해양기상 관측자료를 이용한 서해 중부해역 해무 분석 (Analysis of a Sea Fog Using Ocean-air Observation Data in the Mid-Yellow Sea off Korea)

  • 2002년 7월 8일에서 10일까지 AWS와 CTD를 이용하여 서해 중부 연안역에서 해양기상관측을 실시하였다. 수심이 낮은 태안반도 연안역에서 17$^{\circ}C$ 이하의 냉수가 출현하였고, 36$^{\circ}$20'N와 36$^{\circ}$30'N 사이에 정선을 따라 조석전선이 형성되었다. 기온의 분포는 수온의 분포양상과 유사하게 나타났다. 덕적도 주변(Al)에서 24시간 연속관측결과, 조류와 같은 주기로 북동부로부터 고온저염수와 남서부로부터 저온고염수의 이동이 관측되었다. 관측기간 중에 7월 8일 23시에서 9일 1시 30분까지, 9일 3시에서 5시까지 해무가 발생하였다. 해무발생 시 북태평양 고기압이 약해지면서 기온은 18$^{\circ}C$까지 하강하였고, 바람은 2-4m/s의 북동풍이 불었다. 위성사진을 분석하였을 때, 이 안개는 표층수온이 높은 황해서부를 중심으로 발생하여 시간이 지나면서 관측해역으로 확장된 증기안개이다. 이 해무는 기온과 풍속이 상승하면서 소멸되었다.

GMS-5 위성자료를 이용한 한반도 주변 해무탐지 연구 (Study on sea fog detection near Korea peninsula by using GMS-5 Satellite Data)

  • 해무발생은 대기 ·해양간의 상호작용과 강한 국지적 영향에 좌우된다. 실제로 해양에서의 선상관측과 부이관측의 부족 때문에 그 연구에 어려움이 많다. 따라서 현재 광범위한 해무역의 탐지는 위성영상의 이용만이 가능한데, 즉 매 1시간마다 수신되는 GMS-5호를 이용하여 해무탐지기법과 연속적인 해무탐지를 수행할 수 있다.본 연구에서는 1999년 5월 중 해무 발생시의 종관장을 한기이류형과 난기이류형으로 분류하였으며, 또한 오산 고층 기상자료를 이용한 하층 수증기량의 변동량을 파악하여 5월 10일 OOUTC와 18UTC을 사례일로 결정하였다. 주간 해무 탐지 사례일(1999년 5월 10일 OOUTC)에 대해서 합성영상, 가시누적히스토그램, 지표알 베도값 기법을 적용하였으며 그 중 가시누적히스토그램기법을 이용한 해부탐지의 특성값은A(min) > 20%and DA <. 10% 이며 지표알베도 기법이 가시누적히스토그램보다 합성영상기법의 해무 탐지역이 더욱더 일치하는 것을 보였다. 또한 육상 시정 및 상대습도와 비교할 때 가시누적히스토그램 적용시 시정 1km이하, 상대습도 80%이상지역은 보령 하나였고, 지표알베도기법 적용시 보령, 목포, 강릉지역에서 모두 잘 일치하였다. 야간해무탐지 사례일(1999년 5월 10일 18UTC)에 대해서 적외누적히스토그램과 최대휘도온도값 기법을 적용하였다 적외차 기법인 적외누적히스토그램기법은 야간 해무를 전혀 탐지하지 못하였으며 최대휘도온도값 기법은 T_max < T_max_Os 보다 작고 적외 1채널의 휘도온도값이 700hPa의 수치온도값보다 작을 때 해무역으로 판단되었으며 사례일에 대해서 NOAA(National Oceanic and Atmospjheric Administration) 적외차에의한 해무탐지역과 일치하였다. 그러나 육상 시정 및 상대습도분포와 잘 일치하지 않았다.

Relationship between Low-level Clouds and Large-scale Environmental Conditions around the Globe

  • To understand the characteristics of low-level clouds (CLs), environmental variables are composited on each CL using individual surface observations and six-hourly upper-air meteorologies around the globe. Individual CLs has its own distinct environmental conditions. Over the eastern subtropical and western North Pacific Ocean in JJA, stratocumulus (CL5) has a colder sea surface temperature (SST), stronger and lower inversion, and more low-level cloud amount (LCA) than the climatology whereas cumulus (CL12) has the opposite characteristics. Over the eastern subtropical Pacific, CL5 and CL12 are influenced by cold and warm advection within the PBL, respectively but have similar cold advection over the western North Pacific. This indicates that the fundamental physical process distinguishing CL5 and CL12 is not the horizontal temperature advection but the interaction with the underlying sea surface, i.e., the deepening-decoupling of PBL and the positive feedback between shortwave radiation and SST. Over the western North Pacific during JJA, sky-obscuring fog (CL11), no low-level cloud (CL0), and fair weather stratus (CL6) are associated with anomalous warm advection, surface-based inversion, mean upward flow, and moist mid-troposphere with the strongest anomalies for CL11 followed by CL0. Over the western North Pacific during DJF, bad weather stratus (CL7) occurs in the warm front of the extratropical cyclone with anomalous upward flow while cumulonimbus (CL39) occurs on the rear side of the cold front with anomalous downward flow. Over the tropical oceans, CL7 has strong positive (negative) anomalies of temperature in the upper troposphere (PBL), relative humidity, and surface wind speed in association with the mesoscale convective system while CL12 has the opposite anomalies and CL39 is in between.

  • A fiber optic gyrocompass for ships was made in consideratino of cost, reliability and convenience. In order to reduce the cost a cheaper fiber sensor was used inthis system. The accuracy was increased by replacing a 180ppr-slit disk with a 1000ppr-encoder. The reliability was also increased by improving the signal processing electronics. This system was made as a heading angle display type for convenience. Although more inexpensive FOG than that of the previous system was used , the accuracy of this compass was increased about 0.5$^{\circ}$. Moreover, it has a very fast warm-up time of about 5minutes. Therefore, this compass can show the prospect of proactical use on ships if it is installed ona stabilizer against the dynamic motion such as rolling and pitching.

Modification of Sea Water Temperature by Wind Driven Current in the Mountainous Coastal Sea

  • Numerical simulation on marine wind and sea surface elevation was carried out using both three-dimensional hydrostatic and non-hydrostatic models and a simple oceanic model from 0900 LST, August 13 to 0900 LST, August 15, 1995. As daytime easterly meso-scale sea-breeze from the eastern sea penetrates Kangnung city in the center part as basin and goes up along the slope of Mt. Taegullyang in the west, it confronts synoptic-scale westerly wind blowing over the top of the mountain at the mid of the eastern slope and then the resultant wind produces an upper level westerly return flow toward the East Sea. In a narrow band of weak surface wind within 10km of the coastal sea, wind stress is generally small, less than l${\times}$10E-2 Pa and it reaches 2 ${\times}$ 10E-2 Pa to the 35 km. Positive wind stress curl of 15 $\times$ 10E-5Pa $m^{-1}$ still exists in the same band and corresponds to the ascent of 70 em from the sea level. This is due to the generation of northerly wind driven current with a speed of 11 m $S^{-1}$ along the coast under the influence of south-easterly wind and makes an intrusion of warm waters from the southern sea into the northern coast, such as the East Korea Warm Current. On the other hand, even if nighttime downslope windstorm of 14m/s associated with both mountain wind and land-breeze produces the development of internal gravity waves with a hydraulic jump motion of air near the coastal inland surface, the surface wind in the coastal sea is relatively moderate south-westerly wind, resulting in moderate wind stress. Negative wind stress curl in the coast causes the subsidence of the sea surface of 15 em along the coast and south-westerly coastal surface wind drives alongshore south-easterly wind driven current, opposite to the daytime one. Then, it causes the intrusion of cold waters like the North Korea Cold Current in the northern coastal sea into the narrow band of the southern coastal sea. However, the band of positive wind stress curl at the distance of 30km away from the coast toward further offshore area can also cause the uprising of sea waters and the intrusion of warm waters from the southern sea toward the northern sea (northerly wind driven current), resulting in a counter-clockwise wind driven current. These clockwise and counter-clockwise currents much induce the formation of low clouds containing fog and drizzle in the coastal region.

도시의 대기오염과 시정감소에 관하여 (On Relationship of Low Visibility to Air Pollution in Cities)

  • Using data measured in 1989, a study on variations of visibility and air pollution observed in Seoul, Chongju and Choopoongryong is carried out. Analysis includes on low visibility (< 10km) and smog occurring in the Metropolitan Seoul. It was observed that number of days of visibility less than 10km during 1989 was 56.7% (207 days) for Seoul, 45.7%(167 days) for Chongju and 5.8% (21 days) for Choopoongryong. Chongju is a medium size city (population : a half million) and Choopoongryong is a rural site. In the urban are as, however, the number of low visibility days was relatively large during the winter but with little seasonal variations. In each month these cities recorded more than 10 days of low visibility. The visibility reduction due to mist, fog and haze been occurred with air pollution. In particular, the reduction in a cold season related with an increase in high concentrations of $SO_x$ and aerosols. This type of low visibility occurring in Seoul is a similar type that is occurring in London, U.K. On the other hand, the visibility reduction during in a warm season is related with high concentrations of NOx and other photochemical precursors. The visibility reduction in Seoul during summer is the same type occurring in Los Angeles, U.S.A.

고온기 유리온실의 냉방방법이 토마토 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Greenhouse Cooling Method on the Growth and Yield of the Tomato cv. Momotaro in Warm Season)

  • 여름철 시설내 온도강하를 위해 차광, 포그, 미스트, Fan and Pad 등 다양한 방법들이 행해지고 있고 그 효과에 대해서도 잘 알려져 있다. 그러나 대부분의 효과가 처리방법간 일 최고 기온시의 상대적인 비교를 나타낸 것이므로 실제로 일평균, 순평균하게 되면 그효과는 미미하게 된다. 더구나 우리나라는 8월중 맑은날이 10일 미만이고 상대습도가 놀기 때문에 기화냉각 효과는 더욱 떨어지게 된다. 따라서 여름철 토마토 재배시 온도강하 방법으로 포그처리는 냉방효파에 비해 설치 및 유지관리비에 많은비용이 소요되는 문제가 있고, 온도제어 차광은 지나치게 차광되어 수량감소가 많아 부적합하므로 팬+일사제어 자동차광으로 외기온 가까이 온도를 내리는 것을 목표로 하는 것이 경제적일 것으로 생각된다.
