  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce the development of a new Lesson Video-Case Lab (LVCL) program in Suzhou, China. This program involves the creation of several series of hypermedia video-cases on teaching and learning designed to facilitate mathematics teachers' professional development. Each of these video-cases consists of lesson clips, case questions, interviews with experts, comments by peers, responses by students and other related resources. The study has implications pertaining to the use of technology in teacher development, the production of hypermedia video-cases, as well as research on case-based pedagogy and pedagogy in general.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for generating graphic objects having realistic shadows inserted into video sequence for the enhanced augmented reality. Our purpose is to extend the work of [1], which is applicable to the case of a static camera, to video sequence. However, in case of video, there are a few challenging problems, including the camera calibration problem over video sequence, false shadows occurring when the video camera moves and so on. We solve these problems using the convenient calibration technique of [2] and the information from video sequence . We present the experimental results on real video sequences.

  • This paper proposes new motion vector re-estimation techniques for transcoding of heterogenous video coders. The first case is for transcoder of coding format. The coding algorithm with B-picture like MPEG standards is transcoded into the different algorithm without B-picture like H.261 standards. The second case is for transcoder of spatial resolution reduction. It generates a downscaled video bitstream at the video source. The third case is the integrated method that previous two cases are needed simultaneously. These three transcoding algorithms are compared and verified though reconstructed image quality in PSNR, motion vector errors between optimal motion vectors of cascaded trans- coder and motion vectors estimated by proposed methods and the amount of operation.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to verify the necessity of endotracheal intubation through video laryngoscope and to provide basic data to inform the provision of video laryngoscope education. Methods: Eighty paramedic students participated in this study. A survey was conducted from November 5, 2018 to December 7, 2018. Data were analyzed with independent t-tests, and the chi-squared test. Results: The video laryngoscope is a highly usable instrument that can easily be applied during training. The instrument provides better visual evaluation of the normal airway (p=.004), the airway in case of cervical collar and head fixation (p=.000), and the airway in case of tongue edema (p=.000). The time of endotracheal intubation in the normal airway was significantly less with the video laryngoscope compared with the direct laryngoscope. The success rate of tracheal intubation was significantly higher in the video laryngoscope group than in the direct laryngoscope. Conclusion: This study suggests the necessity of education on endotracheal intubation through video laryngoscope in the professional airway maintenance training course of emergency department students. The video laryngoscope is easier to apply than the direct laryngoscope in cases of intubation in various clinical situations.

  • An azygos vein aneurysm is a very rare cause of a posterior mediastinal mass. Once the diagnosis has been confirmed, no treatment is usually required. However, the aneurysm can thrombose, and this may lead pulmonary thromboembolism, or the aneurysm may rupture. In these instances, the excision of the mass is recommended. Video-assisted thoracic surgery techniques have considerably improved. If it is necessary to remove the aneurysm, video-assisted thoracic surgery may be a good option for surgical treatment. We report a case of an aneurysm of the azygos arch that was successfully resected by video-assisted thoracic surgery.

  • This paper presents effective quality-of-service renegotiating schemes for streaming video. The conventional network supporting quality-of-service generally allows a negotiation at call setup. However, it is not efficient for the video application since the compressed video traffic is statistically non-stationary. Thus, we consider the network supporting quality-of-service renegotiations during the data transmission, and study effective quality-of-service renegotiating schemes for streaming video. Simple token bucket model, whose parameters are token filling rate and token bucket size, is adopted for the video traffic model. The renegotiating time instants and the parameters are determined by analyzing the statistical information of compressed video traffic. In this paper, two renegotiating approaches, i.e. fixed renegotiating interval case and variable renegotiating interval case, are examined. Finally, the experimental results are provided to show the performance of the proposed schemes.

  • To analyze the crime scene, the role of digital evidence such as CCTV and black box is very important. Such digital evidence is often damaged due to device defects or intentional deletion. In this case, the deleted video can be restored by well-known techniques like the frame-based recovery method. Especially, the data such as the video can be generally fragmented and saved in the case of the memory used almost fully. If the fragmented video were recovered in units of images, the sequence of the recovered images may not be continuous. In this paper, we proposed a new video restoration method to match the sequence of recovered images. First, the images are recovered through a frame-based recovery technique. Then, after analyzing the time information marked on the images, the time information was extracted and recognized via optical character recognition (OCR). Finally, the recovered images are rearranged based on the time information obtained by OCR. For performance evaluation, we evaluate the recovery rate of our proposed video restoration method. As a result, it was shown that the recovery rate for the fragmented video was recovered from a minimum of about 47% to a maximum of 98%.

  • To date, research on data mining has focused primarily on individual techniques to su, pp.rt knowledge discovery. However, the integration of elementary learning techniques offers a promising strategy for challenging a, pp.ications such as forecasting nonlinear processes. This paper explores the utility of an integrated a, pp.oach which utilizes a second-order learning process. The a, pp.oach is compared against individual techniques relating to a neural network, case based reasoning, and induction. In the interest of concreteness, the concepts are presented through a case study involving the prediction of network traffic for video-on-demand.
