We study a radial basis function collocation method (RBFCM) to discretize a coupled nonlinear Schr$\ddot{o}$dinger equation (CNLSE) that governs a two dimensional rotating Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) with an angular momentum rotation term. We exploit a RBFCM-continuation method (RBFCM-CM) to trace the solution curve of the CNLSE. We compare the performance of the RBFCM-CM with the FEM-CM. We observe that the RBFCM-CM is very robust in a coarse grid for resolving the ground state solution with many vortices when the angular momentum rotation is close to the limit. Numerical results demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the RBFCM-CM for computing the superfluid density of the ground level of the BEC.
The objective of this work was to investigate the interference effects of two-parallel bridge decks on aerodynamic coefficients, vortex-induced vibration, flutter instability and flutter derivatives. The two bridges have significant difference in cross-sections, dynamic properties, and flutter speeds of each isolate bridge. The aerodynamic static tests and aeroelastic tests were performed in TU-AIT boundary layer wind tunnel in Thammasat University (Thailand) with sectional models in a 1:90 scale. Three configuration cases, including the new bridge stand-alone (case 1), the upstream new bridge and downstream existing bridge (case 2), and the downstream new bridge and the upstream existing bridge (case 3), were selected in this study. The covariance-driven stochastic subspace identification technique (SSI-COV) was applied to identify aerodynamic parameters (i.e., natural frequency, structural damping and state space matrix) of the decks. The results showed that, interference effects of two bridges decks on aerodynamic coefficients result in the slightly reduction of the drag coefficient of case 2 and 3 when compared with case 1. The two parallel configurations of the bridge result in vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) and significantly lower the flutter speed compared with the new bridge alone. The huge torsional motion from upstream new bridge (case 2) generated turbulent wakes flow and resulted in vertical aerodynamic damping H1* of existing bridge becomes zero at wind speed of 72.01 m/s. In this case, the downstream existing bridge was subjected to galloping oscillation induced by the turbulent wake of upstream new bridge. The new bridge also results in significant reduction of the flutter speed of existing bridge from the 128.29 m/s flutter speed of the isolated existing bridge to the 75.35 m/s flutter speed of downstream existing bridge.
Structural and compositional heterogeneities of sputter deposited, amorphous $Co_{87}Zr_{4}NB_{9}$ thin films were investigated using TEM and EDS with windowless detector. The films deposited with substrate bias and annealed in rotating magnetc field showed two amorphous phases of Co-rich region and (ZrNb)oxide-rich region, and revealed 'ultra-soft' magnetic properties. Revesible bias-responses and overdamped frequency responses, along with small Hc, Hk and Mr/Ms ratio, give the possibility of ultra-soft magnetic behavior fo CoZrNb thin films. We proposed the vortex type magnetization distribution in remanent state which was correlated with the thin film heterogeneity. Then, the ultra-soft characteristics of the compositionally heterogeneous films were explained by the spin vortices that minimized the total magnetostatic and exchange coupling energies.
This paper represents the numerical analysis on effects of radius ratio in a concentric annulus with a rotating inner cylinder. The numerical model consisted of two cylinder which inner cylinder is rotating and outer cylinder is fix, and the axial direction is used the cyclic condition because of the length for axial direction is assumed infinite. The diameter of inner cylinder is assumed 86.8mm, the numerical parameters are angular velocity and radius ratio. Also, the whole walls of numerical model have no-slip and the working fluid is used water at $20^{\circ}C$. The numerical analysis is assumed the transient state to observe the flow variations by time and the 3-D cylindrical coordinate system. The calculation grid adopted a non-constant grid for dense arrangement near the wall side of cylinder, the standard $k-{\omega}$ high Reynolds number model to consider the effect of turbulence flow and wall, the fully implicit method for time term and the quick scheme for momentum equation. The numerical method is compared with the experimental results by Wereley and Lueptow, and the results are very good agreement. As the results, TVF isn't appeared when Re is small because of the initial flow instability is disappear by effect of the centrifugal force and viscosity. The vortex size is from 0.8 to 1.1 for TVF at various $\eta$, and the traveling distance for wavy vortex have the critical traveling distance for each case.

In the first part of the paper, Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis of the combusting flow within a high-swirl lean premixed gas turbine combustor and over the $1^{st}$ row nozzle guide vanes is presented. In this analysis, the focus of the investigation is the fluid dynamics at the combustor/turbine interface and its impact on the turbine. The predictions show the existence of a highly-rotating vortex core in the combustor, which is in strong interaction with the turbine nozzle guide vanes. This has been observed to be in agreement with the temperature indicated by thermal paint observations. The results suggest that swirling flow vortex core transition phenomena play a very important role in gas turbine combustors with modern lean-premixed dry low emissions technology. As the predictability of vortex core transition phenomena has not yet been investigated sufficiently, a fundamental validation study has been initiated, with the aim of validating the predictive capability of currently-available modelling procedures for turbulent swirling flows near the sub/supercritical vortex core transition. In the second part of the paper, results are presented which analyse such transitional turbulent swirling flows in two different laboratory water test rigs. It has been observed that turbulent swirling flows of interest are dominated by low-frequency transient motion of coherent structures, which cannot be adequately simulated within the framework of steady-state RANS turbulence modelling approaches. It has been found that useful results can be obtained only by modelling strategies which resolve the three-dimensional, transient motion of coherent structures, and do not assume a scalar turbulent viscosity at all scales. These models include RSM based URANS procedures as well as LES and DES approaches.
Open decks are a widely used deck configuration in long-span cable-stayed bridges; however, incorporating aerodynamic countermeasures are advisable to achieve better aerodynamic performance than a bluff body deck alone. A sectional model of an open deck cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 400 m was selected to conduct a series of wind tunnel tests. The influences of five practical aerodynamic countermeasures on flutter and vortex-induced vibration (VIV) performance were investigated and are presented in this paper. The results show that an aerodynamic shape selection procedure can be used to evaluate the flutter stability of decks with respect to different terrain types and structural parameters. In addition, the VIV performance of $\prod$-shaped girders for driving comfortableness and safety requirements were evaluated. Among these aerodynamic countermeasures, apron boards and wind fairings can improve the aerodynamic performance to some extent, while horizontal guide plates with 5% of the total deck width show a significant influence on the flutter stability and VIV. A wind fairing with an angle of $55^{\circ}C$ showed the best overall control effect but led to more lock-in regions of VIV. The combination of vertical stabilisers and airflow-depressing boards was found to be superior to other countermeasures and effectively boosted aerodynamic performance; specifically, vertical stabilisers significantly contribute to improving flutter stability and suppressing vertical VIV, while airflow-depressing boards are helpful in reducing torsional VIV.

The eastern coast of northeastern Brazil (NEB), a coastal land-strip up to 300 km wide and stretching out from Rio Grande do Norte $(5^{\circ}S)$ State down to the south of Bahia State $(17^{\circ}S)$, experiences different rain producing systems, such as distrubances in the south-east trade winds, frontal systems penetration, land-sea breeze circulation and local convection associated with the topography and moisture flux convergence. The annual total rainfall ranges from 600 inland to 3000 mm on the coast. Rainfall totals 5 to 12 times the focal climatic means were recorded in various regions of Alagoas state in January 2004. It was estimated that 46,000 people were homeless, with material damages exceeding US$10 million as a consequence of the ensuing floods. GOES infrared images analysis showed that the main weather system responsible for this anomalously high rainfall totals was an Upper Troposphere Cyclonic Vortex (UTCV), which formed at about a $27^{\underline{\circ}}W\;e\;12^{\underline{\circ}}S$ and remained active for the entire month of January over NEB.
The objective of this study was to develop and verify an effective vortex typed nonfilter nonpoint source pollution reduction device. To verify this pollution reduction device, a total of twelves scenarios (three rainfall intensities${\times}$two states${\times}$two steps) of experiments were conducted using pollutants. First, simulated inflow (rainfall intensity 2.5 mm/hr: $0.00152m^3/s$, rainfall intensity 3.395 mm/hr: $0.00206m^3/s$, rainfall intensity 6.870 mm/hr: $0.00326m^3/s$) was calculated. Second, pollutants (mixture of 25% of four particle sizes) were selected and injected. Third, pollutant removal efficiencies of this device at its initial state and operating states were measured. As a result of analysis based on rainfall intensity, the concentration of pollutants was decreased by the device at initial and operating states at all rainfall intensities. Its pollutant removal efficiency was more than 80%, the standard set by the Ministry of Environment. Its pollutant removal efficiency was gradually increased over time, reaching approximately 90%. Its pollutant removal efficiency was higher in its operating state than that in its initial state. Therefore, nonpoint source pollutants can be effectively removed by this vortex typed nonpoint source pollution reduction device developed in this study.

Two-dimensional spin-up in a rectangular domain is analysed by the numerical computation of the Navier-Stokes equations. The cells are in most cases generated by the vorticity developed near the uper and lower surfaces. Moreover, the movement and interaction of those vortices play a key role in establishing the quasi-steady state. The critical phenomena observed in the previous experiment turns out to be caused by the critical movement of the vortices.
The onset of instability induced by impulsive spin-down of the rigid-body flow placed in the gap between two coaxial cylinders is analyzed by using the energy method. In the present stability analysis the growth rate of the kinetic energy of the base state and also that of disturbances are taken into consideration. In the present system the primary flow is a transient, laminar one. But for the Reynolds number equal or larger than a certain one, i.e. $Re{\geq}Re_G$ secondary motion sets in, starting at a certain time. For $Re{\geq}Re_G$ the dimensionless critical time to mark the onset of vortex instabilities, ${\tau}_c$, is here presented as a function of the Reynolds number Re and the radius ratio ${\eta}$. For the wide gap case of small ${\eta}$, the transient instability is possible in the range of $Re_G{\leq}Re{\leq}Re_S$. It is found that the predicted ${\tau}_c$-value is much smaller than experimental detection time of first observable secondary motion. It seems evident that small disturbances initiated at ${\tau}_c$ require some growth period until they are detected experimentally.
