Development of Wireless Integrated System for Managing Water Tank (저수조 무선 통합 관리 시스템 개발)

  • Most water tanks operating have been managed by people's five senses. A human material resource have been wasted awfully at this. In the present study, we suggest the wireless integrated system for managing water tank of reducing the wastage human resources and on-line real time managing efforts of water tanks. Water level sensor works the pump sending the data from water tank control to the wireless control on sensing water level. At this time, every kind data which happens in the water tank transmits the line transmission modem. Data to be received from the line transmission modem is stored at the database after we record the logs by each hour. We display the result to the web pages, after checking the pump motion, the pump error, the water level, the solar battery error, the chemicals, and the telephone line to the foundation data to be saved. Furthermore, this paper suggests empirical applications of the proposed wireless integrated system for managing water tank in order to verify its feasibility.

Effect of pH Control, Ozonation and Coagulation on THMs Formation in Dringking Water Treatment Process of the Downstream of Nakdong River (낙동강 하류의 정수처리 공정에서 pH, 오존 및 응집이 트리할로메탄 생성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of pH control and ozonation, coagulation on trihalomethanes (THMs) formation during prechlorination of the Nakdong river water. The results showed that lower pH was reduced THMs formation during prechlorination. THMs formation of water lowered pH 9.5 to 9.0, was reduced 18.3% and lowered pH 9.0 to 8.0 was reduced 14%, lowered pH 8.0 to 7.0 was reduced 7%, lowered pH 9.5 to 8.0 was reduced 29%. A low ozone dose ($0.11{\sim}0.48mg{\cdot}O_3/DOC$) before chlorination reduced the yields of THMs (reduced 6~24% in chlorination) compared with no preozonation. Thus the low ozone dose pretreatment is relatively effective plan to reduce THMs formation during chlorination. When ozone 1.0 mg/L, Alum 40 mg/L and sulfuric acid 6 mg/L dosed, The yields of THMs formation was reduced 42% compared with only chlorination. Input of chlorine after preozonation (followed coagulation, pH control) is more effective than only decline pH at a intake station to control THMs formation in a water treatment process. When chlorine 2.5 mg/L was added before coagulation (alum 40 mg/L), THMs formation was reduced 19% by lower pH and decreased 18% by a natural organic matter (NOM) removal compared with only chlorine 2.5 mg/L addition. Because coagulation could induce simultaneously lower pH and NOM removal, THM formation concentration is more effectively lowed than decreasing pH in the Nakdong river water.

The Development of Functional Seasoning Chicken Products using Natural Extracts of Green Tea and Water Soluble Mineral Ion (녹차와 기능수를 이용한 기능성 양념 계육 개발)

  • In order to investigate the effects of pickle carrier on physico-chemical characteristics of seasoning chicken products, chicken were cured in seasoning containing 100 ppm germanium water, green tea, water soluble mineral and mixtures(100 ppm germanium water+green tea+water soluble mineral) after addition of 0.1% concentration to the weight of chicken. The determination of pH, salt and sugar contents were carried out, according to curing time. The salt content showed 1.11 %, 1.21 % in cured at 24 hours in control of breast and leg, irrespective of chicken parts, in which showed 19.94 brix, 18.89 brix in sugar content, respectively. These results mean that breast and leg meat added with natural extracts and functional water showed higher sugar content than that of control, in which revealed shortening of curing time by increasing penetrating velocity of salt and sugar content. Thus, salt and sugar content tended to be increased as the curing time of pickle carrier were extended in seasoning chicken after dipping in pickle containing water soluble mineral ions for 6 hours. The seasoning chicken treated with natural extracts and functional water showed a lower than that of control in hardness, irrespective of chicken parts. Overall, the seasoning chicken treated with natural extracts and functional water showed a low TBARS value and Log CFU/g, in which revealed antioxidative and antimicrobial activity. The sensory evaluations of seasoning chicken added with natural extracts and functional water containing water-soluble mineral ions were not significantly different(P<0.05). The glutamic acid among free amino acid contents showed a high in seasoning chicken treated with green tea, compared to control. This amino acid played a important role in taste of seasoning meat. The doneness appearance in seasoning chicken added with natural extracts and functional water containing water-soluble mineral ions tended to not be different, compared to those of control. These results revealed that seasoning chicken added with natural extracts and functional water containing water-soluble mineral ions would be attractive in fast food market on the basis of improvement of tenderness, shortening of curing time and uniformity of roasting appearance in seasoning chicken.

The Study on Quantifying and Evaluating for the Functions of Flood Control and Fostering Water Resources in Agriculture (농업의 홍수조절기능과 수자원함양기능 계량화 및 가치평가에 관한 연구)

  • In order to share the understanding agricultural multifunctionality with people, we carried out quantification and monetary evaluation for controlling flood and fostering water resources function in paddy and upland farming in Korea. The amount of water controlling flood and fostering water resources function in paddy farming was much greater than that in upland. The quantification of flood control function could be estimated by sum of the height of dike and water infiltrated during the flooding periods in paddy farming, and water excepting runoff water from precipitation at flooding time in upland farming. As results of estimation of flood control function, the amounts of water controlling flood have been evaluated as $294mm\;year^{-1}$ in paddy farming and $72.6mm\;year^{-1}$ upland farming, and was calculated 3.71 billion MT on a nation basis in 2006. When it was carried out monetary estimation as the cost of dam construction and the depreciation expense by using replacement cost method, flood control functions in paddy and upland were evaluated as 44,338.9 and 7,221.5 billion won, respectively. Comparing with previous reports, monetary value was analyzed much to increase because of rising price cost recently. Fostering water resource functions were also quantified in paddy and upland farming as the amount of water keeping and infiltrating water during the cultivation. In the basis of estimation model, it was showed that paddy and upland farming had been estimated to have $414.28mm\;year^{-1}$, $18.7mm\;year^{-1}$, respectively. They were also calculated to 4.49 and 0.137 billion MT on a nation basis in 2006, respectively. The economic values of fostering water resources function in paddy and upland farming were also estimated to 1,769.4 and 52.8 billion won, respectively, as replacing the amount of water to the cost of drinking water in 2006. There were differences by much to the amounts of controlling flood function and fostering water resource between paddy and upland farming. It means that paddy farming more play an important role in environment than upland farming in Korea.

  • In this paper, To estimate monthly water distribution volume required optimization control of operating scheme & water distribution management for water transmission system in water supply, both Thomas-Fiering technique and Fourier series are compared and analyzed, respectively. Since water distribution volume is periodically repeated and has a linear fluctuation trend, parameters in each element are estimated through dividing into linear fluctuation trend component and periodical component. Finally, results of time-series analysis are proved to be more reasonable than that of Thomas-Fiering techniques by comparing simulation with observation data.

  • This study was conducted to determine the effects of water aggressivity on the corrosion in a recirculating pipe loop systems. As the pH was increased in the range of pH 6.0~8.5, water aggressivity was decreased. Zine and iron concentration of water adjusted by pH were lower than those of tap water and water adjusted by alkalinity and calcium hardness. The major elements of corrosion deposit analyzed by EDS(Energy Dispersion Spectrophotometer) were zinc and calcium. In conclusion, we suggest that in corrosion control practice in the water works industry, increasing the pH of the water can serve as a way of controlling the solubility of metal ions release from water distribution systems.

  • In coagulant control of water treatment plants, rule extraction, one of datamining categories, was performed for coagulant control of a water treatment plant. Clustering methods were applied to extract control rules from data. These control rules can be used for fully automation of water treatment plants instead of operator's knowledge for plant control. To perform fuzzy clustering, there are some coefficients to be determined and these kinds of studies have been performed over decades such as clustering indices. In this study, statistical indices were taken to calculate the number of clusters. Simultaneously, seed points were found out based on hierarchical clustering. These statistical approaches give information about features of clusters, so it can reduce computing cost and increase accuracy of clustering. The proposed algorithm can play an important role in datamining and knowledge discovery.

  • Advanced Phase Isolation Ditch (APID) process was studied to develop economic retrofitting technology, for the plants where retrofitting of common activated sludge process is required. In this study, to evaluate and monitor the effluent water quality ($BOD_5$, SS, T-N, and T-P) and operating conditions (Influent, SVI, SRT, and HRT) as process capable and stable parameters for treating municipal wastewater, a demonstration plant was installed and operated in the existing sewage treatment plant of P city. During this study, the average effluent $BOD_5$, SS, T-N, and T-P concentrations were 7.7, 5.6, 10.8, and 1.6 mg/L. Trend analysis of influent $BOD_5$, SS, T-N, and T-P in APID process were illustrated that APID process need for more strong APID process management on the winter session, such as developing new intermediated aeration mode, operating methods, and managements strategy. At the application of control chart, the signal of uncommon effects at APID process was determined much higher existing control chart tntr conventional control chart in this study. These results indicate that conventional control chart has been collected and determined cleary signal at only stable situation. Therefore, newly developed APID process of dynamic control chart can be one of the useful tool for monitoring and management process.

  • In this paper, control of small PEM(Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel cell stack by a microprocessor is introduced. The water management of fuel cell stack inside, a key technique in fuel cell control, can be achieved by adjusting the required air flow for fuel and cooling, and by purging the excessive water from the stack. It is very important to precisely control the BOS(Balance of Stack) since the stable operation of the fuel cell system mainly depends on it. In this study the fuel efficiency of the system is improved by the control of the system based on the measured air flow and purge cycle during the optimal operation and its effectiveness is proved by the experiments. The operating stability of the system is improved by the developed controller using a microprocessor and it is expected to be widely used for the control of small PEM fuel cell stack.

Changes in Quality Characteristics of Textured Vegetable Protein according to Salt Solution Concentration and Soaking Time (소금 용액 농도 및 침지 시간에 따른 Textured Vegetable Protein의 품질특성 변화)

  • To utilize textured vegetable protein (TVP) in food manufacturing, TVP was soaked in salt solutions of different concentrations. Physicochemical quality characteristics of TVP were then measured. When TVP was soaked in a salt solution, the pH tended to increase compared to the control. However, the pH decreased after 18 hours of soaking. The salinity of the control decreased slightly from the initial value depending on the soaking time. The group treated with salt solution showed higher salinity than the control. Water absorption capacity of the control increased as the soaking time increased. However, water absorption capacity of the group treated with salt solution decreased as the concentration of salt solution increased. Lightness of the group treated with salt solution showed less change than the control during soaking. The redness increased as the concentration of salt solution increased. The yellowness increased compared to the control during soaking. Hardness, gumminess, and chewiness of the control decreased during soaking in water. The group treated with salt solution showed significantly higher hardness, gumminess, and chewiness as the concentration of the salt solution increased. However, adhesiveness, elasticity, and cohesiveness generally did not show significant differences among samples.
