To simulate the self excited torsional vibrations of rotating drill strings (DSs) in vertical bore-holes, the nonlinear wave models of homogeneous and sectional torsional pendulums are formulated. The stated problem is shown to be of singularly perturbed type because the coefficient appearing before the second derivative of the constitutive nonlinear differential equation is small. The diapasons ${\omega}_b\leq{\omega}\leq{\omega}_l$ of angular velocity ${\omega}$ of the DS rotation are found, where the torsional auto-oscillations (of limit cycles) of the DS bit are generated. The variation of the limit cycle states, i.e. birth (${\omega}={\omega}_b$), evolution (${\omega}_b<{\omega}<{\omega}_l$) and loss (${\omega}={\omega}_l$), with the increase in angular velocity ${\omega}$ is analyzed. It is observed that firstly, at birth state of bifurcation of the limit cycle, the auto-oscillation generated proceeds in the regime of fast and slow motions (multiscale motion) with very small amplitude and it has a relaxation mode with nearly discontinuous angular velocities of elastic twisting. The vibration amplitude increases as ${\omega}$ increases, and then it decreases as ${\omega}$ approaches ${\omega}_l$. Sectional drill strings are also considered, and the conditions of the solution at the point of the upper and lower section joints are deduced. Besides, the peculiarities of the auto-oscillations of the sectional DSs are discussed.
Background: Increased foot pronation causes biomedchanical changes at the lower limbs, which may result in musculoskeletal injuries at the proximal joints. Pronation rear-foot leads to plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, and posterior tibial tendonitis pathologically. According to the recent meta-analysis, They showed that therapeutic adhesive taping is more effective than foot orthoses and motion control footwear, low-Dye (LD) taping has become the most popular method used by physiotherapists. Objects: The purpose of this study was to determine the immediate effects of LD taping results in different ankle motion and ground reaction force (GRF) as before and after applied LD taping on pronated rear-foot during gait. Methods: Twenty-four participants were recruited for this study. The gait data were recorded using an 8-camera motion capture system and two force platforms. At first, the experiments were carried out that participants walked barefoot without LD taping. And then they walked both feet was applied LD taping. Results: The ankle inversion minimum was significantly greater after LD taping than before LD taping (p=.04); however, in the GRF, there were no significant differences in the inversion maximum or total motion of the stance phase (p=.33, p=.07), or in the vertical (p=.33), posterior (p=.22), and lateral (p=.14) peak forces. Conclusion: The application of taping to pronation rear-foot assists in increased ankle inversion.
Korean traditional martial arts Taekkyon has a unique stepping method, Poombalbki. The purpose of this study was to investigate kinematic factors and ground reaction forces on two types of Poombalbki, one of which use knee bending and the other use chiefly hip bending. Six male taekkyoners who are the students of Y University participated in this study. Positions and velocities of CoM, the elapsed times of each phase, angles and angular velocities of low limb joints, and GRFs were analyzed for this study. The results were as follows; CoMs of whole body, trunk, and head were more posteriorly positioned in performing hip bending Poombalbki than knee bending one. Horizontal velocities of those were slower in performing hip bending Poombalbki. A player stayed more shortly within range of his opponent in performing hip bending Poombalbki. The vertical and horizontal components of GRF of forward-stepping foot were smaller in performing hip bending Poombalbki(p<.05). In conclusion hip bending is useful strategy, because A player is farther from his opponent, he stayed more shortly within range of his opponent, and the smaller weight is loaded on his front foot in performing hip bending Poombalbki than knee bending one.
A hybrid position/force control scheme to regulate the force and position by dual arms is proposed where two arms are treated as one rm in a kinematic viewpoint. The force error calculated from the information of two force/torque sensors attached to the end of each arm is transferred to minimum configuration space coordinates and then is distributed to total system joint coordinates, The position adjustment at the total con-figuration coordinates is computed based on the effective compliance matrix with respect to total joint coordinates which is obtained by coordinate transformation between the task coordinates and the total joint coordinates. The proposed scheme is applied to sawing task. When the trajectory of the saw is planned to follow a line in a horizontal plane 2 position parameters are to be controlled(i.e., two translational positions) Also a certain level of contact force has to be controlled along the vertical direction(i.e. minus z-direction) not to loose the contact with the object to be sawn. We experimentally show that the performance of the velocity and force response are satisfactory. The proposed hybrid control scheme can be applied to arbitrary two cooperating arm system regardless of their kinematic structure and the number of actuated joints.
This paper presents a method to optimize the bump steer characteristics (the change of toe angle with vertical wheel travel) with respect to hard points in the double wishbone front suspension of the four-wheel-drive vehicle using the design of experiment, multibody dynamics simulation, and optimum design program. Front and rear suspensions are modeled as the interconnection of rigid bodies by kinematic joints and force elements using DADS. The design variables with respect to the kinematic characteristics are obtained through the experimental design sensitivity analysis. An object function is defined as the area of absolute differences between the desired and experimental toe angle. By the design of experiment and regression analysis, the regression model function of bump steer characteristics is extracted. The design variables that make the toe angle optimized are selected using the optimum design program DOT. The lane change simulations and tests of the full vehicle models are implemented to evaluate the improvement of vehicle handling performances by the optimization of front bump steer characteristics. The results of the lane change simulations show that the vehicle with optimized bump steer has the weaker understeer tendency than the vehicle with initial bump steer.
A hybrid control scheme to regulate the force and position by dual arms is proposed, where two arms are treated as one arm in a kinematic viewpoint. Our approach is different from other hybrid control approaches which consider robot dynamics, in the sense that we employ a purely kinematic based approach for hybrid control, with regard to the nature of position-controlled industrial robots. The proposed scheme is applied to sawing task. In the sawing task, the trajectory of the saw grasped by dual arms is planned in an offline fashion. When the trajectory of the saw is planned to follow a line in a horizontal plane, 3 position parameters are to be controlled(i.e, two translational positions and one rotational position). And a certain level of contact force has to be controlled along the vertical direction(i.e., minus z-direction) not to loose the contact with the object to be sawn. Typical feature of sawing task is that the contact position where the force control is to be performed is continuously changing. Therefore, the kinematic mapping between the force controlled position and the joint actuators has to be updated continuously. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is experimentally demonstrated. The proposed hybrid control scheme can be applied to arbitrary dual arm systems, regardless of their kinematic structure and the number of actuated joints.
The cut slopes in Jinju area constitute the Cretaceous Sedimentary rock which is one of the most poor ground conditions. The geological rocks of the cut slopes are correlated with Jinju Formation. Most of the rocks consist of Black Shale layer, but the lower parts consist of Alkorsic White Sandstone. So, It is characteristic of the differential weathering due to the difference of rock species. Moreover, vertical joints which concentrate on the released rock and weak rock fragments are accompanied with minor faults. We make out face mapping about each slopes through the detailed field-study and deduce RMR and SMR from the field data. The strength properties of rocks were obtained from references, indoor tests, and Back Analysis method. And, choosing properties were used in the stability analysis as stereographic projection and limit equilibrium analysis and we establish the countermeasures for the cut slopes.
Increasing demand for large-sized Floating, Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs) for oil and gas industries led to the development of novel geometric form of Buoyant Leg Storage and Regasification Platform (BLSRP). Six buoyant legs support the deck and are placed symmetric with respect to wave direction. Circular deck is connected to buoyant legs using hinged joints, which restrain transfer of rotation from the legs to deck and vice-versa. Buoyant legs are connected to seabed using taut-moored system with high initial pretension, enabling rigid body motion in vertical plane. Encountered environmental loads induce dynamic tether tension variations, which in turn affect stability of the platform. Postulated failure cases, created by placing eccentric loads at different locations resulted in dynamic tether tension variation; chaotic nature of tension variation is also observed in few cases. A detailed numerical analysis is carried out for BLSRP using Mathieu equation of stability. Increase in the magnitude of eccentric load and its position influences fatigue life of tethers significantly. Fatigue life decreases with the increase in the amplitude of tension variation in tethers. Very low fatigue life of tethers under Mathieu instability proves the severity of instability.
The stress field around the dynamically propagating interface crack tip under a remote mixed mode loading condition has been studied with the aid of dynamic photoelastic method. The variation of stress field around the dynamic interface crack tip is photographed by using the Cranz-Shardin type camera having $10^6$ fps rate. The dynamically propagating crack velocities and the shapes of isochromatic fringe loops are characterized for varying mixed load conditions in double cantilever beam (DCB) specimens. The dynamic interface crack tip complex stress intensity factors, $K_1\;and\;K_2$, determined by a hybrid-experimental method are found to increase as the load mixture ratio of y/x (vertical/horizontal) values. Furthermore, it is found that the dynamically propagating interface crack velocities are highly dependent upon the varying mixed mode loading conditions and that the velocities are significantly small compared to those under the mode I impact loading conditions obtained by Shukla (Singh & Shukla, 1996a, b) and Rosakis (Rosakis et al., 1998) in the USA.
This paper deals with the path creation for stable action of a robot and transformation by using the fuzzy algorithm. Also, the obstacle detection and environmental analysis are performed by a stereo vision device. The robot decides the range and the height using the fuzzy algorithm. Therefore the robot can be adapted in topography through a transformation by itself. In this paper, the robot is designed to have two advantages. One is the fast movability in flat topography with the use of wheels. The other is the moving capability in uneven ground by walking. It has six leg forms for a stable walk. The wheels are fixed on the legs of the robot, so that various driving is possible. The height and the width of robot can be changed variously using four joints of each leg. The wheeled joint has extra DOF for a rotation of vertical axis. So the robot is able to rotate through 360 degrees. The robot has various sensors for checking the own state. The stable action of a robot is achieved by using sensors. We verified the result of research through an experiment.
