Purpose This study aimed to determine whether the attenuation coefficient (AC) from attenuation imaging (ATI) was correlated with visual US assessment in patients with hepatic steatosis. Moreover, it aimed to assess whether the patient's blood chemistry results and CT attenuation were correlated with AC. Materials and Methods Patients who underwent abdominal US with ATI between April 2018 and December 2018 were included in this study. Patients with chronic liver disease or cirrhosis were excluded. The correlation between AC and other parameters, such as visual US assessment, blood chemistry results, liver attenuation, and liver-to-spleen (L/S) ratio, were analyzed. AC values according to visual US assessment grades were compared using analysis of variance. Results A total of 161 patients were included in this study. The correlation coefficient between US assessment and AC was 0.814 (p < 0.001). The mean AC values for the normal, mild, moderate, and severe grades were 0.56, 0.66, 0.74, and 0.85, respectively (p < 0.001). Alanine aminotransferase levels were significantly correlated with AC (r = 0.317, p < 0.001). The correlation coefficients between liver attenuation and AC and between L/S ratio and AC were -0.702 and -0.626, respectively (p < 0.001). Conclusion Visual US assessment and AC showed a strong positive correlation with the discriminative value between the groups. Computed tomography attenuation and AC showed a strong negative correlation.
The new HDTV technologies provide crystal clear images and surrounding sounds for broadcasting screen in order to serve higher quality of broadcasting. They have four times the resolution of conventional TV and handle 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio images. Due to such technological shift, the function of Character Graphic has been particularly revaluated: it used to be only a subsidiary method to literally deliver visual images, but nowadays it is considered one of the essential elements capable of giving higher values to broadcasting programs. And there is an urgent need for changing its attributes such as fonts, sizes, colors, moving speeds to fit to bigger screen ratio and much more qualified images of HDTV. To meet such a need, Delphi surveys are made twice with three groups of TV production staffs: Art Directors, CG Designers and Production & Transmission team, these groups which are divided on the basis of their roles in broadcasting production process. With the results of these surveys, this article analyzes how all of the attributes of Character Graphic have affected the media users' Visual Perception, and then, suggests a new format designed in OSMU(One Source Multi Use) by which TV character graphics can be properly transmitted to various media formats.
This paper presents a robust watermarking approach that the frequency coefficients of the binary logo image are inserted in the DC and each frequency area of the host image for copyright protection of image data. We use the 1 level discrete wavelet transform(DWT) coefficients of 64*64 binary logo image as watermark because the presentation of a recognizable mark is much more convincing than numerical values and allows the opportunity to exploit the human visual system's ability to recognize a pattern. The proposed method makes use of 1-level DWT of the logo image, the DWT coefficients of the logo image are inserted by human visual system(HVS) and region of interest(ROI) in the frequency domain of the host image. Thereby, the detected logo image confirms copyright. Because small size watermark is inserted by HVS and ROI, the results confirm the superiority of the Proposed method on invisibility and robustness.
A decision tree analysis was performed by categorizing the idea sketches produced in the group environment into three different levels of visual stimuli ambiguity (vague, ambiguous, and definite) and two idea-sharing situations (before and after). We then examined the predicted values for the creativity of each group's idea sketches, the factors that led to high creativity scores, and their standards. The results of the analyses indicated that the Resistance to Premature Closure, Originality, Elaboration, ness, and Similarity represented important predictors of the creativity of design idea sketches according to the level of ambiguity of the visual stimuli used and whether ideas were shared or not. The group presented with vague stimuli after sharing ideas scored the highest predicted creativity value and the group presented with definite stimuli after sharing ideas scored the lowest predicted creativity value.
In this paper, we propose a new salient region detection method in an image. The algorithm is based on the characteristics of human's bottom-up visual attention. Several features known to influence human visual attention like color, intensity and etc. are extracted from the each regions of an image. These features are then converted to importance values for each region using its local competition function and are combined to produce a saliency map, which represents the saliency at every location in the image by a scalar quantity, and guides the selection of attended locations, based on the spatial distribution of saliency region of the image in relation to its Perceptual importance. Results shown indicate that the calculated Saliency Maps correlate well with human perception of visually important regions.
Purpose: This study examined the effects of subjective visual vertical perception and head orientation on static balance control. Methods: The subjects were 25 young and healthy adults. The vertical perception was measured using a subjective visual vertical (SVV), and the Center of pressure (COP) parameter was analyzed by continuously measuring the movement of the COP to determine the changes in static postural control. The group was divided based on a deviation of 3° in SVV (11 of SVV≥3°, 14 of SVV<3°) and measured with different head orientations: front, up, down, left, and right in the upright and tandem positions, respectively. Results: In the upright position, the SVV≥3° group had significantly larger values for all COP parameters (Sway length, Surface, Delta X, Delta Y, and Average speed) compared to the SVV<3° group (p<0.05). In the tandem stance, only the Ellipse Surface value was significantly larger among the COP parameters in the group with SVV≥3° compared to the group with SVV<3°(p<0.05). In contrast, the other COP parameters were not significantly different (p>0.05). The effects of static balance control on the head orientation were not statistically significant (p>0.05), and the interactions between the subjective vertical perception and head orientation were not significant (p>0.05). Conclusion: These results suggest that pathological deviations in SVV are associated with impaired static balance performance. This study can provide a therapeutic rationale for using visuospatial cognitive feedback training to improve the static balance.
The thoracoscopic study was reported on 21 cases of spontaneous pneumothorax requiring surgical management, and clinical values of thoracoscopic examination on spontaneous pneumothorax were also discussed. patients were treated in the Department of .Thoracic Surgery, Hanyang University Hospital for the period of two Years from May 1972 to April 1974. For exact detection of etiologic factors on spontaneous pneumothorax, the thoracoscopic examination in the intrapleural space was performed in parallel with X-ray study. this study, the difference of diagnostic and therapeutic significance between radiological and thoracoscopic findings were observed and compared simultaneously. The results are summerized as follows: Patients age was distributed between 3 and 70 years old with highest incidence in the age group of sixty decade [33. 3%], and sex ratio of male to female was 5:2. The tuberculous processes which developed superficial subpleural layer in the lung parenchyme, on the pulmonary surface could be observed by thoracoscopic examination in a characteristic picture. detection ratio of pulmonary tuberculosis by the radiologic study to that by thoracoscopy was 8:2. The adhesion between the visceral and the parietal pleura which could possibly make a rupture of the alveola and the visceral pleura was found to be localized in a small area of the lung surface. The other part of the lung surface was free of the adhesion and, therefore, the movement of the lung took place completely without any difficulty. The ruptured orifice of the pleura and pathological changes surrounding the orifice can be detected by thoracoscopy, but not by other means such as radiologic examination. A single tuberculous bleb and multiple emphysematous blebs were found on 6 cases out of 21 cases of spontaneous pneumothorax. Among these cases, radiologic Study revealed the bleb only in one patient. On the other hand, the blebs were found in all the six patients by means of thoracoscopic examination. It gives the detection ratio of bleb by radiologic study to that by thoracoscopy was 1:6. By thoracoscopy, the rupture on the lung surface were visualized on the 10 patients out of a total of 21 patients [10 patients of visual rupture]. However, the rupture of the pleura was not observed on the rest of 11 patients even by thoracoscopic examination [11 patients of non visual rupture]. Five patients [50%] out of ten who had the visual rupture on the lung surface was required a surgical operation to remove pneumothorax. For the patients who were detected to have the visual rupture of the pleura by thoracoscopy, be considered in the early stage of closed thoracostomy. of 21 patients, 16 patients [11 patients of non visual rupture of the pleura and 5 patients of visual rupture of the pleura] who received no surgical management, were treated with closed thoracostomy with continuous suction, and the` pneumothorax was healed completely up in each cases. Therapeutic measures for the remaining 5 patients of visual rupture of the pleura who were subjected to surgical approach for radical treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax were accordingly complicated, and the following different procedures were properly indicated case by case, that is, rib resection thoracostomy, simple closure of ruptured visceral pleura, wedged resection of the lung, and lobectomy.
Purpose: This study was performed to provide indicator of expected aniseikonia by correcting refractive error and to investigate influential factors on aniseikonia. Methods: 20 college students (14 males, 6 females, a mean age of $22.50{\pm}2.72$ years) were selected as subjects whose refractive error with spherical equivalent were within ${\pm}0.50$ D, corrected visual acuity were more than 1.0, and aniseikonia values by AWAYA were less than 1%. After correcting refractive error with spectacles in anisometropia induced by wearing contact lens on their dominant eye or non-dominant eye, practical measured values of aniseikonia were compared with theoretical expected values of it by the formula of spectacle magnification. Results: Practical measured values were higher than theoretical expected values in induced aniseikonia over the whole range of diopter of wearing contact lens. And there was higher measured value of aniseikonia in case of higher diopter of wearing contact lens to induce anisometropia and correcting refractive error with spectacles of (+) diopter after wearing contact lens of (-) diopter to induced anisometropia in dominant eye of women. Conclusions: It is considered that dominant eye plays more important role for visual function in induced aniseikonia and factors such as the induced eye of aniseikonia, the diopter of wearing contact lens, and gender have influenced on aniseikonia.
The objective of this research was to examine the effects of lumber stabilization exercise and a general physiotherapy program for caregivers with chronic low back pain. Sixteen people participated in this study and were randomly assigned to two groups for either lumbar stabilization exercise or for general physiotherapy, respectively. The experiment was performed for eight weeks. To examine the general as well as the medical characteristics of the participants, the following measurements were used: Visual Analogue Scale (VAS); Oswestry Disability Index (ODI); Back Performance Scale (BPS); Roland - Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ); and Beck Depression Index (BDI). To compare the general and medical characteristics of the participants in the two groups, an independent t test were used. During the experiment, a paired t test was conducted to determine whether there was a significant difference in the values of VAS, ODI, BPS, RMDQ, and BDI before and after the experiment. To examine the difference in the VAS, ODI, BPS, RMDQ, and BDI values in the two groups, ANCOVA was used with pre test values as a covariate. According to the test results, in the lumbar stabilization exercise group, the VAS, ODI, BPS, RMDQ, and BDI values showed a statistically significant difference before and after the test (p<.05). In comparison, in the general physiotherapy program group, only the ODI and BPS values showed a statistically significant level of improvement. Regarding the degree of improvement, participants in the lumbar stabilization exercise group showed statistically significant progress compared to those in the general physiotherapy group. In summary, lumbar stabilization exercise is regarded as more effective than general physiotherapy for treating caregivers with chronic low back pain. In future studies, it will be useful to expand the research and to examine the long term effects of lumbar stabilization exercise on workers.

Background: The primary aim of this study is to statistically analyze and compare the difference in treatment outcomes based on the frequency and duration of acupotomy treatment for lumbar disk herniation. Methods: The evaluation of efficacy and safety involved using visual analog scale (VAS), numeric rating scale (NRS), Roland Morris disability questionnaire (RMDQ), EuroQol 5-dimention (EQ-5D), and similar parameters. This was achieved through the establishment of a comparable cohort using propensity score matching. Group A comprised 46 patients who underwent 4 sessions of acupotomy treatment for 2 weeks, while Group B consisted of 15 patients who received 6 acupotomy sessions for 3 weeks. Results: For Group A, the average amount of change in VAS values at weeks 4 and 6 was significantly decreased. However, the average amount of change in RMDQ values was not significant. Notably, the average amount of change of EQ-5D values at week 6 increased significantly. As for Group B, the average amount of change of NRS values in weeks 2 and 3 was significantly decreased. Conversely, the average amount of change in RMDQ and EQ-5D values was not significant. In comparing the 2 groups at the final follow-up, the average amount of change in all evaluation values was not significant. Further, no significant interaction effect was observed in the changes over time in all evaluation values between the 2 groups. Conclusion: This study establishes that there was no statistically significant difference in pain reduction, functional impairment, and quality of life improvement between 2 group.
