Modeling and Vibration Control of High-rise Buildings Using $H_2$ and TEX>$H_\infty$ Control Theories

  • This paper analyzes the dynamical modeling of high-rise building and the design of control systems for suppressing undesired vibrational motion at the top of the building originated by natural disturbances such as earthquakes, wind, etc. The control system is designed according to H$_{2}$ and H$_{\infty}$ robust control theories. The performance of the building with H$_{\infty}$ controller is analyzed in the time and frequency domains and the vibration isolation and robustness properties of H$_{\infty}$ and H$_{2}$ control systems are examined and compared. The design procedure, structure and properties of H$_{\infty}$ controllers are analyzed.zed.

  • A new measurement method to measure vibrational motions of objects is presented. The original principle is similar to the previous work that utilized a 3-facet mirror to obtain three dimensional positions and orientations of rigid bodies. While the previous work was presented for only stationary objects, in this paper, we newly investigate the feasibility of this method for dynamic applications. The 3-facet mirror that looks like a triangular pyramid having an equilateral cross-sectional shape. The mirror has three lateral reflective surfaces inclined 45 degrees to its bottom surface, and its mounted on the object whose motion is to be measured, As optical components, a He-Ne laser source and three position-sensitive detectors(PSD) are used. 멀티레이트 수치적분법을 이용한 유연다물체 동역학해석 (Flexible Multibody Dynamic Analysis Using Multirate Integration Method)

  • A Nordsick form opf the multirate integration scheme has been proposed for flexible multibody dynamic systems. It is assumed that vibrational modal coordinates in the equations of motion are treated as fast variables, whereas the relative joint coordinates are treated as slow variables. In the multirate integration, the fast variables are integrated with small step-size, and the slow variables are integrated with larger step-size. The proposed multirate integration method is based on the Adams-Bashforth-Moulton predictor-corrector method and implemented in the Nordsieck vector form. The Nordsieck form of multrate integration method provides effective step-size control and at the same time, inherits the efficiency from the Adams integration method. Simulations of a flexible gun and turret system of the military tank have been carried out to show the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.

  • The vibrational system of this study consists of a cantilever pipe conveying fluid, the moving mass upon it and an attached tip mass. The equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange equation. The influences of the velocity of moving mass and the uniformly distributed tangential follower force have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a cantilever pipe by numerical method. While the moving mass moves upon the cantilever pipe, the velocity of fluid flow increase, the tip displacement of cantilever pipe conveying fluid is decreased. (omitted)

Optimal damping ratio of TLCDs

  • The study of the optimal damping ratio of a tuned liquid-column damper (or TLCD) attached to a single-degree-of-freedom system is presented. The tuned liquid-column damper is composed of two vertical columns connected by a horizontal section in the bottom and partially filled with water. The ratio of the length of the horizontal section to the effective wetted length of a TLCD considered as another important parameter is also presented for investigation. A simple pendulum-like model test is conducted to simulate a long-period motion in order to prove the effectiveness of TLCD for vibrational control. Comparisons of the experimental and analytic results of the TLCD, TLD (tuned-liquid damper), and TMD (tuned-mass damper) are included for discussion.

  • In this paper, classical vibration theories are summarized to design engine mount system of passenger vehicles. The vibrational characteristics of powertrain system and its equation of motion are introduced. Based upon the equation, the concept of the center of gravity, the principle inertia axis, the elastic center, and the elastic axis are defined and some new concepts are suggested. The theory of mode decoupling and the relationship between TRA (Torque Roll Axis) and roll mode are also reexamined to support the design concept of engine mount systems.

  • In this paper, a compliance control strategy for robot manipulators that employs a self-adjusting stiffiness function is proposed. Based on the contact force, each entry of the diagonal stiffness matrix corresponding to a task coordinate in the operational space is adaptively adjusted during contact along the corresponding axis. The proposed method can be used for both the unconstrained and constrained motions without any switching mechanism which often causes undesirable instability and/or vibrational motion of the end-effector. The experimental results involving a two-link direct drive manipulator interacting with an unknown environment demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper deals with the dynamic stability and vibration of a discontinuous cantilevered Pipe conveying fluid. The present model consists of two segments with different cross-sections. Governing equations of motion are derived by extended Hamilton's principle, and the numerical scheme using finite element method is applied to obtain the discretized equations. The critical flow velocities and stability maps of the pipe are obtained by changing ratios of second area moment of inertia and mass ratios. Finally, the vibrational modes associated with flutter are shown graphically.

  • The paper presents the relationship between the eigenvalue branches and the corresponding flutter modes of cantilevered pipes conveying fluid. The pipes are located on elastic foundations which can be regarded as a soil model. In this paper, elastic foundations are assumed as linear distributed translational springs. Governing equations of motion are derived by extended Hamilton's principle, and the numerical scheme using finite element method is applied to obtain the discretized equations. The critical How velocity and stability maps of the pipe are investigated according to the variation of elastic foundation parameters, mass ratios of the pipe and internal damping Parameter. Also, the vibrational modes associated with flutter are shown.

  • In this paper the vibrational behavior of a multi-packet blade system having a cracked blade is investigated. Each blade is assumed as a slender cantilever beam. The coupling stiffness effect that originates from either disc flexibility or shroud is considered in the modeling. Hybrid deformation variables are employed to derive the equations of motion. The flexibility due to crack, which is assumed to be open during the vibration, is calculated basing on a fracture mechanics theory. In the paper, the results of the change in modal parameters due to crack appearance are presented. The influence of the crack parameters, especially of the changing location of the crack is examined.
