  • a-C:H films were coated on windows of mobile telephone by RF plasma chemical vapor deposition equipment made in our company. Thickness of the coatings is about 0.7 micrometers and they have high hardness, low friction coefficient, good adhesion, high optical transparency and chemical inertness. Knoop hardness of the diamond-like carbon films on glass substrate is 2328 kg/mm$^2$. The adherence between films and substrate is good and shows to be 69 N by scratching test. The optical performance is improved obviously owing to coat the film on it. The index of the coated windows is 2.5, transmission of visible light is larger than 90%, and transmission of ultraviolet light decreases by 30% and the ultraviolet light can be obstructed obviously. The coated glass also has self-clean effect and decontamination ability. The films have hydrophobic character and the soakage angle of water drop is larger than 90 degrees. The windows have fog-proof ability owing to eliminate the capillary phenomena in the inner surface. The physics and chemical properties of the coated windows are steady. Study indicates that the performance of a-C:H coated mobile phone windows are improved notably on wear-resistance, corrosion-proof and optical properties and it is excellent mobile windows protective coatings.

  • Fiber reinforced shotcrete began to be used in tunnel constructions because it facilitates and expedites the construction process, and improves reinforcement properties. As one of the most widely used forms of shotcrete used in tunneling, steel fiber reinforced shotcrete offers excellent strength and ductility and allows quick reinforcement. However, steel fibers tend to lump together in cement matrix, and low levels of water and acid resistance cause corrosion in steel fiber, resulting in cracks and delamination. In particular, rebound and backlash of steel fiber is significantly increased during steel fiber reinforced shotcrete construction, compromising the flexural toughness and quality of shotcrete. In order to resolve the problems associated with steel fiber reinforced shotcrete and improve the application, durability, and cost-effectiveness of shotcrete, this paper proposes methods for manufacturing and constructing tunnels with multiple polyamide fiber reinforced shotcrete. We performed experiments to evaluate the performance of the proposed shotcrete, and the experimental results indicate that the multiple polyamide fiber reinforced shotcrete proposed in this paper offers outstanding performance that meets various construction design criteria.

  • In a study on the development of Cu-based sintered friction materials, the specimens pressed with various compacting pressures $(3-6 ton/cm^2/)$ have been evaluated to find the optimum condition of compacting pressure. As compacting pressure increased up to $(5 ton/cm^2/)$, mechanical properties such as density, hardness, bending strength, wear and coefficient of friction, etc. improved remarkably, but up to 6 ton/cm$^{2}$, decreased slightly because of traps of gases and water vapors in specimen. Disk assembly composed of 12 pieces of Cu-based friction materials has been compared with one of asbestos-and nonasbestos-based friction materials. In dynamic and driving tests to find burst spin strength, corrosion area rate and friction properties, etc., Cu-based sintered friction materials showed better properties than the others, especially in severe conditions because oxides such as $Cu_2O; and; SnO_2$ in the friction surface of friction materials were formed.

  • Joints on concrete road prevent failure and crack securing the moderate space when concrete slab expands and contracts as a function of varying temperature throughout all seasons. Filling joint sealants in joints can prevent the interruption of slab movement and failure due to the infiltration of alien substances, and also can prevent crack caused by freezing and thawing and Dowel bar corrosion resulted from water - rainfall and snowfall infiltration through the inside the pavement. They lead to the improvement of the commonality of road. This paper evaluates physical strength, weatherability and deicer resistance of a two-year aged sample from joint on concrete road and its virgin sample. It was found that there are significant differences in aspects of weatherability and adhesive force between the tested sample and silicon materials.

  • Fibers of ZrO2-SiO2 system were prepared from the hydrolysis and condensation of Si(OC2H5)4 and Zr(OnC3H7)4 with different H2O/alkoxide molar ratios. It was found that fibers could be drawn in the viscosity range of 1~100 poise from HCl catalyzed solutions with lower water contents of the mole ratio H2O/alkoxide, r 2. The fibrous gels were converted into the corresponding oxide glass fibers by heating at 80$0^{\circ}C$. Mechanical test was performed on E, A and 20ZrO2-80SiO2 glass fibers reinforced cement in order to investigate the flexural strength. The flexural strength value of 20ZrO2-80SiO2 glass fibers reinforced cement was greater than those of E and A. The chemical durability of the fibers in alkaline solutions increased with ZrO2 content. The weight loss due to the corrosion by 2N-NaOH solutions at $25^{\circ}C$ for 160 hours was about 0.31$\times$10-2 mg/dm2 for the 20ZrO2-80SiO2 glass fibers, which was superior to that of Vycor glass.

  • The chemical durability of six alumino fluorophosphate glass samples studied. The composition of glass varied with MgF2 content from 0 to 12.5wt% in 30AlF3-2MgF2-(50-x)MF2-10P2O5(M; Sr, Ba). Samples were maintained in distilled water at 95$^{\circ}C$ from 1 to 100hrs. Weight loss, pH change and leached elements of the solution, and IR transmittance of samples were measured and also their surfaces were observed by SEM. Chemical durabilities of these samples were increased with increasing MgF2 contents. The following various properties were increased rapidly up to 10 hours after that changed slowly. The sample after leached at 95$^{\circ}C$ during 100 hrs showed 0.5mg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in weight loss. The pH of leached solution is 6.2 and concentration of Mg, Sr, and Ba element of that leached solution were 24,115 and 125 ppm, respectively. The infrared transmittance of leached sample decreased 7% compare to unleached one. And also SEM photomicrograph and EDS analysis showed that the corrosion of samples were decreased with respect to increasing MgF2 content.

  • Numerical investigation has been conducted to figure out flow behavior and pressure drop characteristics of spirally corrugated steel pipe which is widely used in civil, industrial and agricultural field owing to many advantages such as good corrosion resistance and durability, strength, easy and quick installation. Also the poly-ethylene coating spirally corrugated steel pipe has the long life under condition of sea water immerged. In the present study, flow behavior in the spirally corrugated pipe and influence of P/d/sub h/(ratio of wave pitch to hydraulic diameter) to pressure drop are investigated by CFD with various Reynolds number. And also friction factor is estimated by pressure drop obtained by flow analysis. According to computation results, the flow runs spirally up and down along the spiral corrugation in the vicinity of wall, but the effect of spiral corrugation disappears in core region of pipe. As P/d/sub h/ becomes small, more pressure drop occurs in spirally corrugated Pipe. Besides, friction factor augmentation becomes much larger as Re increases. In case of p/d/sub h/=0.38, Pressure drop and friction factor of spirally corrugated pipe are about four times larger than smooth pipe at Re: 1.46×10/sup 6/.

  • A simulation method to estimate microstructure dependent material properties and their influence on performance for a honeycomb structured SiC heating element has been established. Electrical and thermal conductivities of a porous SiC sample were calculated by solving a current continuity equation. Then, the results were used as input parameters for a finite element analysis package to predict temperature distribution when the heating element was subjected to a DC bias. Based on the simulation results, a direction of material development for better heating efficiency was found. In addition, a modified metal electrode scheme to decelerate corrosion kinetics was proposed, by which the durability of the water heating system was greatly improved.

  • Part I of this study was devoted to the electrical accelerated chloride diffusion in mortars. In this second part, natural chloride diffusion has been investigated for four types of mortars under exposure to a 0.5 mol/L NaCl solution for a period of up to 35 days. Two different types of sand were used for the production of test samples: siliceous sand (used as a reference) and limestone sand (used in this study). The effect of water to cement ratio and exposure time on the diffusion coefficients of mortars was also investigated. In this study, the total and free chloride content and penetration depth of mortar were measured after immersion, and Fick's second law of diffusion was fitted to the experimental data to determine the diffusion coefficient. Their results show that the use of crushed limestone sand in mortar had a positive effect on the chloride resistance. The apparent diffusion coefficient in all specimens was smaller than that in siliceous sand mortar. However, the chloride penetration of these mortars was increased as exposure time progressed.
