Brian Ascalon Roley's American Son, one of the outstanding Filipino American novels after the LA riots, critically deals with a racial issue of his community which has been intermingled with the myth of model minority. Gabe and Thomas, considered as obedient Filipino younger immigrants, are asked to achieve the American dream as a way to place themselves at the center of the mainstream white society. However, they recognize that they cannot be accepted as a suitable subject for the invincible racism deeply rooted in the society. While Tomas refuses to become a model minority by identifying himself with the Mexican, Gabe is expected to become an idealistic subject of model minority by his mother since he complies with the rules of the mainstream society. However, he accepts his brother's violent way of life in that violence is necessary to protect his family from the racial discrimination in America. Though he is his mother's hope for model minority, he recognizes the only condition to achieve her expectation is the American society where there is no racism at all. However, by taking the case of Gabe and Thomas, Roley suggests that the younger generation of Filipino American immigrants have no choice but to accept violence to survive in the American society because racism always threatens their life.

This paper aims to numerically investigate violent sloshing in a partially filled three-dimensional (3D) prismatic tank with or without a baffle, further to clarify the suppressing performance of the baffle and the damping mechanism of sloshing. The numerical model is based on a Cartesian grid multiphase flow method, and it is well validated by nonlinear sloshing in a 3D rectangular tank with a vertical baffle. Then, sloshing in an unbaffled and baffled prismatic tank is parametrically studied. The effects of chamfered walls on the resonance frequency and the impact pressure are analyzed. The resonance frequencies for the baffled prismatic tank under different water depths and baffle heights are identified. Moreover, we investigated the effects of the baffle on the impact pressure and the free surface elevation. Further, the free surface elevation, pressure and vortex contours are analyzed to clarify the damping mechanism between the baffle and the fluid.

Delinquency young people committed society as evolves is also increasing rapidly. Juvenile delinquency that occurred recently is serious. As a result, young people are feeling fear of delinquency. Fear of delinquency young people feel, a major impact on the personality development of the youth of the period of growth. In particular, the violent delinquency, to give a physical impact, damage youth receives is large. As well as physical damage to people in and around the juvenile victims, given the damage mental serious form, fear violent delinquency has been shown in many previous studies. Therefore, in this study you have the purpose to study the effects on the reaction of juvenile victims for fear of delinquency caused by the delinquency of violence. Set randomly on campus and external experience and damage directly or indirectly, are classified into action evasive action defensive reaction of fear by delinquency, factors that affect the risk caused by violent delinquency, Daegu after conducting a survey of high school students in general in the areas in which we tested the hypothesis. As a result of the verification, exerting a significant influence in order to act defensive becomes clear, experience of direct damage and experience of damage indirect fear of delinquency, avoided experience of direct damage it was found to exert a significant effect on to the action manner.

This study examined the overall effect size of the batterer intervention programs aimed at reducing violent behavior. This study calculated the 18 results and the 115 effect sizes of 11 theses published from 2000 to 2017 in Korea. It was demonstrated that the effect of an offender's program on the change in violent behavior was significant at both the practical and treatment level. The effect size was high in the order of control behavior, emotional violence, and physical violence. The effects of dependent variables other than violence were also researched. The batterer program positively changed the participant's attitudes in terms of sex-role and partner violence. Furthermore, it decreased the level of anger and depression, and enhanced self-esteem and communication skills thus increasing satisfaction in marital relationships. In addition, this study examined the factors that influence the effect of the offender's program in terms of the decrease of violent behavior. Upon analysis, it was examined that the moderating effect was great in the approach model and counsel form. More specifically, it was revealed that the feminist-cognitive behavioral models had a greater effect than the compromise model or single model. In terms of counsel forms, group counseling formed only of male offenders had greater effect than couples treatment group. Based on these findings, this study discussed the practical means for increasing the effect of batterer intervention programs.

The objectives of this study are developing the new types of elderly abuse and finding the variables affecting the new elderly abuse type. And This is at suggesting the intervention strategies preventing the elderly abuse. The 350 cases of elderly abuse reported in Elder Protection Agency was analysed. Data is analyzed by using statistical techniques including cluster analysis and logit-regression. New type of elderly abuse is "violent elderly abuse" and "avoiding elderly abuse". Violent elderly abuse is very connected with directly violence speech and behavior and avoiding elderly abuse is connected with neglect and abandonment, self-neglect. The elderly's instrumental activity of daily living and education, the offender's sex and education and living together type of the elderly - the offender, and the offender's care burden are the casual factors of the new type of elderly abuse. Based on the results, the various service programmes for the abused elderly is developed and implemented.

As an aging population is increasing, more elderly people are exposed to traumatic stress. Although this issue has received more attention in some literature, it is clear that numerous questions exist in aftermath of trauma exposure in elderly people. In case of Korean elderly suffers, traumatic experience includes the Korean war, military dictatorship and violent demonstration. Studies regarding elderly PTSD is not active and a lot of patients are not still engaged in treatment. We suggest that concerns that are unique to this population are necessary.

All 10 cases of spontaneous rupture of esophagus had violent vomiting as precursor. 9 patients were male, 1 case was female. Chief complaints were chest pain and dyspnea. Chest P \ulcornerA and esophagogram were mainly used as confirm diagnostic tool. Perforation sites of all cases were at distal esophagus near the G-E junction. 6 cases were received primary repair within 24 hrs, other cases were managed with surgical drainage after exclusion and diversion of esophagus. Empyema was the most frequent complication. Other complications were sepsis, pneumonia, leaking etc. Overall mortality rate was about 70.0%.

The goal of this paper is to select and analyze the sound for robot which can help and serve the big retail market, as the part of research for design foundation development of Human Robot Interface. The sounds which are related with activity, such as thanks, reject, agony,absurdity, gladness, approval, were selected among targeted sounds with 2 step SD method. The result for using Quantitative analysis model-3 with psychological similar degree of selected sound was argued with 'the brightness of sound' and 'violent of sound'.

With flourishing of new facilities, we are now set to expand the horizon of the human knowledge of the universe deep into the very beginning of the cosmic history of astronomical objects. In such an endeavor, extreme objects and cosmic events such as violent cosmic explosions, rapidly growing supermassive black holes, and proto-clusters of galaxies, are the objects to be investigated in order to unveil what was happening in the very early universe. We will discuss what we have learned and are expecting to discover from such extreme objects about the infant universe both currently and in future, highlighting some of our recent works.
