  • In this paper, thermite and gas pressure weldings have been used to join rails in-track and analyzed as functions of hardness and wear characteristics. The wear rate of thermite welded rail is low compared with that of gas pressure welded rail, which is tested in a pin-on-disk wear tester. The hardness of thermite welded materials is relatively high and narrow distributed between three zones, welded part, thermally affected zone, and a base matrix. Wear of a welded rail may be a major factor in railroad maintenance costs and failures at the rail-rail butt joint.

  • This paper presents friction and wear related results of thermite and gas pressure welded rails under various environmental contact conditions. A welded rail which is fabricated by thermite welding and gas pressure one has been tested over full range of test conditions in a pin-on-disk wear testing machine. The results show that the friction coefficient and wear rates of a welded rail are heavily dependent on the contact pressures and sliding environments for two welding methods such as thermite and gas pressure weldings.

  • Underground pipe is an instrument to transport rapidly and safely a lot of fluid like gas, oil, water supply and drain system. It acts like blood vessels of human body in a modern industry. As in this country, the pipe facilities have been constructing since 1970's. The pipes constructed for a long time ago are already starting to reveal the problem like corrosion and most of them are built underground. So for companies, the managing of the underground pipes is very hard because it needs high technology and a lot of money. So we made a new robot system to repair and maintain the pipes at a low price. This new robot is devised using pressing wall type to work inside 700${\sim}$900(mm) size pipe. And it has good carrying and working power.

  • Determination of weld-induced residual stress has been an important issue in nuclear power industry because several failures were reported in dissimilar metal weld parts due to primary water stress corrosion cracking. In this context, a couple of remarkable round robin analyses were conducted to quantify the welding simulation variables and to establish optimized numerical analysis process. The purpose of the present research is to introduce welding simulation results for a safety and relief nozzle, which has a dissimilar metal weld part as well as a similar metal weld part. First, finite element analyses are carried out to calculate residual stresses at the inside of nozzle considering only dissimilar metal welding.   • In this paper we observe the protective coatings carbon for steel, aluminium and titanium alloys were obtained by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) under unipolar and bipolar conditions. The anticorrosion properties and the thermal stability of the surface layers were studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization. It was found that the application of the bipolar PEO mode enables one to synthesize the surface layers that possess enhanced anticorrosion and mechanical properties. results of research of antiscale PEO - coatings for marine power equipment are presented. The combined method of prevention of corrosion and scale formation was tested at the industrial plants of Russian Shipyard "Zvezda".

  • A performance of pilot scale biofilter was investigated for the treatment of odorous waste gas. The system treated 508.7 $m^3h^{-1}$ of waste air with amine and ammonia concentrations ranging up to 0.06 $N-gm^{-3}$ Over the four month study, its elimination capacity was demonstrated up to 6.37 $N-gm^{-3}h^{-1}$ and its removal efficiency was 100%. Differ to lab scale biofilter, It is difficult to maintain the proper temperature of reactor because of low external temperature. Experiments were performed indicating various problem such as sudden system shut down, unstable pump, water addition malfunction and corrosion of reactor. However, pilot scale biofilter was stable when treatment of odorous waste gas.

  • Soil resistivity has a relation with the corrosion of underground buried structures as a water pipeline, gas pipeline and power cable casing. And it's a main factor in the cathodic protection and earth design. This paper presents soil resistivity maps each depth through measuring the soil resistivity in Kwachon, Kyonggi province. Also examines the soil resistivity characteristics on a change of temperature, moisture content and ion content in the laboratory.

  • Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) pressure vessels are made of forged low alloy steel plates internally clad with an austenitic stainless steel by welding to improve anti-corrosion properties. They display a characteristic behavior of dissimilar metal weld interface during post weld heat treatment (PWHT) and service at high temperature and pressure. In this Study, Metallugical structure of weld interface of SA 508 Class 3 forged steel clad with 309L, Austenitic stainless steel after PWHT was investigated. To estimate the width of the carburized/decarburized bands quantitatively, a model for carbon diffusion was proposed and a theoretical equation was derived.

  • In this study, we investigated surface characteristics of hydroxyapatite coated surface on nano/micro pore structured Ti-35Ta-xNb alloys. This paper was focus on morphology and corrosion resistance of Anodic oxidation. To prepare the samples, Ti-35Ta-xNb (x= 0, 10 wt. %) alloys were manufactured by arc melting and heat-treated for 12 h at $1050^{\circ}C$ in Ar atmosphere at $0^{\circ}C$ water quenching. Micro-pore structured surface was performed using anodization with a DC power supply at 280 V for 3 min, nanotube formed on Ti-35Ta-xNb alloys was performed using DC power supply at 30 V in 60 min at room temperature. Surface morphology and structure were examined by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction.
