  • This work presents a design technique for the implementation of the liquid level control system by based on the use of a single-chip microcontroller. The proposed model system offers the following attractive features : (1) application of the pressure transducer for sensing the height of liquid in tank (2) using the obtained liquid level for defining on-off condition of the water pump (3) the liquid values were controlled by using stepping motors for controlling of 57 points (4) can set up by using manual control or automatic control (5) can monitor and display the process status either on microcontroller-based control board or on the computer via RS232 serial-port. Experimental results have been employed to show the effectiveness ...

  • An underwater glider is a type of autonomous unmanned vehicle and it advances using a vertical zig-zag glide. For this purpose, the position of an internal battery is regulated to control its attitude, and the amount of water in a buoyancy bag is regulated to control the depth. Underwater glider is suitable for a long-distance mission for a long time, because the required energy is much smaller than the conventional autonomous unmanned vehicle using propeller propulsion system. In this paper, control of horizontal tail wing is newly added to the conventional battery position and buoyancy control. The performance of the proposed controller is shown through Matlab simulation.

  • The present study addressed the efficacy of nanosized silica-silver for controlling plant pathogenic microorganisms. The nanosized silica-silver consisted of nano-silver combined with silica molecules and water soluble polymer, prepared by exposing a solution including silver salt, silicate and water soluble polymer to radioactive rays. The nanosized silica-silver showed antifungal activity against the tested phytopathogenic fungi at 3.0 ppm with varied degrees. In contrast, a number of beneficial bacteria or plant pathogenic bacteria were not significantly affected at 10 ppm level but completely inhibited by 100 ppm of nanosized silicasilver. Among the tested plant pathogenic fungi, the new product effectively controlled powdery mildews of pumpkin at 0.3 ppm in both field and greenhouse tests. The pathogens disappeared from the infected leaves 3 days after spray and the plants remained healthy thereafter. Our results suggested that the product developed in this study was effective in controlling various plant fungal diseases.

  • These days the exhaustion of petroleum resources and environmental problems are getting serious. Many researchers are focused on low emission and high performance vehicles. Therefore, we should concern about emission regulation when we design a new car. In this study, we investigated the characteristics of the traditional mechanical engine cooling systems which control the engine temperature using engine speed and wax type thermostat. This experiment used three components which are Radiator fan, water pump and water valve controlled by an electronic system based on the engine status (load, speed). We elucidated how different between traditional mechanical cooling system and electronic cooling system which control coolant temperature and coolant flow rate in a DI diesel engine in this paper. The results revealed a fuel saving and an emission (CO, HC) reduction on NEDC cycle.

  • Effects of anthranilic acid on normal mammary gland growth were examined in SHN/Mei female virgin mice. Anthranilic acid was given to the experimental groups as drinking water at the concentrations of 0.01, 0.02 or 0.04% for 21 days beginning 2-3 months of age. The control group received tap water only. RNA content and RNA/DNA ratio in mammary glands were significantly higher in mice given 0.04% anthranilic acid than in the control, while not mammary DNA content. The results indicate that chronic ingestion of anthranilic acid can induce an enhancement of proliferation and differentiation of mammary cells.

  • In corrosion-sensitive area of exsisting unpainted weathering steel bridge with closed box girder structure. there are some serious local corrosion problems because of rain water or dew water which can not be solved by conventional maintenance method. These problems must be technically controled because of the influence on the safety of bridge. This study is the first stage of developing the economic corrosion control manual for these local corrosion problems. Through the injecting experiment of tar sealant into the crevice of mock-up equipment, it was proofed that the corrosive sealant can be useful to corrosion control at crevice of corrosion sensitive area.

  • Effects of water-soluble extract from roasted-chicory root on the cholesterol metabolism in rats fed cholesterol diet were investigated. Sprague-Dawley rats received a hypercholesterolemic diets without (control group) or with 5.0% water-soluble extract from roasted chicory root for 2 weeks. Roasted chicory extract group showed significantly higher body weight gain and food intake compared with the control group. The concentrations of total cholesterol and LDL+VLDL cholesterol in serum were significantly lower in rats fed roasted chicory extract diet. However, HDL-cholesterol concentration, and atherogenic index were not significantly affected by the dietary roasted chicory extract. Fecal net weight, fecal cholesterol, and bile acid excretion were significantly higher in the chicory extract group. The results suggest that the hypocholesterolemic effect in rats fed roasted chicory extract may be caused by an alteration in the absorption of cholesterol by an increase in the fecal excretion of cholesterol and bile acid.

  • In underground reinforced concrete structures, such as drainage structure, water and chloride ion penetrated into concrete through the cracks of concrete and its permeable property, cause the corrosion of reinforcing steel bar, which accelerates the expansive cracks and deterioration of concrete. It is necessary to control those deterioration of underground structure by improving its permeability and durability through the reasonable solutions in design, construction and materials. In the present study, fly ash concrete, which has good material properties in long-term period, was compared and studied with plain concrete using ordinary portland cement in terms of fundamental mechanical properties, permeability, drying shrinkage and durability. Also, the mix design and field test of low permeable concrete using fly ash were performed. From this study, fly ash concrete can control the penetration of water and chloride ion effectively by forming dense micro-structure of concrete. Therefore, fly ash concrete may increase the long-term function, performance and serviceability of underground structures.

  • 1. Hanoi city was built up on the wetland landscape of the Red River delta therefore it has a network of many lakes and rivers. 2. The aquatic biodiversity (Macrophytes, Invertebrates, Fishes, Vertebrates) of the 6 main lakes (Ho Tay, Hoan Kiem, Bay Mau, Giang Vo, Dong Da, Thanh Nhan) are rich and diverse. It represents the patterns of Red River delta one's. Many rare and endangered species are found in these lakes Particularly a giant freshwater turtle species in Hoan Kiem lake. 3. All of these lakes are more or less polluted. Their environments are seriously degrading both in water quality and aquatic biodiversity. 4. Based on socio-economical and cultural role of these lakes of Hanoi city, it is very necessary to preserve and to restore their environments and aquatic biodiversity: water Pollution control, landscape planning, making roads around the lakes and erosion control for their banks, legislation measures, rational exploitation of aquatic biodiversity, restoration the artificial wetlands with macrophytes.

  • Dehiscence of ginseng seeds under the various conditions, growing experiment in the different soil conditions, and growing experiment with extracts obtained by water passed the pot of 4 year ginseng plants were performed. The results obtained are as follows: The survival rate of ginseng plants in the soil of ginseng field sterilized by MIYAZAWA's method was higher than that of the non-sterilized, but lower than that of the control. The survival rate of ginseng plants on the sterilized soil of ginseng field was lower than that on the surrounding soil. The growth of ginseng plants cultivated with the water passed through the pot-planted 4-year-old ginseng plants was strongly inhibited in comparison with the control. Besides biological cause, chemical products excreted from the root of ginseng plants might be the important factors of soil sickness in the successive cultivation of the same plants.
