  • In this study the author examines the health information seeking behavior of older adults from the perspective of cognitive load. Using a qualitative method, based on ground theory, data were collected using in-depth interviews. Twenty-eight participants were participating older adults living in G community city, South Korea who experienced seeking health information. Interview transcripts were analyzed using a qualitative thematic coding framework. Three themes describing older adults' health information seeking behaviors were focused: intrinsic, extraneous, and germane cognitive load. The findings are geared towards the context of older adults' information seeking to support an understanding of successful information seeking behaviors in this population and to contribute to their health and well-being. The intent is to present information on current research in the field of Library and Information Science and to demonstrate how a cognitive load approach can be used to address the problems of older adults' health information seeking behaviors.

  • Various modern social problems are also related with science and technology. Thorough understanding about Technology-Society(STS) interactions is required to take informed action about how to deal effectively with these problems. In this case, there is a need for STS education. The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions of high -school students and science teachers about Technology-Society interactions and differences of their perceptions. It is my hope that this thesis will contribute to future "General Science" class in Korea. We obtained the data by a survey of 414 high school students who took "General Science" courses in Seoul and 54 of their science teachers. The survey was made using 10 multiple-choice items selected from the VOSTS (Views On Science-Technology-Society) item pool. The results of this study are as follow: 1. More than half of the students and teachers thought that science is exploring the unknown and discovering new things. Their perceptions about the science are somewhat stable, but about the technology various. 2. Most students and teachers thought that science and technology interact and complement each other. They also thought that the improvement in the quality of life needs investments in both science and technology 3. Most students and teachers thought social facts as community, government, and politics influenced scientists and scientific research. They also had a good understanding about the effects of science and technology on society. We can conclude from this that they had a Science-Technology-Society oriented viewpoint. 4. There are significant differences between the perceptions of boys and girls in following categories (p<.05): Influence of Community or Government Agencies on Scientists Influence of Politics on Scientists Role of Scieoce/Technology in Resolving Social Problems 5. There are significant differences between the perceptions of students and teachers in following categories (p<.05): Definition of Science Influence of Politics on Scientists

  • Social media enables customers to share their views, opinions and experiences as product reviews. These product reviews facilitate customers in buying quality products. Due to the significance of online reviews, fake reviews, commonly known as spam reviews are generated to mislead the potential customers in decision-making. To cater this issue, review spam detection has become an active research area. Existing studies carried out for review spam detection have exploited feature engineering approach; however limited number of features are considered. This paper proposes a Feature-Centric Model for Review Spam Detection (FMRSD) to detect spam reviews. The proposed model examines a wide range of feature sets including ratings, sentiments, content, and users. The experimentation reveals that the proposed technique outperforms the baseline and provides better results.

  • The cariostatic effect of fluoride had been established by many epidemiologic and experimental studies. But, there are still different views on the mechnism of cariostasis and remineralization, especially about the proper fluoride concentration. The purpose of this study is to ascertain the remineralization of caries lesion and influence of fluoride concentration which affect remineralization by a study based on dynamic mechanism. The subjects, sound permanent teeth without demineralization or crack, were immersed in lactic acid buffered demineralization solution for 4 days. Dental caries with surface zone and subsurface lesion were artificially produced. All specimens were immersed in lactic acid buffered remineralization solution which had fluoride concentrations of 1 ppm, 2 ppm, 3 ppm for 10days. Final conclusions were obtained by observing the specimens for every 10 days under polarized microscopy. 1. Remineralization of caries lesion as well as demineralization of enamel were produced by changing the degree of saturation of lactic acid buffer solution. 2. Remineralization of caries lesion was facillitated by fluoride ion in lactic acid buffer solution. but, remineralization of the entire caries lesion was not increased as fluoride ion concentration increased.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how $3^{rd}$ and $4^{th}$ grade elementary students view about 'Science story', which is recently inserted in the new version of science text books. For the study, four hundred $4^{th}$ graders at four schools were considered in the area of Cheonan city, Chungnam province. The degree of student's preference, preferable science topics from the 'Science story', the reason for their preference, and their attitudes toward general science were examined. The study was initiated after student's reading of the 'Science story' (Advanced science, Science in the life, Science in the history, and Future science directions). The student attitudes toward general science were examined using questionnaire survey prior to others. The results of the study are summarized: First, the students who have more interests and affirmative attitudes about science subjects with high scores are more favored about 'Science story'. Second, generally the students prefer reading topics in the order of 1) Science in the life, 2) Advanced science, 3) Science in the history, and 4) Future science directions. However the order was flexible depending on student's gender, preference, and attitudes. Third, the student's interests about 'Science story' was mostly raised from the new scientific topics in the book. And it was also raised partly from their personal interests and usefulness for science learning. Based on the results of our study, we included some suggestions for the improved 'Science story' and their utilizations.

  • The purpose of this study was to describe the relationship between family stress and adaptation in families with a disabled child through literature review using McCubbin's Double ABCX family crisis framework. The literature review focused on (1) family stress and factors affecting family stress, (2) the critical individual, familial and social resources which families acquire and employ over time in managing crisis situation. (3) the changes in definition and meaning families develop in an effort to make sense out of their predicament. (4) the coping strategies families employ. and (5) the range of outcomes of these family efforts The results showed that families reported financial difficulties and the burden of care-giving demands as major family stressors. Siblings of disabled children manifested depressive symptoms and social isolation. but was not consistent study results. The parents' views of the cause of the disabling condition fundamentally affected their behavior toward their disabled child. Especially. the fathers' views of the child's characteristics made the greatest contribution to positive changes in the mothers' perceptions. The term perceived social support refers to the cognitive appraisal by individuals that they are cared for and valued, that significant others are available to them if needed, and that they are satisfied with their interpersonal relationships. The perceived social support was more protective than social support source. network size and network density. Parental adaptation was found to be related to the child's communication competence rather than family coping strategies proposed by Lazarus and Folkman. One study results showed that there was no difference in depressive symptoms and physical health between mothers with a disabled child and those without all though mothers with a disabled child had negative attitudes and perceived themselves as having significantly less social support and lower family functioning. But a longitudinal study revealed decreases in the negative impact of the child and increases in sibling and overall family adaptation.

  • In this paper, we develop a fast view synthesis method that generates multiple intermediate views in real-time for the 3D display system when the camera geometry and depth map of reference views are given in advance. The proposed method achieves faster view synthesis than previous approaches in GPU by processing in parallel the entire computations required for the view synthesis. Specifically, we use $CUDA^{TM}$ (by NVIDIA) to control GPU device. For increasing the processing speed, we adapted all the processes for the view synthesis to single instruction multiple data (SIMD) structure that is a main feature of CUDA, maximized the use of the high-speed memories on GPU device, and optimized the implementation. As a result, we could synthesize 9 intermediate view images with the size of 720 by 480 pixels within 0.128 second.

  • In this study, we compared the dose using the DAP (Dose Area Product) and Air kerma values across the five most frequently used views in percutaneous coronary intervention, We also evaluated the images based on Contrast to Noise Ratio (CNR) and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). Compared to the control group, which did not use magnification, reducing the Field of View (FOV) for magnification resulted in a statistically significant increase in the average DAP and average Air kerma values across all five views. However, no statistically significant difference was observed between the control group and the magnification method that used the Live zoom function. When comparing the CNR of the magnification method using the Live zoom function and the magnification method by reducing the FOV, it was confirmed that the average CNR and average SNR values were significantly improved in all but one of the 15 points. Therefore, it was confirmed that the magnification method using the Live zoom function improved the image quality without increasing the dose.
