A video summary abstracts the gist from an entire video and also enables efficient access to the desired content. In this paper, we propose a novel method for summarizing news video based on multimodal analysis of the content. The proposed method exploits the closed caption data to locate semantically meaningful highlights in a news video and speech signals in an audio stream to align the closed caption data with the video in a time-line. Then, the detected highlights are described using MPEG-7 Summarization Description Scheme, which allows efficient browsing of the content through such functionalities as multi-level abstracts and navigation guidance. Multimodal search and retrieval are also within the proposed framework. By indexing synchronized closed caption data, the video clips are searchable by inputting a text query. Intensive experiments with prototypical systems are presented to demonstrate the validity and reliability of the proposed method in real applications.

Recently, access networking BroadBand the high performance of the video equipment to the Internet via voice, video, multimedia services, such as dealing with the media information dissemination is becoming increasingly attracting attention. More video devices and network environments in the future to keep pace with the high-quality video using the form dealing with an increasingly diversified and shall utilization is expected. Among them, video encoding technology, image compression encoding technology of information technology is one of the central role. Video coding technology that requires a vast amount of information contained in the video signal and the appropriate amount of information to eliminate redundancy as the efficiency of the digital code representing video signal is developed as a technology is going. Therefore, this study applied to video coding mode selection in the cost evaluation methods to examine and to maximize the coding efficiency and the proposed method compared to the conventional method was confirmed excellence.

With the growing popularity of digital video applications, those areas of the efficient transmit, storage management, and search technology for video data are emerging as an important core technology. To be an effective video indexing system, users need to be able to find the video segments that they want. Unfortunately, video data is difficult to manage because of its unstructured data type and large volume with linear forms. This paper proposes a shot verification using visual rhythm and video retrieval system. The shot verification is designed to detect a segment from video easily and quickly, known as shot boundaries, just by changing the visual rhythm without playing the image. Therefore, this can decrease the false detected shots and generate the unidentified shots and key frames. The retrieval system is constructed in terms of visual descriptor from the list of MPEG-7. The effectiveness of the proposed shot verification process and video retrieval system is demonstrated.

Video content is divided into long-form video content and short-form video content according to the length. Long form video content is created with a length of 15 minutes or longer, and all frames of the captured video are included without editing. Short-form video content can be edited to a shorter length from 1 minute to 15 minutes, and only some frames from the frames of the captured video. Due to the recent growth of the single-person broadcasting market, the demand for short-form video content to increase viewers is increasing. Therefore, there is a need for research on content editing technology for editing and generating short-form video content. This study studies the technology to create short-form videos of main scenes by capturing images, voices, and motions. Short-form videos of key scenes use a pre-trained highlight extraction model through machine learning. An automatic video editing system and method for automatically generating a highlight video is a core technology of short-form video content. Machine learning-based automatic video editing method and system research will contribute to competitive content activities by reducing the effort and cost and time invested by single creators for video editing

Users quite often experience volatile channel conditions which negatively influence multimedia transmission. HTTP adaptive streaming has emerged as a new promising technology where the video quality can be adjusted to variable network conditions. Nevertheless, the new technology does not remain without drawbacks. As it has been observed, multiple video players sharing the same network link have often problems with achieving good efficiency and stability of play-out due to a mutual interference and competition among video players. Our investigation indicates that there may be another cause for under-performance of the streamed video. In an emulated environment, we implemented three algorithms of adaptive video play-out based on bandwidth or buffer assessment. As we show, traffic generated by players employing the same or similar play-out strategies is positively correlated and synchronised (clustered), whereas traffic originated from different play-out strategies shows negative or no correlations. However, when some of the parameters of the play-out strategies are randomised, the correlation and synchronisation diminish what has a positive impact on the smoothness of the traffic and on the video quality perceived by end users. Our research shows that non-correlated traffic flows generated by play-out strategies improve efficiency and stability of streamed adaptive video.
The multi-view video is a collection of multiple videos capturing the same scene at different viewpoints. The multi-view video can be used in various applications, including free viewpoint TV and three-dimensional TV. Since the data size of the multi-view video linearly increases as the number of cameras, it is necessary to compress multi-view video data for efficient storage and transmission. The multi-view video can be coded using the concept of the layered depth image (LDI). In this paper, we describe a procedure to generate LDI from the natural multi-view video and present a method to encode multi-view video using the concept of LDI.

Multi-view video consists of a set of multiple video sequences from multiple viewpoints or view directions in the same scene. It contains extremely a large amount of data and some extra information to be stored or transmitted to the user. This paper presents inter-view correlations among video objects and the background to reduce the prediction complexity while achieving a high coding efficiency in multi-view video coding. Our proposed algorism is based on object-based segmentation scheme that utilizes video object information obtained from the coded base view. This set of data help us to predict disparity vectors and motion vectors in enhancement views by employing object registration, which leads to high compression and low-complexity coding scheme for enhancement views. An experimental results show that the superiority can provide an improvement of PSNR gain 2.5.3 dB compared to the simulcast.
This study sought to design and develop an interactive video player (IVP) capable of promoting student engagement through the use of online video content. We designed features built upon interactive, constructive, active, passive (ICAP), and crowd learning frameworks. In the development stage of this study, we integrated numerous interactive features into the IVP intended to help learners shift from passive to interactive learning activities. We then explored the effectiveness and usability of the developed IVP by conducting an experiment in which we evaluated students' exam scores after using either our IVP or a conventional video player. There were 158 college students who participated in the study; 76 students in the treatment group used the IVP and 82 students in the control group used a conventional video player. Results indicate that the participants in the experiment group demonstrated better achievement than the participants in the control group. We further discuss the implications of this study based on an additional survey that was administered to disclose how usable the participants perceived the IVP to be.

Video GIS is a spatial information system where video is used and integrated with map or other media such as 3D graphics, image, video, and satellite imagery. The information expressed by video, in nature, can provide realistic information. The connection of map and image of actual geographic object brings realistic visualization, which overcomes the limitation of conventional map-based GIS. In the suggested video GIS, location information is contained in video data and thereby enables two-sided searching, browsing, and analyses. In this paper, we suggest video GIS that integrates and manages video and map, and that constructs spatial information. We also develop a prototype system of video GIS in the field of roadside facility management, and show the results.

An effective video indexing is required to manipulate large video databases. Most algorithms for video indexing have been commonly used histograms, edges, or motion features. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm using the luminance projection for video retrieval. To effectively index the video sequences and to reduce the computational complexity, we use the key frames extracted by the cumulative measure, and compare the set of key frames using the modified Hausdorff distance. Experimental results show that the proposed video indexing and video retrieval algorithm yields the higher accuracy and performance than the conventional algorithm.
