Poly vinyl chloride (PVC) was chemically modified, and used for ultrafiltration to analyze the performance. Non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) method was used to prepare membranes. The neat PVC membrane was casted and used as a control membrane. Modified membrane was prepared by reacting PVC with ethanolamine (EA) in the casting solution (labeled as CM-PVC). Pure water permeability (PWP) was evaluated by measuring pure water flux. Humic acid was used as model foulant solute to analyze flux and rejection ability of membranes. Flux and rejection data of neat and modified membranes were compared to prove the improvement in the filtration performance. The experimental results showed that for PVC and CM-PVC, PWP was calculated to be ~64 and ${\sim}143L/m^2{\cdot}h$, respectively, and the rejection of humic acid was found to be 98% and 100%, respectively. TGA was carried out to analyze the effect of chemical modification on the thermal stability of polymer. FT-IR analysis was another characterization technique used for the comparative study.

A triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is a device that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy, and has been considered as a substitute for continuous power supply due to its high performance, simple structure and eco-friendliness. Recently, it is important to develop a TENG using a non-toxic material in order to use it as a power source for wearable, attachable, and body-embeddable electronics. Here, we developed a human friendly TENG using polyvinyl chloride (PVC) gel containing acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC), a non-toxic plasticizer. PVC gels were fabricated using various ratios of PVC and ATBC, and optimized by investigating dielectric properties, surface potential, output performance, and durability. The PVC gel based TENG generates output signals of 73 V and 4.3 μA, i.e., a 5-fold enhancement in the output power compared to pristine PVC-based TENG. In addition, the PVC gel can be stretched over 500% of strain. This study is expected to be helpful in the future development of non-toxic wearable TENG.

Organic-inorganic hybrid sol-gel matrices were used as hosts for chloro (5, 10, 15, 20-tetraphenylporphyrinato) cobalt (III) (Co[TPP]Cl), a known ionophore for nitrite. The sol-gel precursor was prepared by the reaction of (3-isocyanopropyl) triethoxysilane with 1,4-butanediol. An appropriate amount of the anion-exchanger, tridodecylmethylammonium chloride (TDMAC) and the plasticizer, tributylphosphate (DBP) were used as membrane additives. On mixing with an acidic catalyst, the sol-state precursors slowly gelled, yielding a membrane in which the active components, Co[TPP]Cl and TDMAC, were encapsulated. The performances of the sol-gel membrane-based electrodes were compared to those of Co[TPP]Cl-based poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) membrane electrodes. Membranes with a molar ratio of Co[TPP]Cl: TDMAC (1 : 0.1) showed reasonable response slopes toward nitrite. The response slopes were typically 53 mV/decade between $10^{-5.4}$ and $10^{-1.0}\;M$. Selectivities toward nitrite over hydrophilic and small anions such as chloride were somewhat inferior to those observed with PVC-based membranes, but selectivities over lipophilic anions were quite similar. Reduced asymmetry potentials due to protein adsorption were found to occur with the sol-gel matrix relative to PVC-based films when the sensors were employed as a detector in flow-through configuration.
In this study, we have intended to provide the related construction manuals with technical materials and to reduce the defects in the on-site construction, with reviewing the adhesive properties of joint parts according to change of temperature and speed of hot-air sealer for the products that have been made of polyvinyl chloride(PVC) materials in the single waterproof sheet. The result from the experiment is shown as following. 1) Bond strength was shown as high as the welding speed became slower. For the hot-air welding velocity with 3~6m/min, a stable bond strength has been shown in the range of the hot-air welding temperature with $175{\sim}210^{\circ}C$, while it has been shown in the range of the hot-air welding temperature with $210^{\circ}C$, when the hot-air welding velocity is between 9~12m/min. 2) If the hot-air welding temperature is lower, the adhesive strength has been shown as higher in the section where the hot-air welding velocity is low, while the adhesive strength has been also shown as higher in the section where the velocity is fast as the hot-air welding temperature becomes higher. The highest bond strength has been shown in the velocity with 3m/min for the hot-air welding temperature with $140{\pm}10^{\circ}C$, which is rather low. At $175{\pm}10^{\circ}C$, a high bond strength has been shown in the velocity with 3~6m/min, while the high bond strength has been shown in the velocity with 6~9m/min at $210{\pm}10^{\circ}C$.

Thermally expandable microspheres were used as post-treatment initiators of potassium persulfate, sodium bisulfite, and sodium sulfide in order to improve the foaming ability and whiteness when foaming a mixture of thermally expandable microsphers and poly(vinyl chloride). Potassium persulfate showed no significant influence on the foaming behavior, foam expansion, whiteness, and yellowing, whereas in the case of using sodium bisulfite. In particular, sodium bisulfite demonstrated the best efficiency with 2 wt% treatment. The thermally expandable microspheres prepared herein can provide excellent foamability and whiteness, and are expected to be applicable in various fields such as general coating and wallpaper.
Human exposure to environmental carcinogens can be detected by a number of methods including immunoassay, $^{32}P$-postlabeling assay, and fluorescence technique. These assays have been applied to measure biological markers of carcinogen-adducts formed with macromolecules such as DNA, RNA and protein. In an attempt to investigate causal relation ships between carcinogen exposure and tumor formation, specific carcinogen-adducts have been quantitated from human tissues and body fluids of cancer patients, occupational workers heavily exposed to certain carcinogens, smokers and controls. Carcinogens studied for biological human monitoring include benzo(a)pyrene, aflatoxin B1, UV light, ethylene oxide, 8-methoxypsoralen, 4-aminobiphenyl, vinyl chloride, N-nitrosamine, cisplatin and other chemotherapeutic agents. Relevance of human monitoring for cancer research, progress in this field, methods to detect carcinogen-adducts are reviewed here. It is hoped that these approaches will be used for the risk assessment of carcinogen exposure, cancer etiology study and cancer prevention in humans.
