A Study on the Relationship between the Museum Display Wall Composition and the Visual Spatial Configuration - Focusing on the room to room art museum - (미술관 전시벽 구성과 시각적 공간구조의 상관성에 관한 연구 - 개실형 미술관을 중심으로 -)

  • A relationship between the museum display wall composition and the visual spatial configuration is investigated in this study. From the previous research, existing types are classified in order to define the exhibition space of room to room. Based on the classification, an open room to room of art museum is defined as a room to room of museum, and the plane of museums is investigated. With the museums under this study, the wall of a room to room exhibition space as well as the visual spatial configuration are analyzed depending on the location of an opening, centering on the composition of unit space. In addition, two types of spatial composition are compared depending on the location of the opening. One type of spatial composition is lied on a straight line with visual continuity, and the visual line is found to be simple. Whereas, the other type has an invisible configuration between spaces due to a criss-crossed opening, so the space is perceived to be closed and disconnected. When comparing these two types, the advantage and disadvantage of each space are compared. As a result, a similar type and size of unit space are derived. In addition, the ratio of the opening compared to the total wall was found to be uniform, and a distribution of the opening and walls were found.

A Study on the Relationship of Visual Aesthetics Design and Performance in the Internet Web Site (인터넷 웹사이트의 시각적 디자인과 성과와의 관계에 관한 연구)

  • This study focuses on visual aesthetic factors in the apparel web site design. 103 undergraduates participated in the evaluation of six internet web sites. The evaluation were recorded and analyzed by using the inspection method and a questionnaire. Findings of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the result of SPSS-factor analysis shows that there are 2 distinct factors; 'classical aesthetics' and 'expressive aesthetics'. 'classical aesthetics' and 'expressive aesthetics' can be described by visual aesthetic design. This conceptual confusion relating to 'visual aesthetic design' can be clarified by these findings. Second, as a result of multiple regression analyses, 'classical aesthetics' and 'expressive aesthetics' have a positive influence on 'interactivity' and 'web site evaluation'. This research clarifies the concepts of 'engagement' of Rosen & Purinton as the 'interactivity' between users and web sites. Finally, this study suggests that 'good design' for internet web sites depends on understanding how to attain the appropriate balance between 'classical aesthetics' and 'expressive aesthetics', based on the target customer.

An egornomic study on visual accomodation and pupil functions during the observation of binocular 3-D images (이안식 입체영상 관찰자 조절과 공동기능에 관한 인간공학적인 연구)

  • To put the binocular 3-D images system into practical use, it is required to investigate the relationship between the system and men and to make ergonomic evaluation of the system. In this study, we perform a comparative analysis of the changes in the accommodation and pupil functions before and afer observing binocular 3-D images a sthe visual distance varies. From the experiment, we obtained the following results: (1) The discordance in the distance informatioons on the accommodation and pupil functions when obwerving 3-D images is compensated by the miosis and altering the focal depth. (2) From the consideration of the effect of the visual distance condition on the visual functions, it is thoughth that the visual functions are stabilized at the dark focus in the sense that the changes in the tension and relazation afer observing the 3-D images are minimized.

Effects of Food Styling Visual Elements in Tteok Café Menus on Consumer Buying Habits (떡 카페 메뉴의 푸드스타일링 시각적 요소가 소비자 구매에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the correlation between consumer's buying habits and food styling visual elements. Differentiated and original techniques were used to determine whether or not visual elements in tteok menus reflect the aesthetic needs of consumers without altering the nutrition of tteok. The targeted tteok cafes were in Jeonju Hanok Village, which is a tourist attraction in Korea. First, sub-factors of food styling visual elements applied to tteok $caf{\acute{e}}$ menus such as shape, size/volume, color, and texture all had significantly positive effects on customer satisfaction, proving that food styling visual effects applied to tteok $caf{\acute{e}}$ menus have significant effects on customer satisfaction. Second, sub-factors of food styling visual elements applied to tteok $caf{\acute{e}}$ menus all had significantly positive effects on buying habits. Third, customer satisfaction of menus had a significant effect on buying habits, as proven by previous studies. Fourth, the effects of customer satisfaction on the relationship between food styling visual factors applied to tteok $caf{\acute{e}}$ menus and buying habits were investigated.

An Analysis on The Visual Configuration of an Exhibition Space in Art Museum - Focusing on an Exhibition space Room-to-room - (미술관 전시공간의 시각구조 분석 - 개실형 전시공간의 분석을 중심으로 -)

  • In the spatial configuration of room-to-room art museums, openings and walls are important physical factors, and openings are a medium for connecting spaces. Also, by spatially composing walls and openings, spaces can be connected visually and physically, and movements and directions may vary depending on the location or size of walls and openings. In this study, 5 museums are investigated: Sainsbury Wing in London, Gemaldegalerie In Berlin, Alte Pinakotkek in Munich, Neue Pinakothek in Munich, and Staatsgalerie Stuttgart in Stuttgart. Using DepthMap program, the characteristics of visual-spatial composition of each museum are derived by comparing the Connectivity, Visual integration, and Isovist maximum radial. From an analysis of spatial distribution, a relationship with visibility is investigated. The results of this study showed that the combination of visual axial lines affect the spatial configuration of the room-to-room museums. Depending on the location of opening, the museums can be classified as follows: 1) Museums with the 1st visual axial line and the 2nd and 3rd auxiliary visual axial lines ; 2) museums with several equal visual axial lines; and 3) museums with only center axial line.

  • It is not too much to say that invention of image divided the 19th and 20th century. Rapidly developed, produced and played images have a stronger effect on human beings and society. Today, images have an influence on forming interpersonal relationships by means of consciousness and ideas of new dimension, creating new image relationship different from verbal relationship between people. Especially moving image(image) is unlike other images, an image has unique psychological characteristics of its on. An image stimulates all the five human senses as well as sight, is easer to access and perceive than other media, and unable to control image development passively in general but get absorbed unconsciously very quickly. On 21th century As we are exposed to image whether consciously or unconsciously everyday, consideration on current times driving human beings and social relationship in an abnormal way is needed. Furthermore, new view of image study suggest to new relation of image that is a key factor to recover humanity and functions of society.

Cross-cultural Comparison of Landscape Preference for the National Park: An Approach from a Typicality of Landscape (국립공원 선호의 문화권간 비교: 경관의 전형성으로부터의 접근)

  • This study has a purpose of examining the relationship between visual preference and typicality of natural landscapes in view of cross-cultural comparison. Both the photographs of the Cairngorms National Park of Scotland and those of the Jirisan National Park of Korea were used for selecting typical landscape of each National Park. To measure landscape preferences, a photo-questionnaire was implemented to the visitors of each National Park. Results showed that there was a significant relationship between age and number of visits and that Cairngorms visitors had visited the Park more frequently. The high typicality of Cairngorms landscape was negatively related to visual preferences. On the other hand, in case of Jirisan visitors, the high typicality of Jirlsan landscape was positively related to visual preferences. Although there was a significant relationship between typicality and visual preference, the way in which they were related differed between the separate cultural regions.

Analysis of Elementary School Students' Visual Representation Competence for Shadow Phenomenon (그림자 현상에 대한 초등학생의 시각적 표상 능력)

  • In previous study, visual representation competence taxonomy (VRC-T), which is composed of two dimensions, was developed for the purpose of promoting effective visual representation use and research in science education. In this study, elementary school students' visual representation competence for shadow phenomenon was investigated using VRC-T. In terms of visual representation competence, 'interpretation' was the highest score, followed by 'construction' and 'integration'. It also showed that students' visual representation competence was not high even after learning shadow-related units in the regular curriculum. On the other hand, text-based scientific knowledge was not correlated with all categories of visual representation competence. This indicates that there is a need to emphasize visual representation more in science class. Finally, hierarchical relationship among cognitive processes of VRC-T was explored according to ordering theory. If the tolerance level is somewhat loosened, a linear hierarchical relationship was found between the six cognitive processes. This suggests that VRC-T is an analytical framework that can be useful when designing assessment tools, tasks, and science class activities to enhance visual representation competence.

The Visual Expression in a Store by the Characteristics of Facade (FACADE특성에 따른 매장의 시각적 표현에 관한 연구)

  • Display in commercial space is one of the most important fields in modem advanced industrial sectors as means of promoting the volume of sales. Additionally, consummers' preferences are more complicated and various than before because of improvement of quality of life. In order to satisfy the various comsumer's desire, the role of display must be an important factor in commercial space. On the other hand, the facade of commercial buildings in the concept of visual merchandising has important effect on the commercial space such as layout of a shop, setting up presentation space, and visual expression. The structure of the facade of the store provides not only an advertising function but also an important position to the composition of external space. Besides, enterance space is a part of a store, and it is closely related to outdoor space. Therefore, the relationship between a store and outdoor space should be carefully considered in terms of functional and expressional problems.This study introduces all sort of characteristics of the facade of enterance speac in the commercial buildings. It also investigates the relationship among the characteristics. Moreover, it analyzes the effect of facade style on shop environment such as zonning, inducement plan, and allocation plan. For the purpose of this study, 57 fashion stores, located in Myung-Dong(Seoul), are investigated. Based on the sample, this study analyzes the relationship between the facade style and visual presentation. Finally, it suggests the desirable direction of space composition based upon the concept of visual merchandising.
