  • This is a report of leiomyoma in the esophagus. patient had suffered from mild intermittent dysphagia on eating without any other complaints. This complaint had been going for 45 days, but was not progressed. The esophagogram revealed an ovoid walnut-sized smooth filling defect in the midportion of the esophagus. The mucosal folds of the esophagus were not destroyed. A benign intramural tumor of the esophagus, such as leiomyoma, was suspected with X-ray finding and clinical features. On Aug. 13, 1976 a thoracotomy was performed at right 4th intercostal space. A firm, irregular shaped mass in the wall of the esophagus was enucleated by blunt dissection without any injury of the mucosa of the esophagus. The diagnosis of leiomyoma was confirmed with histopathological finding. Postoperative course was uneventful.

  • During a 3-year period (2001-2004) 18 animals were surgically treated because of abdominal wall defects (hernia). Out of 18 animals 8 were bovines, 5 caprines and 5 canines. In each case the defect was bridged with carbon fibres. Carbon fibres were placed either in simple interrupted pattern or as mattress overlapping pattern. All the cases were successfully treated and no complication was observed up to six months postoperatively.

  • A case of complete interruption of aortic arch with aortopulmonary window, patent ductus arteriosus, and aberrantly originated right subclavian artery from proximal descending aorta, in a four year old boy is reported in detail. This is the only reported case in Korea, who has had a successful one-stage total anatomical correction of this combination of defects. Under deep hypothermia and total circulatory arrest, aortic continuity was established using patent ductus arteriosus and anterior wall of pulmonary artery, which was anastomosed obliquely to anteromedial side of ascending aorta. Aortopulmonary window was closed using Impra patch via pulmonary arteriotomy. Then pulmonary arteriotomy was reconstructed primarily except at the junction of right pulmonary artery and main pulmonary artery, where a small piece of pericardium was used to close the defect to prevent kinking and narrowing of right pulmonary artery. Postoperative cardiac catheterization demonstrated a good reconstruction.

  • If a ruptured blood blister-like aneurysm (BBA) arises from the lateral or superolateral wall of the internal carotid artery (ICA) at the level of the anterior choroidal artery (AChA), its proximity to the origin of the AChA presents a serious surgical challenge to preserve the patency of the AChA. Two such rare cases are presented, along with successful surgical techniques, including the application of a C-shaped aneurysm clip parallel to the ICA and a microsuture technique to repair the arterial defect. The patency of the AChA and ICA was successfully preserved without recurrence or rebleeding of the BBA during a 1-year follow-up after the operation.

  • Esophageal leiomyoma is a very rare disease. We present a patient who underwent enucleation of esophageal leiomyoma through a left thoracotomy. The patient was suffered from substernal pain and chest discomfort for 4 months. The esophagogram revealed irregular ovoid smooth filling defect in just proximal portion of G-E junction with the normal mucosal folds. Chest CT demonstrated well-defined, polypoid tumor mass on the anterolateral wall of the distal esophagus. Esophagoscopy revealed normal intact mucosal patterns with swollen hard protruded tumor mass lesion from the just proximal portion of G-E junction. In June, 1993, patient underwent enucleation of esophageal leiomyoma through the left thoracotomy. A horseshoe and spiral shaped, whitish firm tumor mass was noted on the distal esophagus, and the tumor mass was enucleated by blunt dissection carefully. The esophageal leiomyoma was confirmed with histopathological examination. The postoperative course was smooth and uneventful.

  • This paper examined the stability of high-dense dislocation substructures (HDDSs) associated with martensite laths in High Cr steels supposed to be used for FBR, based on a series of dislocation dynamics (DD) simulations. The DD simulations considered interactions of dislocations with impurity atoms and precipitates which substantially stabilize the structure. For simulating the dissociation processes, a point defect model is developed and implemented into a discrete DD code. Wall structure composed of high dense dislocations with and without small precipitates were artificially constructed in a simulation cell, and the stability/instability conditions of the walls were systematically investigated in the light of experimentally observed coarsening behavior of the precipitates, i.e., stress dependency of the coarsening rate and the effect of external stress. The effect of stress-dependent coarsening of the precipitates together with application of external stress on the subsequent behavior of initially stabilized dislocation structures was examined.

  • Polymer concrete has more useful than cement concrete in the strength and durability. So, it is widely utilizing as panel for wall, manhole for communication, foundation and underground connection box, etc. But polymer concrete is a defect that is disadvantageous in economical aspect because cost of resin is expensive. Polymer concrete (PC) using unsaturated polyester resins based on recycled polyethylene terephthalate(PET) plastic waste were used in our study for grasping its mechanical properties such as compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength and chemical resistance was tested by dealing with 20% HCl, 30% NaOH. As a result of it, compressive, tensile and flexural strength of PC indicated 752kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$, 80kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 243kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ kind of satisfaction successively. Also, properties of chemical resistance are superior to those of cement concrete.

  • Isolated anomalous right coronary artery originating from the pulmonary artery (ARCAPA) is a rare congenital coronary anomaly that is asymptomatic and discovered incidentally in most cases. ARCAPA is generally not considered a fatal defect in infancy or childhood, although cases of sudden death have been reported. Here, we report a 2-month-old female infant who presented with a prolonged fever that was determined to be caused by rhinovirus infection. Myocardial ischemia of the left ventricular posterior wall was already seen on echocardiography, and ARCAPA was discovered incidentally. The patient underwent successful surgical reimplantation of the right coronary artery to the aortic root to re-establish dual ostial circulation.
