Headspace Hanging Drop Liquid Phase Microextraction and GC-MS for the Determination of Linalool from Evening Primrose Flowers

  • Headspace hanging drop liquid phase micro-extraction (HS-HD-LPME) is studied as a novel solvent-based sample pretreatment method for floral volatile aroma compounds. This paper reports on application of the HSHD- LPME combined with GC-MS for the analysis of linalool component emitted from evening primrose flowers. The effect of several variables on the method performance was investigated. Additionally, the separation of enantiomers on a cyclodextrin capillary column was performed to identify chirality of (−)-linalool component. Since the unsurpassed volume of a few micro-liters of solvent is used, there is minimal waste or exposure to toxic organic solvents. This method enables to combine extraction, enrichment, clean-up, and sample introduction into a single step prior to the chromatographic process.

Microscopic Spray Characteristics in the Effervescent Atomizer with Two Aerator Tubes

  • An experimental study is performed on atomization characteristics and stable operating conditions for the injection of high viscous waste vegetable oil using an effervescent atomizer with 2 aerator tubes. Consideration is given to the effects of ALR and liquid viscosity on the velocity and mean diameter of the injected droplet. It is found that (i) as ALR increases, the axial velocity of the droplet is increased, while half-velocity width and SMD are decreased regardless of the change in liquid viscosities, (ii) the rate of fine drop distribution occupied in the total spray field is increased with an increase in ALR, and (iii) the effect of viscosity on the atomization characteristics is minor. Consequently, it is expected that the effervescent atomizer will exhibit an excellent atomization performance at the high ALR condition, regardless of liquid viscosities.

  • Nowadays liquid manure can no longer be regarded as a waste product, but as a compound fertilizer, which should be used as efficiently as possible, especially on the farm. Additionally, there is the intensified public discussion about environmental issues. With respect to the ecological effects of the proper application of liquid manure, administrative regulations in the form of guidelines, decrees and ordinances have been established in region. It is questionable though, if such quantifying restrictions bring a reduction of ground water pollution, or if not through these measures new problems will be created, i. e. be temporarily postponed. Moreover, in this Study, possible Operation and technical Improvement are presented.

  • To prevent the inappropriate treatment of livestock manure and induce the correct circulation of them into farmland, systematic monitoring and management by the treatment and circulation stage of livestock manure are required. The purpose of this study was to apply ubiquitous information communictation technology (u-ICT) to a livestock waste management system for better treatment by utilizing ubiquitous computing technology in the livestock sector. Elements and levels of applicable u-ICT technology for efficient livestock manure management were derived by analyzing previous researches. In addition, a conceptual diagram of an integrated management system was suggested by analyzing the existing liquid fertilization process.

Hydration Characteristics of Cement Paste Added Liquid and Neutralized Red Mud (액상 및 중화 레드머드를 첨가한 시멘트 페이스트의 수화특성)

  • Red mud is a highly alkaline waste by-product of the aluminum industry. Although recycling of red mud is being actively researched, a feasible technological solution has not been found yet. In this study, we propose that neutralization of red mud alkalinity could assist in its use as a construction material. Neutralized red mud ( pH 6-8) was prepared by adding sulfuric acid to liquefied red mud (pH 10-12). After adding liquid and neutralized red mud to the cement paste, the heat of hydration was measured. As a result of the experiment, the calorific value of the cement paste with liquid red mud was lowered and delayed compared to the cement paste with neutralized red mud.
