부방파제의 유동과 와의 생성 및 소멸에 관한 연구 (A Study on Flow and Creation and Dissipation of Vorticity around Rectangular Floating Breakwater)

  • In this study, flow and creation and dissipation of vorticity around rectangular floating breakwater is investigated both experimentally and numerically. The PIV system(Particle image velocimetry) is employed to obtain the velocity field in the vorticity of rectangular structure. The numerical model, combined with ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and the VOF method based on RANS equation, is used to analyze the turbulence structure. In the results of this study, the vorticity is found around conner of rectangular structure at all time domain, and creation and dissipation of vorticity are closely related to wave period. Separation points of phase of vortex due to flow separation for longer period waves are faster then for shorter period waves.

Aerodynamic stability for square cylinder with various corner cuts

  • The flow around a structure has been an important subject in wind engineering research. There are various kinds of unstable aerodynamic phenomena with regard to a bluff body. In order to understand the physical mechanism of aerodynamic and aeroelastic instability of a bluff body, the relations between the flow around structures and the motion of body with various section shapes should be investigated. Based on a series of wind tunnel tests, this paper addresses the aerodynamic stability of square cylinder with various corner cuts and attack angles in the uniform flow. The test results show that the models with corner cut produced generally better behaviour for the galloping phenomenon than the original section. However, the corner cut method can not prevent the occurrence of the vortex-induced vibration(VIV). It is also shown that as the attack angle changes, the optimum size of corner cut changes also. This means that any one specific size of corner cut which shows the best aerodynamic behaviour throughout all the cases of attack angles does not exist. This paper presents an intensive study on obtaining the optimum size of corner cut for the stabilization of aerodynamic behaviour of cylinders.

A linear model for structures with Tuned Mass Dampers

  • In its 90 years of life, the Tuned Mass Damper have found application in many fields of engineering as a vibration reducing device. The evolution of the theory of TMDs is briefly outlined in the paper. A generalised mathematical linear model for the analysis of the response of line-like structures with TMDs is presented. The system matrices of the system including the TMDs are written in the state space as a function of the mean wind speed. The stability of the system can be analysed and the Power Spectral Density Function of any response parameter calculated, taking into account an arbitrary number of modes of vibration as well as an arbitrary number of TMDs, for any given PSDF of the excitation. The procedure can be used to optimise the number, position and mechanical properties of the damping devices, with respect to any response parameter. Due to the stationarity of the excitation, the method is well suited to structures subjected to the wind action. In particular the procedure allows the calculation of the onset galloping wind speed and the response to buffeting, and a linearisation of the aeroelastic behaviour allows its use also for the evaluation of the response to vortex shedding. Finally three examples illustrate the suggested procedure.

해수 환경에서 Al5083-H321 알루미늄 합금의 침식부식 손상에 미치는 유속의 영향과 손상 메카니즘 (Effect of Flow Rate on Erosion Corrosion Damage and Damage Mechanism of Al5083-H321 Aluminum Alloy in Seawater Environment)

  • In this study, erosion tests and erosion-corrosion tests of Al5083-H321 aluminum alloy were conducted at various flow rates in seawater. The erosion tests were conducted at a flow rate of 0 to 20 m/s, and erosion-corrosion tests were performed by potentiodynamic polarization method at the same flow rate. Characteristic evaluation after the erosion test was conducted by surface analysis. Characteristic evaluation after the erosion-corrosion test was performed by Tafel extrapolation and surface analysis. The results of the surface analysis after the erosion test showed that surface damage tended to increase as the flow rate increased. In particular, intermetallic particles were separated due to the breakdown of the oxide film at 10 m/s or more. In the erosion-corrosion test, the corrosion current density increased as the flow rate increased. Additionally, the surface analysis showed that surface damage occurred in a vortex shape and the width of the surface damage tended to increase as the flow rate increased. Moreover, damage at 0 m/s, proceeded in a depth direction due to the growth of pitting corrosion, and the damaged area tended to increase due to acceleration of the intermetallic particle loss by the fluid impact.

Flutter performance of box girders with different wind fairings at large angles of attack

  • The streamlined box is a common type of girders for long-span suspension bridges. Spanning deep canyons, long-span bridges are frequently attacked by strong winds with large angles of attack. In this situation, the flow field around the streamlined box changes significantly, leading to reduction of the flutter performance. The wind fairings have different effects on the flutter performance. Therefore, this study examines the flutter performance of box girders with different wind fairings at large angles of attack. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were carried out to extract the flutter derivatives, and the critical flutter state of a long-span bridge was determined. Further comparisons of the wind fairings were investigated by a rapid method which is related to the input energy by the aerodynamic force. The results show that a reasonable type of wind fairings could improve the flutter performance of long-span bridges at large angles of attack. For the torsional flutter instability, the wind fairings weaken the adverse effect of the vortex attaching to the girder, and a sharper one could achieve a better result. According to the input energies on the girder with different wind fairings, the symmetrical wind fairings are more beneficial to the flutter performance

유도무기 형상의 공력 특성 예측 방법 비교 (A Comparison of Aerodynamic Prediction Methodologies for Missile Configurations)

  • 유도무기 형상에 대한 풍동시험 데이터를 다양한 반경험식 기반 코드 및 CFD해석 코드를 이용한 공력 해석 결과와 비교하였다. 주날개 형상 2종과 주날개와 꼬리날개가 일렬로 늘어선 inline 형상 및 서로 교차되는 interdigitate 형상 등 총 3가지 형상에 대해 시험결과와 비교하였으며, 형상의 특징에 따라 코드별로 차이가 있는 것을 확인하였다. 추가적으로 CFD해석결과를 유동가시화 시험결과와 비교함으로써 CFD 해석 코드가 와류의 흐름을 정확하게 예측하는 것을 확인하였다.

  • 유체진동기에서 분출되는 초음속 진동제트를 이용하여 충격파에 의한 경계층 박리유동을 제어하는 실험적 연구가 이루어졌다. 유체진동기의 위치와 제어압력의 변화가 경사충격파에 의하여 발생되는 경계층 박리유동의 특성에 미치는 영향이 관찰되었고, 이를 위하여 고속 슐리렌, 표면유동가시화, 벽압력 측정, 그리고 정밀 피토관 측정 기법이 적용되었다. 본 연구의 초음속 진동제트의 박리유동 제어 특성은 공기제트 와류를 이용한 기존 제어기법과 정량적으로 비교 분석되었다.

무인항공기용 프로펠러 형상에 따른 추력특성 해석 (Analysis of Thrust Characteristics with Propeller Shape for UAV)

  • A study on propllers for unmaned aerial vehicles is conducted using the open softwares. Since the shape of the propeller is closely related to the thurst characteristics of the propulsion system, adopting an appropriate propeller will significantly reflect stable aerodynamic performances. In this study, propellers for unmanned aerial vehicles were modeled by using OpenVSP and Propel for comparison, the thrust characteristics according to the number of blades and the diameter of the propeller were analyzed. In addition, the tendency of thrust characteristics according to various propeller pitch angles was confirmed. Based on the analysis results of this study, the applicability of the propeller shape to the design of the unmanned aerial vehicle was confirmed. It is shownthat the analysis results of this study can be utilized when modeling the propeller shape in research such as a conceptual design of unmanned aerial vehicle. In this case, it should be noted that OpenVSP does not involve the viscous effect of air.

Experimental and Computational Investigation of Wind Flow Field on a Span Roof Structure

  • Unconventional structures are getting more popular in recent days. Large-span roofs are used for many structures, such as airports, stadiums, and conventional halls. Identifying the pressure distribution and wind load acting on those structures is essential. This paper offers a collaborative study of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and wind tunnel tests for assessing wind pressure distribution for a building with a combined slender curved roof. The hybrid turbulence model, Improved Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation (IDDES), simulates the open terrain turbulent flow field. The wind-induced local pressure coefficients on complex roof structures and the turbulent flow field around the structure were thus calculated based upon open terrain wind flow simulated with the FLUENT software. Local pressure measurements were investigated in a boundary layer wind tunnel simultaneous to the simulation to determine the pressure coefficient distributions. The results predicted by CFD were found to be consistent with the wind tunnel test results. The comparative study validated that the recommended IDDES model and the vortex method associated with CFD simulation are suitable tools for structural engineers to evaluate wind effects on long-span complex roofs and plan irregular buildings during the design stage.

에어-오일 냉각방식에 의한 고경도재료의 선삭 (Turning of Hardened Materials Using the Air-oil Cooling System)

  • The hard turning process defined as a single point turning of materials harder than $H_{R}$C 58 differs from conventional turning because of hardness of the work materials and cutting toos needed in the process. In hard turning, tool life is very short, of the order of a few minutes, during which the cutting tool is subjected to the extremes of stress and temperature. In this regard, it is well known that CBN tool is proper for this process in spite of expensive cost. In this research, we studied the feasibility of the use of the low cost cutting tool such as a aTiN coated tool. To this end, a new cooling system was designed with an air-oil method for reducing tool temperature, which is based on the principle of air vortex flow. That is, the outlet temperature of the air becomes aver 20 .deg. C lower than atmosphere temperature by entering pressurized air of 5kgf/c $m^{2}$ into the inlet. This cooled air ejected to the top of the cutting tool lowered tool temperature, which reduced the wear of a TiN coated tool by the 30% of CBN tool life with respect to the same cutting length.h.
