  • This study is aimed to derive the optimum mix proportion of the combined self compacting concrete according to cement types (blast-furnace slag cement and belite cement) and to propose the basic data to field construction work after evaluating the quality properties. Specially, lime stone powder (LSP) as binder and viscosity agent are used in the combined self compacting concrete because slurry wall of an underground LNG storage tank should be kept stability of quality during concrete working. Replacement ratio of LSP is determined by confined water ratio test and main design factors including fine aggregate ratio ($S_r$), coarse aggregate ratio ($G_v$) and water-cement ratio (W/C) are selected. Also, quality properties including setting time, bleeding content, shortening depth and hydration heat on the optimum mix proportion of the combined self compacting concrete according to cement type are compared and analyzed. As test results, the optimum mix proportion of the combined self compacting concrete according to cement type is as followings. 1) Slag cement type-replacement ratio of LSP 13.5%, $S_r$ 47% and W/C 41%. 2) Belite cement type-replacement ratio of LSP 42.7%, Sr 43% and W/C 51%. But optimum coarse aggregate ratio is 53% regardless of cement types. Also, as test results regarding setting time, bleeding content, shortening depth and hydration heat of the combined self compacting concrete by cement type, belite cement type is most stable in the quality properties and is to apply the actual construction work.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the hybrid sound-absorbing materials that is made from organic polyurethane sponge impregnated with inorganic binder solutions. The inorganic slurry which is made from ${\alpha}$-hemihydrate gypsum mixed with 60% water, and various additives including plasticizer are used as binder. The test specimens are prepared and tested for sound absorption performance by the impedance tube methods. From the test results, noise reduction coefficient(NRC) of development materials specimen bound by the inorganic binder slurry is 0.41. They are 2 times or more higher than commercial products specimens bound by organic materials only which have NRC values in the range of 0.14 to 0.28. The polyurethane sponge specimens impregnated with inorganic gypsum slurry binder have a good balance between performance and cost, and have proper properties in density, thermal conductivity, non-combustible, and absence of harmful substances as sound-absorbing internal boards for noise barrier wall. It is apparent that the good sound absorption materials can be produced according to the optimum mix design that is recommended from this study.

  • In the present study, a newly modified soil nailing technology named as the PSN(Pretension Soil Nailing) system is proposed. Effects of various factors related to the design of the pretension soil nailing system, such as the length of a sheathing pipe and the fixed cone, are examined throughout a series of the displacement-controlled field pull-out tests. 9 displacement-controlled field pull-out tests are performed in the present study and the pretension forces are also evaluated based on the measurements. In addition, both short-term and long-term characteristics of pull-out deformations of the newly proposed PSN system are analyzed and compared with those of the general soil nailing system by carrying out the stress-controlled field pull-out tests. A numerical approach is further made to determine a postulated failure surface as well as a minimum safety factors of the proposed PSN system using the shear strength reduction technique and the $FLAC^{2D}$ program. Global minimum safety factors and local safety factors at various excavation stages computed in case of the PSN system are analyzed throughout comparisons with the results expected in case of the general soil nailing system. An efficiency of the PSN system is also dealt with by analyzing the wall-facing deformations and the adjacent ground surface settlements.

  • The steel rib, one of the main support of tunnel, plays a very important role to stabilize tunnel excavation surface until shotcrete or rockbolt starts to perform a supporting function. In general, a steel rib at the horizontal funnel is being installed in the direction of gravity which is known favorable in terms of constructability and stability. However, as the direction of principal stress at the inclined tunnel wall is different from that of gravity, the optimum direction of steel rib could be different from that at the horizontal tunnel. In this study, a numerical method was used to analyze the direction of force that would develope displacement at the inclined tunnel surface, and that direction could be the optimum direction of steel rib. The support efficiency of steel rib could be maximized when the steel rib was installed to resist the displacement of the tunnel. Three directions which were recommended for the inclined tunnels in the Korea Tunnel Design Standard were used for the numerical models of steel rib direction. In conclusion, the results show that all displacement angle of the models are almost perpendicular to the tunnel surface regardless of face angle. So if the steel rib would be installed perpendicular to the inclined tunnel surface, the support efficiency of steel rib could be maximized.

  • Hydraulic issues such as flow resistance, side wall correction, sediment, erosion and deposition, and channel design have close relation with distribution of bed shear stresses but the measurement of the distribution of bed shear stresses is not easy. In this study the Preston tube which makes possible relatively simple measurement of bed shear stresses is used to analyze the characteristics of bed shear distribution in compound open channels with different depth ratio. The Preston tubes are made and calibrated to develop the calibration formula and then they are applied to measure bed shear stress distribution in 5 cases depth ratio condition of compound channels. The results are compared with former experiment data, and characteristics of bed shear stress distributions are studied with different channel scales and Reynolds numbers. Although bed shear distributions with depth ratio show overall agreement with former studies, some differences are verified in bed shear variation, formation of inflection point in main channel, and distribution near floodplain junction which are due to high Reynolds number. Through the study applicability of the Preston tubes are also verified and characteristics of bed shear distribution in compound channels are suggested with Reynolds number and depth ratio.

  • This paper is to determine the possibility of re-using waste concrete from Incheon city area. The strength test was conducted with five aggregate compounds which was replaced a natural aggregate with recycled aggregate. After checking the physical characteristics of recycled aggregate compounds, the mix design of recycled concrete was conducted. For the relatively comparison between natural and recycled compounds, while the unit aggregate weight was changed, other conditions were fixed. The freezing and thawing test which included fly-ash and super-plastezer were performed to check the durability and workability when recycling waste concrete. In the physical characteristics of recycled aggregate, it was found that the specific gravity of recycled coarse aggregate and recycled fine aggregate satisfied the first grade of recycle specification(KS), and all compounds of recycled aggregate also satisfied the second grade of absorption specification, Especially up to the 50% substitution of recycled aggregate is equal to or a bit lower than that of convention aggregate. In comparison with conventional concrete, the recycled concrete is lower than maximum by 7% in compressive strength decreasing rate after freezing-thawing test. From now, although most of recycled concrete was used to the building lot, subgrade, asphalt admixture, through the result. It was proved that possibility of re-using recycled aggregate as the substructure of bridge, retaining wall, tunnel lining and concrete structure which is not attacked the drying shrinkage severely.

  • When an embankment is constructed on soft clay ground, the lateral displacement generally called as lateral flow is generated in the foundation ground. It strongly affects stabilities of structures, such as foundation piles and underground pipes, in and on the foundation ground. The lateral earth pressure induced by the lateral flow is influenced by the magnitude and construction speed of embankment, the geometric conditions and geotechnical characteristics of the embankment, and the foundation ground, and so on. Accurate methods for estimating the lateral earth pressure have not ever been established because the lateral flow of a foundation ground shows very complicated behavior, which is caused by the interaction of shear deformation and volumetric deformation. In this paper, a series of model tests were carried out in order to clarify effects of construction speed of an embankment on the lateral earth pressure in a foundation ground were design. It was found that the magnitude and the distribution of the lateral earth pressure and its change with time are dependent on the construction speed of the embankment. It was found that a mechanism for the lateral earth pressure was generated by excess pore water pressure due to negative dilatancy induced by shear deformation under the different conditions of construction speeds of embankments.

  • The objective of this paper is to assess the service life and retrain methods of specimens, which were subjected to carbonation attack, obtained from mix proportion of Sam-cheok LNG storage tank under construction. As the results, accelerated-carbonation penetration depths of 7, 28, 56 ages indicated 4.45, 9.19, 13.37mm, and even considering for cover depths of steel of LNG storage tank under real operation, it was enough. In addition, with carbonation velocity coefficient calculated by carbonation penetration depths, the service life to design cover depth(70, 80, 90, 100mm) of PC outer tank of LNG storage tank was 779, 1017, 1287, 1589 years and 466, 609, 771, 951 years, respectively, considering the $CO_2$ concentration in air which account for the 0.03% and 0.05%. Also, the restrain methods to carbonation attack were feasible through controlling the factors affecting the changes of hydration products such as $Ca(OH)_2$, ion composition in pore solution and matter mobility of organization structures within hardened concrete.

  • Recently, the proportion of long tunnel has increased for efficient use of land due to limited land area, driving convenience and high speed. RMR and Q-System of empirical methods has been mainly used for tunnel support design in domestic. Although shotcrete is the key to NATM tunnel, the related studies are insufficient. So, steel fiber reinforced shotcrete is applied to II~V grade rocks on domestic and foreign applications. And same amount of shotcrete is equally applied to tunnel roof and wall regardless of the applied rock load. Shotcrete is applied excessively rather than the original proposed value of RMR and Q-System. Thus, this study is to reevaluate the application part of plain shotcrete and steel fiber reinforced shotcrete of tunnel in Daebo granite, and to propose the reasonable application method of steel fiber reinforced shotcrete. Field test and numerical back analysis using measurements were performed to verify stability. According to results, if RMR values are the upper class in the III grade, it can be designed in accordance with upper grade. In addition, if rock condition is good as a mountain tunnel in Daebo granite, it can be applied for plain shotcrete to III grade rocks because there is also no stability problems. And although steel fiber reinforced shotcrete is applied only crown of the tunnel in IV grade rocks, it is possible to secure stability for falling rock by key-block.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of different nipple angles on water disappearance in growing pigs, which is defined as the water which leaves the watering device but is not consumed by the pig. This water adds to the volume of the total waste slurry. Four crossbred pigs averaging $70.0{\pm}1.4$ kg were assigned into 1 of 4 treatments using a $4{\times}4$ Latin-square design. Treatments were distinguished by the angle between nipple terminal and the perpendicular wall. These angles were: 1) NA-30 (= Nipple Angle $30^{\circ}$), 2) NA-45 (= Nipple Angle $45^{\circ}$), 3) NA-60 (= Nipple Angle $60^{\circ}$) and 4) NA-90 (= Nipple Angle $90^{\circ}$). All of the nipples were fixed at shoulder height of each pig. After a 7-day adaptation period, samples were collected from each pig for 4 days, followed by a day for change-over. Pigs were fed a 0.8 kg diet twice daily at 08:00 and 20:00 and supplied water ad libitum. Throughout the experimental period, pigs in the NA-30 treatment group showed greater water disappearance than other treatments. Water disappearance was the lowest for the NA-60 treatment group (p<0.01). The percentage of water disappearance to the water supply was significantly reduced in the NA-60 treatment group (p<0.01). Water intake was the same for all the treatment groups. The rate of water disappearance per unit of water intake was significantly decreased in pigs in the NA-60 treatment group compared to other groups (p<0.01). These results suggested that the nipple angle for growing pigs should be $60^{\circ}$ to reduce water disappearance and, subsequently, the amount of waste generated.
