This paper deals with the experimental study of the vibration suppression of the smart structures. First, a new high-speed active control system is presented using the DSP320C6713 microprocessor. A peripheral system developed is composed of a data acquisition system, A/D and D/A converters, piezoelectric (PZT) actuator/sensors, and drivers using PA 95 for fast data processing. Next, the processing time of the peripheral device is tested and the corresponding test results are provided. Since fast data processing is very important in the active vibration control of the structures, achieving the fast loop times of the control system is focused. The control algorithm using PPF in addition to FIR filter is implemented. Finally, numerous experiments were carried out on the aluminum plate to validate the superior performance of the vibration control system at different control loop times.

Many hudraulic components have nonlinearities to some extent. These nonlinearities often cause the time delay, thus degrading the performance of the hydraulic control systems and making it difficult to modelthem. In this paper, a new vibration isolation control algorithm that eliminates the necessity of a sophiscated modeling of hydraulic system was proposed. The algotithm is a hybrid type control shecheme consisting of a linear controller and a hetero-synaptic neural network controller. Using this control scheme, simulations and experiments were performed for 1 DOF(Degree of freedom) and 2 DOF vibration isolation. The hybrid type control algorithm can isolate the base vibration signifcantly rather than linear control algorithm. And from the weights in hetero-synaptic neural network, we can get the 2nd equivalent differentialmodel of the hydraulic control system with on-line control operation. This equivalent model provides us with much information, such as stability and the characteristics of the control system.

This paper is concerned with an experimental research to control of random vibration caused by external loads specially in cable-stayed bridges which tend to be structurally flexible. For the vibration control, we produced a model structure modelled on Seohae Grand Bridge, and we designed a shear type MR damper. On the center of its middle span, we placed a shear type MR damper which was to control its vibration and also acquire its structural responses such as displacement and acceleration at the same site. The experiments concerning controlling vibration were performed according to a variety of theories including un-control, passive on/off control, and clipped-optimal control. Its control performance was evaluated in terms of the absolute maximum displacements, RMS displacements, the absolute maximum accelerations, RMS accelerations, and the total power required to control the bridge which differ from each different experiment method. Among all the methods applied in this paper, clipped-optimal control method turned out to be the most effective to reduces of displacements, accelerations, and external power. Finally, It is proven that the clipped-optimal control method was effective and useful in the vibration control employing a semi-active devices such MR damper.

The engine mount of vehicle systems is role of support engine mass and isolate noise and vibration from engine disturbance forces. One of attractive candidates to achieve this goai is to utilize a semi-active ER engine mount. By applying this, we can effectively control damping force and hence the noise and vibration by just controlling the intensity of electric field. However, control performance of the engine mount may be very sensitive to temperature variation during engine operation. In this work, we Investigate dynamic performances of ER engine mount with respect to the temperature variation. In order to undertake this, a flow-mode type of ER engine mount is designed and manufactured. Displacement transmissibility is experimentally and numerically evaluated as a function of the electric field. The ER engine mount is then incorporated with full-vehicle model in order to investigate vibration control performance. After formulating the governing equation of motion, a semi-active controller is designed. The controller is implemented through a hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS), and control responses such as acceleration level at various engine speeds are evaluated in the frequency and time domains.

Recently, the high-precision vibration attenuation technology becomes the essence fo the seccessful development of high-integrated and ultra-precision industries, and is expected to continue playing a key role in the enhancement of manufacturing technology. Vibration isolation system using an air-spring is widely employed owing to its excellent isolation characteristics in a wide frequency range. It has, however, some drawbacks such as low-stiffness and low-damping features and can be easily excited by exogenous disturbances, and then vibration of table is remained for a long time. Consequently, the need for active vibration control for an air-spring vibration isolation system becomes inevitable. Furthermore, for an air-spring isolation table to be successfully employed in a variety of manufacturing sites, it should have a guaranteed robust performance not only to exogenous disturbances but also to uncertainties due to various equipments which might be put on the table. In this study, an active vibration suppression control system using H.inf. theory is designed and experiments are performed to verify its robust performance. An air-spring vibration isolation table with voice-coil-motors as its actuators is designed and built. The table is modeled as 3 degree-of-freedom system. An active control system is designed based on $H_\infty$control theory using frequency-shaped weighting functions. Analysis on its performance and frequency responce properties are done through numerical simulations. Robust characteristics of$H_\infty$ control on disturbances and model uncertainties are experimentally verified through (i) the transient response to the impact excitation of the table, (ii) the steady-state response to the harmonic excitation, and (iii) the response to the mass change of the table itself. An LQG controller is also designed and its performance is compared with the $H_\infty$ controller.

In order to control tunnel blast vibration for adjacent facilities using electronic detonator, Understanding about the characteristics of near-field ground vibration is necessary. The purpose of this paper is to analyze effects of Cut-area and Extension-area vibration in relation to decision of tunnel blast vibration. These data were obtained at the top monitoring positions while ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ tunnel site of "Wonju~Gangneung double railroad section ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ construction" was passing under the existing road. Thus, tunnel blasting was conducted by tunnel electronic blasting system with 0.01% high delay-time accuracy. It can be possible that not only keeping maximum charge per delay-time but also preventing amplification of vibration which is occurred by delay-time scatter using common detonators. Additionally, V-Cut was changed into Burn-Cut. The results was presented that vibration level of extension-holes were higher than Cut-holes. Therefore, near-field ground vibration can be effectively minimized using electronic detonators in the Cut area. And also more effective way to reduce tunnel blast vibration is full-face blast using electronic detonators.

This paper addresses the residual vibration problem of robots due to joint flexibility excited by fast accelerations, which has not been easily solved with conventional closed loop controllers. In this paper, an open loop input shaping technique, proposed by singer, has been applied to a 3 DOF robot with joint flexibility. In conjunction to the technique, a closed loop controller based on time-delay controller was also used. The results of simulations and experiments showed that the technique is quite effective for suppressing the residual vibration.

The experiments were carried out during a total of nine sessions, that is, 3 sessions over 3 days. The CK levels decreased depending on the experiment session ($P{\leq}0.05$), but there was no significant difference ($P{\leq}0.05$) between the experimental group and the control group. Pressure threshold levels significantly decreased depending on the experiment session and the treatments had higher effects in the experimental group. VAS figures significantly decreased depending on the experiment session ($P{\leq}0.005$) and the treatments had higher effects in the experimental group. The results of this study verified the contention that applying vibration treatment immediately after inducing DOMS is more effective in terms of pressure pain threshold (PPT) and VAS, but not CK levels, than applying the treatment 24 hours after inducing DOMS. In addition, the experimental group showed a statistically significant difference compared to the control group. Therefore, it was concluded that applying vibration treatment immediately after inducing DOMS can be used as a DOMS treatment method.

Increasing flexibility and lightness of recently built high-rise buildings make the structures susceptible to loads such as earthquakes and winds. Therefore, higher performance vibration control systems to reduce the vibration levels are demanded more than any time in the past. One of the typical active vibration control systems is the active mass driver (AMD). In this paper, an active vibration control system consisting of small shaking table, building model, sensors, signal processing board and AMD is constructed. The dynamic characteristics of these individual systems are investigated through the experimental study. The performance of the active vibration control system is verified through the El Centro earthquake(1940,NS) on the building model.
