It is a weak point of the motion estimation technique for video compression that the predicted video encoding algorithm requires higher-order computational complexity. To reduce the computational complexity of encoding algorithms, researchers introduced techniques such as 3D-WT that don't require motion prediction. One of the weakest points of previous 3D-WT studies is that they require too much memory for encoding and too long delay for decoding. In this paper, we propose a technique called `FS (Fast playable and Scalable) 3D-WT' This technique uses a modified Haar wavelet transform algorithm and employs improved encoding algorithm for lower memory and shorter delay requirement. We have executed some tests to compare performance of FS 3D-WT and 3D-V. FS 3D-WT has exhibited the same high compression rate and the same short processing delay as 3D-V has.

Recently, access networking BroadBand the high performance of the video equipment to the Internet via voice, video, multimedia services, such as dealing with the media information dissemination is becoming increasingly attracting attention. More video devices and network environments in the future to keep pace with the high-quality video using the form dealing with an increasingly diversified and shall utilization is expected. Among them, video encoding technology, image compression encoding technology of information technology is one of the central role. Video coding technology that requires a vast amount of information contained in the video signal and the appropriate amount of information to eliminate redundancy as the efficiency of the digital code representing video signal is developed as a technology is going. Therefore, this study applied to video coding mode selection in the cost evaluation methods to examine and to maximize the coding efficiency and the proposed method compared to the conventional method was confirmed excellence.
Most watermarking schemes for video contents protection have been studied to increase watermark's robustness and invisibility against such compressions and many kinds of signal processing after embedding copyright information to the original contents. This paper proposes an active watermarking that infect watermark to contents in the video decoding process using embedded infectious watermark and control signals from a video encoder side. To achieve this algorithm, we design a kernel based watermarking in video encoder side that is possible to recover the original contents and watermark in watermark detection procedure perfectly. And then, by reversible de-watermarking in video decoder side, we design the active watermark infection method using detected watermark and control signal. This means that our system can provide secure re-distributions of video contents without any quality degration and watermark bit error against transcoding or re-encoding processing. By experimental results, we confirmed that the embedded watermark was infected by video contents and codec perfectly without any declines of compression ratio and video quality.

360 video is attracting attention as immersive media, and is also considered in VVC (Versatile Video Coding), which is being developed in JVET (Joint Video Expert Team) as a new video coding standard of post-HEVC. A 2D image projected from 360 video for its compression may has discontinuities between the projected faces and inactive regions, and they may cause the visual artifacts in the reconstructed video as well as decrease of coding efficiency. In this paper, we propose a method of efficient geometric padding to reduce these discontinuities and inactive regions in the projection format of SSP (Segmented Sphere Projection). Experimental results show that the proposed method improves subjective quality compared to the existing padding of SSP that uses copy padding with minor loss of coding gain.

Header compression scheme is suggested as a solution to reduce the inefficient overhead of general packet stream data. Especially, it is shown that there are more overhead rate for real-time media stream links such as voice because of its short payload size, and it is possible to get higher bandwidth efficiency using the header compression scheme. There are two kinds of error recovery in header compression such as Periodic Header Refresh(PHR) and Header Request(HR) schemes. In this paper, we analyze the performance of these two compression recovery schemes, and some results such as the overhead rate, bandwidth gain and bandwidth efficiency(BE) are presented.

This paper describes a compression scheme for volumetric video data(3D space X 1D time) there each frame of the volume is decompressed and rendered in real-time. Since even one frame size of volume is very large, runtime decompression can be a bottleneck for real-time playback of time-varying volume data. To increase the run-time decompression speed and compression ratio, we decompose the volume into small blocks and only update significantly changing blocks. The results show that our compression scheme compromises decompression speed and image quality well enough for interactive time-varying visualization.

The point cloud provides viewers with intuitive geometric understanding but requires a huge amount of data. Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) has developed video-based point-cloud compression in the range of 300-700. As the compression rate increases, the complexity increases to the extent that it takes 101.36 s to compress one frame in an experimental environment using a personal computer. To realize real-time point-cloud compression processing, the direct patch projection (DPP) method proposed herein simplifies the complex patch segmentation process by classifying and projecting points according to their geometric positions. The DPP method decreases the complexity of the patch segmentation from 25.75 s to 0.10 s per frame, and the entire process becomes 8.76 times faster than the conventional one. Consequently, this proposed DPP method yields similar peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) outcomes to those of the conventional method at reduced times (4.7-5.5 times) at the cost of bitrate overhead. The objective and subjective results show that the proposed DPP method can be considered when low-complexity requirements are required in lightweight device environments.

It is an important issue to compress huge holographic data in a digital format. In particular, research on the compression of phase-only holograms for commercialization is noteworthy. Conventional video coding standards optimized for natural images are not suitable for compressing phase signals, and neural network-based compression model that can be optimized for phase signals can achieve high performance, but has a memory issue in learning high-resolution holographic data. In this paper, we show that by applying a block-based learned image compression model that can solve memory problems to phase-only holograms, the proposed method can demonstrate significant performance improvement over standard codecs even under the same conditions as block-based. Block-based learned compression model can provide compatibility with conventional standard codecs, solve memory problems, and can perform significantly better against phase-only hologram compression.
These days, many image processing techniques have been studied for effective image compression. Among those, 2D image filtering is widely used for 2D image processing. The 2D image filtering can be implemented by performing ID linear filtering separately in the direction of horizontal and vertical. Efficiency of image compression depends on what filtering method is used. Generally, circular convolution is widely used in the 2D image filtering for image processing. However it doesn't consider correlations at the region of image boundary, therefore filtering can not be performed effectively. To solve this problem. I proposed new convolution technique using Symmetric-Mirroring convolution, satisfying the 'alias-free' and 'error-free' requirement in the reconstructed image. This method could provide more effective performance than former compression methods. Because it used very high correlative data when performed at the boundary region. In this paper, pre-processing filtering in H.264 codec was adopted to analyze efficiency of proposed filtering technique, and the simulator developed by Matlab language was used to examine the performance of the proposed method.

The complexity of image compression algorithms has increased in order to improve image compression efficiency. One way to resolve high computational complexity is parallel processing. However, entropy coding, which is lossless compression, does not fit into the parallel processing form because of the correlation between consecutive symbols. This paper proposes a new application-specific instruction set processor (ASIP) platform by adding new context-adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) instructions to the existing platform to quickly process a variety of entropy coding. The newly added instructions work without conflicts with all other existing instructions of the platform, providing the flexibility to handle many coding standards with fast processing speeds. CABAC software is implemented for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) and the performance of the proposed ASIP platform was verified with a field programmable gate array simulation.
