  • Cooperative networks eliminate shadow area using relay and enhance communication performance by creating virtual multi input multi output (MIMO) system. In this paper, we analyze the performance of cooperative networks which use coherent modulation scheme in source-relay nodes and differential modulation scheme in relay-destination nodes depending on the relay location. We consider the performance analysis of systems with and without the direct transmission between source and destination node where the direct transmission adopts differential modulation scheme. In addition, the performance of the system with fully differential modulation scheme is compared with the system using partially differential modulation scheme. The performance of system is based on the symbol error rate between source and destination node.

  • In this paper, we introduce an efficient energy management using a notion of virtual energy system for shared solar-powered sensor network. Virtual energy system is an abstraction that allows sensor network applications on a node to reserve their own fractions of the shared solar cell and the shared rechargeable battery, hence achieving logically partition of a shared renewable power source. Our results show that our design and implementation are reliable, lightweight and efficient, allowing proper isolation of energy consumption among applications.

  • Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have merged to become one of the most promising applications of wireless ad hoc networks. A defer timer has been used in some of existing network protocols to solve a set of problems in WSNs. We first investigate the use of a defer timer to fully take the advantage of it in WSNs. We demonstrate that by properly setting up the defer timers, many difficult issues in sensor networks, such as power limitation, the broadcast storm problem, and the construction of the virtual backbone, can be easily tackled with only the help of simple localized information at each node. In this paper, we present the power of a defer timer in the design of dominating set construction protocol for broadcasting. The ns 2 computer simulations are carried out for performance study.

  • Most wavelength assignment algorithms assume that every node has infinite ADMs and I/O blocking is excluded. Furthermore wavelengths continue to occur intermittently in the network using existing algorithms. This can result in increased link blocking under dynamic traffic circumstances. In audition, it can create time-complexity problems such as O(W $N^3$) in the worst case scenario. In this paper, we propose a new wavelength assignment algorithm which has time-complexity of O(W $N^2$) and considers both I/O and link blocking. The basic idea is to maximize the number of links where wavelengths will be assigned continuously after present assignment. As a result, the number of intermittent wavelengths is minimized, and blocking probabilities are decreased.

  • The Genetic algorithm is well known as an efficient algorithm which can solve a difficult optimization problems. Recently, there has been increasing interest in applying genetic algorithm to problems related to network design. In this paper, we propose a two step genetic algorithm for designing an optimum virtual path network(VPN) for a given physical network and traffic demand. The first step is to span route between every node pair in the network. The second step assigns VPs to minimize the total number of VPs, the number of VPs carried by a link, and the VPs hopcount. The propose algorithm is evaluated using computer simulation. The result shows that the VPN generated by the proposed algorithm is good in minimizing the number of VPs, the load on a link, and the VPs hopcount.

  • In this paper, we proposed a RSS based cooperative localization algorithm using VRN for wireless sensor networks, which can estimate the BN position. The proposed localization system monitoring all nodes estimates a position of BN, and calculates an intersection area with cooperative localization. From the results, we confirm that BN intersection area is reduced as the number of RN is increased. In addition, the fewer RN exists, the more iteration needs at least 4 times. Moreover, the propose algorithm using 4 RNs is improved 71.6% estimation performance than conventional method. Therefore, the cooperative localization algorithm with VRN provides higher localization accuracy than RSS based conventional method.

  • We present a one-dimensional annular plate element with which the in-plane vibration of full disks can be analyzed efficiently and accurately by using the FEM. Its elementary mass matrix and stiffness matrix are derived, respectively, from the virtual work by effective forces and the virtual strain energy. The static deformation modes obtained from an integration of the differential equilibrium equations of the annular plate are used as interpolation functions of the one-dimensional annular plate element. The in-plane natural vibration characteristics of a 2-step full disk and a uniform full disk are analysed. Its results are compared with the results obtained by utilizing two-dimensional 8-node quadrilateral plane elements and cyclic symmetry of the disk. And also, by comparing with the theoretical results of previous researchers, the efficiency and accuracy of the presented element are verified.

  • Due to the high growth of SNS population, service scalability is one of the critical issues to be addressed. The cloud environment provides the flexible computing and storage resources for services deployment, which fits the characteristics of scalable SNS deployment. However, if the SNS related information is not properly placed, it will cause unbalance load and heavy transmission cost on the storage virtual machine (VM) and cloud data center (CDC) network. In this paper, we characterize the SNS into a graph model based on the users' associations and interest correlations. The node weight represents the degree of associations, which can be indexed by the number of friends or data sources, and the link weight denotes the correlation between users/data sources. Then, based on the SNS graph, the two-step algorithm is proposed in this paper to determine the placement of SNS related data among VMs. Two k-means based clustering schemes are proposed to allocate social data in proper VM and physical servers for pre-configured VM and dynamic VM environment, respectively. The experimental example was conducted and to illustrate and compare the performance of the proposed schemes.

  • In this paper, an integrated voice/data packet network with window flow control is modeled by a colsed multichain queueing system, and its performance is analyzed by the mean value analysis method. Particularly, for the analysis of a packet network having various kinds of messages with different priority classes, we introduce an approach based on the mean value analysis and the concept of effective capacity. By the mathematical analysis and computer simulation, we obtain the following network statistics in the steady state: Mean buffer occupancy at each node, utilization of link throughput of a virtual channel, and mean delay time of each message. Our iterative analysis method can predict the link data status in most cases within about 10 percent of accurady, and the statistics of voice messages and external data within 5 percent as compared to simulation results.
