boiling flow in vertical tube. The multiphase flow model used in this CFD analysis is the two-fluid model in which liquid(water) and gas(vapour) are considered as continuous and dispersed fluids, respectively. A wall boiling model is also used to simulate the subcooled boiling heat transfer at the heated wall boundary. The diameter and heated length of tube are 0.0154 m and 2 m, respectively. The system pressure in tube is 4.5 MPa and the inlet subcooling is 60 K. The near-wall grid size in the non-dimensional wall unit for lqiuid phase ($y^+_{w,l}$) was examined from 101 to 313 at the outlet boundary. The CFD calculations predicted the void distributions as well as the liquid and wall temperatures in tube. The predicted axial variations of the void fraction and the wall temperature are compared with the measured ones. The CFD prediction of the wall temperature is shown to slightly depend on the near-wall grid size but the axial void prediction has somewhat large dependency. The CFD prediction was found to show a better agreement with the measured one for the large near-wall grid, e.g., $y^+_{w,l}$ > 300 at the tube exit.
When pipe components made of carbon steel in nuclear, fossil, and industry plants are exposed to flowing fluid, wall thinning caused by FAC(flow accelerated corrosion) can be generated and eventually ruptured at the position of pressure boundary. The aim of this study is to identify the locations at which local wall thinning occurs and to determine the turbulence coefficient related to local wall thinning. Experiment and numerical analyses for the tee sections of down scaled piping components were performed and the results were compared. In particular, flow visualization experiment which was used alkali metallic salt was performed to find actual location of local wall thinning inside tee components. In order to determine the relationship between turbulence coefficients and local wall thinning, numerical analyses were performed for tee components in the main feedwater systems. The turbulence coefficients based on the numerical analyses were compared with the local wall thinning based on the measured data. From the comparison of the results, the vertical flow velocity component(Vr) flowing to the wall after separating in the wall due to the geometrical configuration and colliding with the wall directly at an angle of some degree was analogous to the configuration of local wall thinning.
The purpose of this study is to examine the function of wall posts in pit-houses in the Bronze Age, in the Kyung-nam Province. Wall posts were found as post-holes, created after wooden posts had decayed. In this research, the role of wall posts is newly defined from the perspective of a construction engineering. While existing studies in archaeology regard wall posts as sub-posts that support the roof of a pit-house, this study views wall posts as piles installed to support the soil wall, not as sub-posts. Based on the existing reports on excavation in prehistoric settlement sites by archaeologists, the study examines the remnants of the wall posts and remains after a fire. The main findings of this study are threefold. First, the wall posts were installed not as posts but as piles, cut sharply and hammered along the building lines of a pit-house. Second, wall piles were used to support the walls during earthwork, such as excavating and banking for low ground, mostly because a large amount of soil is often lost during the process. Third, wall piles were used as post piles of retaining walls that enabled the installation of transverse wall panels, which were used to prevent the soil loss.
This study proposed hybrid coupled shear wall in the steel plate insertion method, which is capable of reinforcing the shear strength of the entire wall without increasing wall thickness in the wall-slab apartment buildings. The proposed hybrid coupled shear wall was tested for its effectiveness, shear strength and seismic behavior in experiment. As a test result, the shear strength improvement by the proposed hybrid coupled shear was found effective. Integral-type of steel plate insertion was found more effective than separate-type steel plate insertion. In this case, if the stud enforcement method proposed in this study was used, the shear strength of hybrid coupled shear wall was recommended to calculate using the KBC2016 0709.4.1(3) method. The steel plate inserted in the proposed method was found to have no significant impact on the final fracture behavior and bending strength of hybrid coupled shear wall. The shear strength at the final destruction of the wall was merely about 1/50 of the entire design shear strength. Thus, it is deemed that the wall was over excessively designed regarding the shear force in the existing design method. This finding indicates further study on wall designing to ensure effective and economic designing based on appropriate strength estimation under the destruction mechanism.

PURPOSES : This study is to suggest future development direction and application of environmental noise barriers as multi-functional soundproof wall. METHODS : Based on the literature review, case study and patent search, research and patent trend were investigated. Patent search was conducted by Patent searching tools, 'Focust'. RESULTS : As environmental noise barriers, Vegetative soundproof wall, photovoltaic soundproof wall, and air-pollution reduction soundproof wall were investigated. First of all, In Korea, Vegetative soundproof wall is being developed mostly as soundproof wall that has vegetation foundation inside, to meet the domestic condition with 23 patent applications. Second, Photovoltaic soundproof wall is being developed mainly with efficiency of photovoltaic system rather than soundproofing. And it is limited to one generation solar cell technology, although Solar cell technology is developing at a rapid pace. On the other hand, for reducing air-pollutant by soundproof wall, a variety of methods are being suggested (filtration, adsorption, and photocatalytic oxidation), and one of them, adsorption are applied for developing air pollution reduction soundproof wall in Korea. CONCLUSIONS: The above soundproof wall is not simple structure, but road facility applied fusion technique. Therefore, as one system, it is difficult to harmonize due to various considerations for design factor. However, if it's possible that a benefits of one system apply to another system, Synergy effect may be created. In the foreseeable future, soundproof wall may be considered as a road system using fusion technique rather than just functional facility. Therefore, substantial studies for applying multi-functional soundproof wall on the road are needed for the future.

Although the importance of developing reliable and systematic GHG inventory has increased, the GIS/RS-based national scale LULUCF (Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry) sector analysis is insufficient in the context of the Paris Agreement. In this study, the change in $CO_2$ storage of forest land due to land use change is estimated using two GIS/RS methodologies, Sampling and Wall-to-Wall methods, from 2000 to 2010. Particularly, various imagery with sampling data and land cover maps are used for Sampling and Wall-to-Wall methods, respectively. This land use matrix of these methodologies and the national cadastral statistics are classified by six land-use categories (Forest land, Cropland, Grassland, Wetlands, Settlements, and Other land). The difference of area between the result of Sampling methods and the cadastral statistics decreases as the sample plot distance decreases. However, the difference is not significant under a 2 km sample plot. In the 2000s, the Wall-to-Wall method showed similar results to sampling under a 2 km distance except for the Settlement category. With the Wall-to-Wall method, $CO_2$ storage is higher than that of the Sampling method. Accordingly, the Wall-to-Wall method would be more advantageous than the Sampling method in the presence of sufficient spatial data for GHG inventory assessment. These results can contribute to establish an annual report system of national greenhouse gas inventory in the LULUCF sector.
The effects of the wall geometry on the spray-wall impingement process of a hollow-cone fuel spray emerging from a high-pressure swirl injector of the Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine were investigated by means of a numerical method. The ized Instability Sheet Atomization (LISA) & Aerodynamically Progressed Taylor Analogy Breakup (APTAB) model for spray atomization process and the Gosman model were applied to model the atomization and wall impingement process of the spray. The calculation results of spray characteristics, such as a spray development process and a radial distance after wall impingement, compared with the experimental ones by the Laser Induced Exciplex Fluorescence (LIEF) technique. It was found that the radial distance of the cavity angle of 90$^{circ]$ after wall impingement was the shortest and the ring shaped vortex was generated near the wall after spray-wall impingement process.

The application of the reinforced retaining wall has increased in the last 10 years in Korea. The height of reinforced wall is generally limited to less than 15m. It has been reported that the reinforced wall higher than 10m should have higher strength reinforcement or should reduce the lateral earth pressure of the reinforced wall to secure the stability of the wall. In this study, the reinforced retaining wall was constructed 14m high, backfilled by a mixture of soil and cement and instrumented on the reinforcement elements. The instrumented reinforced wall was monitored during and after construction. Field monitoring result shows that a backfill by a mixture of soil and cement reduced the tensile stress developed on the reinforcing elements and the reinforced wall backfilled by a mixture of soil and cement performed successful.
Blood flow simulations in an idealized carotid bifurcation model with considering wall compliance were carried out to investigate the effect of wall elasticity on the wall shear stress and wall solid stress. Canonical waveforms of flowrates and pressure in the carotid arteries were imposed for the boundary conditions. Comparing to rigid wall model, generally, we could find an increased recirculation region at the carotid bulb and an overall reduced wall shear stress. Also, there was appreciable change of flowrate and pressure waveform in longitudinal direction. Solid and wall shear stress concentration occurs at the bifurcation apex.

Developed is a new environment-friendly concrete-block retaining wall system. The conventional analysis methods are not directly applicable because the proposed concrete-block wall system is made of by interlocking the blocks with shear keys. Therefore, the shear analysis as well as stability analysis have been conducted to secure the safety of block-wall system. Overall slope stability analysis was also performed. An appropriate strengthening method was developed to ensure the safety when the block-wall system is relatively high. The method of analysis for strengthening the concrete-block wall system was also proposed. The proposed environment-friendly concrete block retaining wall system shows reasonable safety and can be a good construction method for retaining walls and river bank walls.
