The present work proposed a newly developed fluidized bed-type psychrometer that could be applicable to the high temperature and contaminant gases. The psychrometer is a device that test gas passes through the water in a glass bottle as a bubbly flow to obtain the adiabatic saturation temperature. A fluidized bed-type psychrometer was made and its characteristics were compared with the Assmann Psychrometer. The characteristic time was in the order of a hundred seconds, and decreased for the decrease of the mass of water and the increase of the air flow rate. The air flow rate and the insulation of the glass bottle were definitely important in the accurate measurement of the wet bulb temperature. The error in wet bulb temperature became less than 5 percent of the difference of dry and wet bulb temperatures if the air velocity in the glass bottle was greater than 1.5m/s.

  • 128 freshly extracted human molars were used to study the interaction between dentinal smear layer removal with various agents, and the shear bond strength of a light cured glass ionomer cement to dentin. It was proposed that the removal of smear layers using acidic cleaners followed by incorporation of Fe mordant with dentin could enhanced the infiltration of monomer component in light curing glass ionomer cement and resulted in a high bond strength. For the first treatment process for removal of smear layers on the surfaces of dentin, 50 % citric acid, 10% maleic acid and 10 % phosphoric acid were used, and for the second treatment process, 15% ferric chloride, 6.8% ferric oxalate or 30% potassium oxalate were used. Distilled water was used as a control. After double sequential treatment on dentin, a light curing glass ionomer cement was bonded to dentin. After being immersed in water at 31'C for 24 hours, shear bond strengths were measured Instron testing machine(Model No.4202, USA). Surface changes were also observed using SEM (Hitachi, S-2300, Japan) after treatment process with each agents. The following conclusions were drawn : 1. Dentin surface cleaned with maleic acid and treated with ferric oxalate showed the highest bond strength with light curing glass ionomer cement. 2. Bond strengths of glass ionomer cement to dentin treated with maleic acid or citric acid were the highest, and that treated with phosphoric acid showed the lowest. 3. The effect of ferric oxalate on shear bond strength to dentin was always higher than that of ferric chloride. 4. The smear layers were clearly removed and the orifices of dentinal tubules were opened widely by the citric acid, maleic acid and phosphoric acid. 5. The orifices of dentinal tubules opened after using the first solution were closed with the treatment of ferric chloride. 6. The precipitate like crystals were formed on dentin surfaces and tubules, but a significant decrease in bond strength of glass ionomer cement to dentin surface treated with potassium oxalate.

  • In this paper, two different experiments, namely, salt water spray and salt water immersion, were performed to reproduce the contact of composites with the seawater for three kinds of woven fabric composite material systems which would be used for the WIG(wing in ground effect)craft. After aging 140 days in the salt water environment, material properties of carbon/epoxy and glass/epoxy composite such as tensile, compressive and shear stiffness and strength, and inter-laminar shear strength (ILSS) were measured. By comparing baseline material properties with degraded ones, the effects of the salt water environment on the composite mechanical properties were evaluated. From the experiments, it was confirmed that the difference in aging conditions had very small influence on composite properties. And it was found that tensile strength of carbon/epoxy composites showed little degradation, but much more degradation was observed in glass/epoxy composites. And large degradations on matrix dominant properties were observed. The salt water could damage the fiber-matrix interface, matrix properties and the glass fiber.

  • This paper deals with the fatigue properties of chopped strand glass mat/polyester composite to understand the effect of water absorption on fatigue behavior of GFRP. The fatigue crack in the both no water and a water absorption materials initiated at the initial of cycle. Thereafter, it was divided with two regions that one decreased with the crack extension and the other increased with the crack extension. The absorption of distilled water degrades the bond strength between fiber and matrix, there, by the tendency of fiber pull-out is increased in perpendicular to crack growth deirection and the debonding of fibers increased to the place which is parallel to crack growth direction. Therefore, the reduction of fatigue strength was caused by these factors.

  • There is a problem to be solved for improvement of durability and safety for concrete When the waterproofing and anticorrosive work of main concrete are design, the material a of construction need to be correctly applied to appropriate circumstance conditions. Epoxy mostly been used for concrete water tank structure. Lately, lots of subjects on adaption res in mortar for waterproofing and anticorrosive are under discussion. Then, we attempt to approach by evaluating and comparing every capabilities with waterproofing materials in this experiment. Capability evaluation items include the bond age and curing conditions, the bond strength after accelerated weathering test and fret impact resistance, a mount of water, seepage quan Through the experiment analysis, we found that waterproofingtity, drinking water chemicals resistance. and anticorrosive resin mortar used with glass fiber cloth, inorgar material is dominantly superior to other waterproofing materials. According to this paper, we suggest the resin mortar as a new surface treatment material water tank structure.
