  • In this study. differences in attention allocation patterns between expert and novIce pilots were investigated by a verbal protocol when pilots were engaged in a task during the instrument flight. Ten pilots including experts and novices were participated to conduct a pre-determined task(a fix-to-fix) on F-5E Cockpit Procedure Trainer Simulator. Experts show better performance as expected with more stable variations in speed. altitude. and attitude. In attention allocation patterns. novices allocated about 83% of attentional resources on the primary instruments (airspeed indicator. altitude indicator. and attitude) relating to the task of the basic flight while experts spent 57%. This difference in the availability of attentional resources allowed expert pilots to accomplish the task better than novices. In other words. training a pilot should consider a program for building up wider instrument scanning patterns to become an expert in a shorter time.

  • Three levels(high, medium, low) of maternal language were used to examine the ways in which mothers interact with their children while reading together. Eighty pairs of mothers and their children were observed in their homes. Findings were that mothers made increased use of high level language with increase in children's age and IQ. Mothers' use of high level language was greater for 6-year-olds than for 5-year-olds and use of low level language was greater for 5-year-olds than for 6-year-olds. The more educated mothers used a higher level of language while less educated mothers used a lower level of language. Mothers' use of low level language predicted lower reading ability in children.

  • The 299(162 female and 137 male) participants in this study listened to six stories designed to elicit prosocial or self-protective rules. The Aggression Scale is composed of verbal and physical aggression and expression of anger. The Quality of Peer Relationships scale has both positive and negative components. Results showed girls used more appropriate emotional regulation strategies for managing negative emotions and more prosocial motives than boys. In the regression analysis emotional display rules and gender positive strategies accounted for 6%, 9%, and 5% of the variance in verbal aggression, physical aggression and anger expression of anger. Children with prosocial motives for emotional regulation and many strategies showed lower levels of egocentricity and peer rejection.

  • It is well known that visual cues can improve the motor performance of Parkinsonian patients. Previous laboratory studies have examined the effects of visual cueing to the floor. This case study examined the effects of using a visual cue above eye level on the gait of a Parkinsonian man. It was found that cueing the patient to a target above eye level while waking not only improved the kinematic parameters of the gait cycle but also facilitated a more functional gait pattern with re-intergration of arm swing, rhythm, heel strike and a more erect posture. Visual targeting above eye level may serve as an important clinical tool for physiotherapists treating Parkinsonian patients.

The subjects of this study were 157boys and 144 girls attending elementary schools in Busan. Lee Kyung-Hee's(1993) questionnaire on mother's verval control modes, and Kang's(1986) questionnaire on emotional anxiety were used. The results were as follows: 1) There were significant differences in boys and girls about mother's imperative control mode. and children's emotional anxiety. Boys got the higher scores than the girls in mother's imperative control modes. But Girls got the higher score than the boys in children's emotional anxiety. 2) Only for boys, There were significant correlations between mother's imperative control mode and children's emotional anxiety. 3) Sex variabl and mother's imperative control mode variables were the predictor influencing on children's emotional anxiety. That is, girls shown higher emotional anxiety than boys. And children shown higher imperative control get higher emotional anxiety score.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine leadership-related variables of young children. Subjects were 467 fiveyear-olds from the region. Data were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis. Pearson’s correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Results showed that leadership in young children was related to their temperament, peer interaction, verbal control modes of mothers, and home environment. Positive peer interaction was the strongest predictor for leadership of young children.

  • The purpose of this study is to interpret the townscape of Kyungju based on the urban images captured by citizens. 58 verval interviews and 50 sketch maps were collected and analized comparing with York which was a similar old city in England. In the verbal questions, elements like tombs, historic remains, families and historic values were frequently mentioned mainly because of their social and historic meaning. But in the sketch maps, physical elements like railroad station, city hall, roundabouts and streets were more frequently appeared probably because of their visibility. As a whole, many tombs which were built long ago in and around the city were commonly mentioned in verbal questions, sketch maps and even in nicknames. As the most dominant factors, it can be compared with York Minster in York. But whereas the shopping streets in York were very attractive to the people, many streets in Kyungju were regarded as dirty and inharmonious elements in townscape. In conclusion, we can call Kyungju 'the city of tombs', but to evoke the sense of place in the city the streets should be improved and activated as the center of city life.

  • conflicting criterial used in identifying words have called the lexical integrity principle into question. That is, cases where the morphological word does not coincide with the syntactic word have notivated the syntactic view of word derivation, as pointed out by Bresnan and Mchombo(1995). Further, the implicit desire to make the clausal structure of Korean parallel to those posited for English(Chomsky 1991) and French(Pollock 1989) has also led most of the current literature on Korean morphology to claim that Korean verbal inflections head their own functional projections such as AgrP, TP, and MP im syntax. In this paper, I will first argue against such a syntactic view. After reviewing some basic properties of Korean verbal inflections, I will show that the evidence from mismatch phenomena supports the lexical integrity principle over the head-movement theories of word derivation. Then, I will propose a theory of lexical grammar which maintains the lexical integrity principle while retaining the effects of functional projections and syntactic movement.
