  • When the lateral dimensions of a duct is larger than or comparable to the wavelengths of Interest, higher order modes propagate in the duct. These modes will be radiated and produce noise. A number of sensors and actuators for control of radiating noise from the duct have to be incorporated with the number of modes which one wants to control. These considerations motivated the present study that considers a control system which has less microphones and control sources than required. In this work, by theoretical analysis, the control performance of such a kind of system is investigated in terms of sound-field variables and control system variables. The possible maximum and minimum value. mean and variance of residual acoustic potential energy are derived for the set of primary sound fields.

  • With polymer properties and ceramic volume fraction as design variables, the optimal structure of 1-3 piezocomposites has been determined to maximize the thickness mode electromechanical coupling factor. When the piezocomposite vibrates in a thickness mode, inter-pillar resonant modes are likely to occur between lattice-structured piezoceramic pillars and polymer matrix, which significantly deteriorates the performance of the piezocomposite. In this work, a new method to design the structure of the 1-3 type piezocomposite is proposed to maximize the thickness mode electromechanical coupling factor while preventing the occurrence of the inter-pillar modes. Genetic algorithm was used for the optimal design, and the finite element analysis method was used for the analysis of the inter-pillar mode.

  • If the vibration is occurred in a large-sized bus roof, it makes people annoying and complaining the quality of a large-sized bus. So in design stage, it must be considered. To assess vibration at the roof which is equipped with air conditioner in design stage, finite element model is constructed. Computer simulation analysis and experimental method are performed. The dynamic characteristics of the large-sized bus are found by using eigenvalue method. It is related with dynamic behavior. The running conditions of a large-sized bus are velocity and road condition which followed experimental conditions. And the frequency response of a large-sized bus is well correlated with analysis result. Modal participation method is used for finding major modes at each peak. Using this method, we found that front and rear suspension system, engine mounting system and roof structure are the major reasons of the roof vibration. To reduce vibration level of roof in a large-sized bus, spring stiffness of front and rear suspension system, spring stiffness of engine mounting system and roof structure are properly combined. From this study, the vibration characteristics of the roof structure of a large-sized bus can be to a satisfactory level.

  • In the development of a vibration-based condition monitoring system in gearbox, one of the most important research topics is a quantitative analysis and test of the effect of gear damage on vibration of gearbox. This paper presents the evaluation result of vibration condition indicator according to the gear tooth damage through the vibration test of gearbox. The dynamic load test was performed with high speed railway (KTX)'s gearbox. The vibration of gearbox was measured according to a rotational speed change with the common gear fault modes, such as pitting and tooth breakage. The characteristics and the possibility of applying of vibration condition indicator on condition monitoring system were analyzed. As a result, the value of most condition indicator is gradually increased with the severity of gear faults. The NA6 indicator shows a low variation with the rotational speed change and high sensitivity in accordance with the gear fault.

  • Many tanks are installed in ship and marine structures. They are often in contact with inner or outer fluid, like ballast, fuel and cargo tanks. Fatigue damages are sometimes observed in these tanks which seem to be caused by resonance with exciting force of engine and propeller. Vibration characteristics of these thin walled tanks in contact with fluid near engine and propeller are strongly affected by added mass of containing fluid. Therefore it is essentially important to estimate the added mass effect to predict vibration of the tanks. Many authors have studied vibration of cylindrical and rectangular tanks containing fluid. Few research on dynamic interaction among tank walls through fluid are reported in the vibration of rectangular tanks recently. In case of rectangular tanks, structural coupling between adjacent panels and effect of vibration modes of multiple panels on added mass have to be considered. In the previous report, A numerical tool of vibration analysis of a 3-dimensional tank is developed by using finite element method for plates and boundary element method for fluid region. In this paper, the coupling effect between panels of a tank on added mass of containing fluid, the effect of structural constraint between panels on each vibration mode for fluid region and mode characteristics in accordance with changing breadth of the plates are investigated numerically and discussed.

  • A gas driven heat pump (GHP) core design comprises internal combustion engine, compressors incorporated to a cooling/heating system, rubber mountings and belt transmissions. Main excitation farces are generated by an engine, compressors themselves and belt fluctuation. It leads to high vibration level of the mount that can cause damage of GHP elements. Therefore an appropriate design of the mounting system is crucial in terms of reliability and vibration reduction. In this paper oscillation of the engine mount is explored both experimentally and analytically. Experimental analysis of natural frequencies and operational frequency response of the GHP engine mounting system enables to create simplified model for numerical and analytical investigations. It is worked out criteria f3r vibration abatement of the isolated structure. Influence of bracket stiffness between engine and compressors, suspension locations and damper performance is investigated. Ways to reduce excitation forces and improve dynamic performance of the engine-compressor mounting system are considered from these analyses. Implementation of the proposed approach permits to choose appropriate rubber mountings and their location as well as joining elements design A phase matching technique can be employed to control forces from main exciters. It enables to changing vibration response of the structure by control of natural modes contribution. Proposed changes lead to significant vibration reduction and can be easily utilized in engineering practice.

  • The seismic response analysis of an existing bridge needs a mathematical model that can be calibrated with measured dynamic characteristics. These characteristics are the periods and the associated mode shapes of vibration and the modal damping coefficients. This paper deals with the measurements and the interpretation of the results of ambient vibration tests done on a newly erected cable stayed bridge across the Oued Dib River at Mila city in Algeria. The signal analysis of ambient vibration records will permit to determine the dynamic characteristics of the bridge. On the other hand, a 3-D model of the bridge is developed in order to assess the frequencies and the associated modes of vibration. This information will be necessary in the planning of the test on the site (locations of the sensors, frequencies to be measured and the associated mode shapes of vibration). The frequencies predicted by the finite element model are compared with those measured during full-scale ambient vibration measurements of the bridge. In the same way, the modal damping coefficients obtained by the random decrement method are compared to those of similar bridges.

  • In this study, the authors examine the propulsion shafting of the training ship SAEDONGBAEK and perform modeling to analyze the torsional free vibration of the shafting. In this paper, the computational algorithm for analyzing the torsional free vibration of the shafting with a reduction gear is formulated by the sylvester-transfer stiffness coefficient method (S-TSCM) that is a recently developed and a powerful method in free vibration analysis. According to the state of the controllable pitch propeller of the shafting and the temperature of the elastic coupling, the torsional free vibration of the shafting is performed by the S-TSCM. The authors examine the changes of the natural frequencies and natural modes which are the results of the torsional free vibration analysis of the shafting.

  • A finite element approach is presented to examine ground vibration characteristics under various moving loads in a homogeneous half-space. Four loading modes including single load, double load, four-load, and twenty-load were simulated in a finite element analysis to observe their influence on ground vibrations. Four load moving speeds of 60, 80, 100, and 120 m/s were adopted to investigate the influence of train speed to the ground vibrations. The results demonstrated that the loading mode in a finite element analysis is reliable for train-induced vibration simulations. Additionally, a three-dimensional finite element model (3D FEM) was developed to investigate the dynamic responses of a track-ballast-embankment-ground system subjected to moving loads induced by high-speed trains. Results showed that vibration attenuations and breaks exist in the simulated wave fronts transiting through different medium materials. These tendencies are a result of the difference in the Rayleigh wave speeds of the medium materials relative to the speed of the moving train. The vibration waves induced by train loading were greatly influenced by the weakening effect of sloping surfaces on the ballast and embankment. Moreover, these tendencies were significant when the vibration waves are at medium and high frequency levels. The vibration waves reflected by the sloping surface were trapped and dissipated within the track-ballast-embankment-ground system. Thus, the vibration amplitude outside the embankment was significantly reduced.

  • This paper investigates the filtered velocity feedback(FVF) controller for the reduction of the acoustic power radiated from a clamped beam. The instability problem due to the non-collocated sensor/actuator configuration when using PZT actuator should be sorted out. The roll-off property of the FVF controller at high frequency helps to alleviate the instability. The dynamics of clamped beams under forces and moments pair and the FVF controller are first formulated. The formulation of the sound radiated power is followed. The open loop transfer function(OLTF) synthesized with 100 modes is used to determine the stability of the control system. The control performance is finally estimated. The levels of the vibration and the sound radiated power are reduced in the wide bandbelow the tuning mode of the FVF controller.
