  • By checking the variations of the raw water quality and MLSS, the effects of the membrane materials on permeable flux and quality of the treated water were investigated in this study. Due to the stability for high variations of MLSS, tubular type membranes were selected. Polysulfone group membranes and polyamide group membranes were tested. The crossflow operation mode was adapted, because membrane fouling problems could be easily controlled by adjusting the linear velocity. Due to the high concentration of the raw water, polyamide group membranes were originally expected to achieve two times higher permeable fluxes. However, difference was only approximately $20l/m^2{\cdot}h$ at $3kgf/cm^2$. It might be resulted from the high concentration of organic materials in the effluent of the RBC process. For the quality of the treated water, polyamide group membranes were slightly less effective. It might be resulted from the fact that polysulfone group membranes had more adsorptive capacities for the organic materials. The effects of temperature on the permeable flux were found to be significant. Despite of the irregular injection of raw water, the quality of the treated water was kept stable.

  • We have investigated the seasonal characteristics of surface turbulent fluxes observed at Ieodo Ocean Research Station from 2005 to 2006. Both 10Hz and 30 minutes flux data are quality controled, and tilt correction is performed in 10Hz data before quality control. The turbulent fluxes of open sea shows clear seasonal variations, though diurnal variations are barely shown. The seasonal ratio of stable and unstable conditions are closely related to the temperature difference between sea surface and air. In stable and semi-stable condition, latent and sensible heat fluxes have very small values without any relationship with wind speed. Though friction velocity shows slightly increasing trend with wind speed, it has many outliers. In unstable condition, turbulent fluxes increased with wind speed. Especially, latent heat flux increased rapidly during DJF. The latent heat flux at high wind speeds is more scatter.

  • This paper evaluates dynamic performance of a cab over type large-sized truck for estimating the effects of frame's torsional characteristics using a computer model. The computer model considers two mounting methods of frame, flange mounting and web mounting. Frame is modeled by finite elements using MSC/NASTRAN In order to consider the flexibility of frame. The torsional test of the frame is conducted In order to validate the modeled finite element model. A load cell is used to measure the load applied to the frame. An angle sensor is used to measure the torsional angle. An actuator is used to apply a load to the frame. To estimate the effects of frame's torsional characteristics on dynamic performance, simulations are performed with the flange mounting and web mounting frame. Simulation results show that the web mounting frame's variations of roll angle, lateral acceleration, and yaw rate are larger than the flange mounting frame's variations, especially in the high velocity and the second part of the double lane course.

  • We construct the hydrology-water quality monitoring system which can watch the variations of river flow and water quality in real time. We also construct the river management system through the hydrology-water quality monitoring system that can observe water quality and its variations for preparing for the accident of river pollution. The Gyecheon basin which is located at the upstream of Heoengseong dam is selected as an experimental watershed for the system construction. The real time monitoring system for getting more correct hydrological and water quality data consists of 3-rainfall gauge station, 3-water level gauge station, and 1-water quality gauge station. We intend that the data such as rainfall, water level, velocity, flow, and water quality will be collected and we try that the data may be used for practical and other purposes.

  • We have made an investigation on the radial and azimuthal wave modes of full halo coronal mass ejections (HCMEs). For this, we consider 24 HCMEs which are simultaneously observed by SOHO and STEREO A & B from August 2010 to August 2012 when they were roughly in quadrature. Using the SOHO/LASCO C3 and STEREO COR2 A & B running difference images, we estimate the instantaneous apparent speeds of the HCMEs at 24 different position angles. Major results from this study are as follows. First, there are quasi-periodic variations of the instantaneous radial velocity with the periods ranging from 24 to 48 mins. Second, the amplitudes of instant speed variations are about a third of the projected speeds. Third, the amplitudes are found to have a weak anti-correlation with period. Our preliminary identification from SOHO observations shows that there are several distinct radial and azimuthal wave modes: m=0 (radial) for five events, m=1 for eleven events, m=2 for three events, and unclear for the other events. In addition, we are making a statistical investigation on the oscillation of 733 CMEs to understand their physical origins.

  • We report the detection of exoplanet candidates in orbits around HD 60292 and HD 112640 from a radial velocity (RV) survey. The stars exhibit RV variations with periods of 495 ±3 days and 613±6 days, respectively. These detections are part of the Search for Exoplanets around Northern Circumpolar Stars (SENS) survey using the fiber-fed Bohyunsan Observatory Echelle Spectrograph installed at the 1.8-m telescope of the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory in Korea. The aim of the survey is to search for planetary or substellar companions. We argue that the periodic RV variations are not related to surface inhomogeneities; rather, Keplerian motions of planetary companions are the most likely interpretation. Assuming stellar masses of 1.7 ± 0.2M (HD 60292) and 1.8 ± 0.2M (HD 112640), we obtain minimum planetary companion masses of 6.5 ± 1.0MJup and 5.0 ± 1.0MJup, and periods of 495.4 ± 3.0 days and 613.2 ± 5.8 days, respectively.

  • Direct numerical simulation (DNS) of strongly-heated air flows moving upward in a vertical tube has been conducted to investigate the effect of gas property variations on turbulence modification. Three heating conditions(q$_1$$^{+}$=0.0045, 0.0035 and 0.0018) are selected to reflect the experiment of Shehata and McEligot (1998) at the inlet bulk Reynolds numbers of 4300 and 6000. At these conditions, the flow inside the heated tube remains turbululent or undergoes a transition to subturbulent or laminarizing flow. Consequently, a significant impairment of heat transfer occurs due to the reduction of flow turbulence. The predictions of integral parameters and mean profiles such as velocity and temperature distributions are in excellent agreement with the experiment. The computed turbulence data indicate that a reduction of flow turbulence occurs mainly due to strong flow acceleration effects for strongly-heated internal gas flows. Thus, buoyancy influences are secondary but not negligible especially for turbulent flow at low heating condition. Digital flow visualization also shows that vortical structures rapidly decay as the heating increases.s.

  • Periodic pulsations in the static pressure near turbine surfaces as blade rows move relative to each other is one of the important sources of turbine unsteadiness. The present experiment aims to investigate the effect of the static pressure pulsations on the interaction of film coolant flows from two rows of staggered holes with mainstream and its effect on film cooling heat transfer. Potential flow pulsations are generated by the rotating shutter mechanism installed downstream of the test section, The free-stream Strouhal number based on the boundary layer thickness is in the range of 0.033 - 0.33, and the amplitude of about 10-20%. Measured are time-averaged and phase-averaged velocity variations, pressure variations and temperature distributions of the flow field. Experimental conditions are identified by boundary layer measurements. Injectant behavior is characterized by the measurements of unsteady pressure in the plenum chamber and free-stream static pressure. The film cooling effectiveness is evaluated from the insulated wall temperature measurement. It has been found that bulk flow pulsation provides very large diffusion of the injectants and the effectiveness is significantly reduced by the flow pulsations.

  • The purpose of the present study is to search for and study the origin of planetary companion by a precise radial velocity (RV) survey for K dwarfs. The high-resolution spectroscopy of the fiber-fed Bohyunsan Observatory Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO) is used from September 2008 to June 2012. We report the detection of two new exoplanets in orbit around HD 208527, and HD 220074 with exhibiting a periodic variation of 875.5 and 672.1 days. The examinations of surface inhomogeneous are no related to the RV variations and Keplerian motion is the most likely explanation, which suggests that the RV variations arise from an orbital motion under the influence of planetary companion. We obtain the minimum masses for the exoplanets of 11.5 and 11.1 MJup with an orbital semi-major axis of 2.3 and 1.6 AU and an eccentricity of 0.08 and 0.14, respectively. From the literatures and our estimations of stellar parameters, the luminosity class of HD 208527 is changed K dwarf to K giant and the spectral type of HD 220074 is confirmed M giant rather than K dwarf. HD 220074 is the first M giant star harboring a planetary companion.

  • In this study, the GSP and in-house numerical codes have been used for analyses of the on-design, static off-design and dynamic off-design performances. Through the various missions including altitude, velocity, and power variations static engine performance have been investigated. The dynamic engine performances based on these complicated variations have been also analysed. Especially, the power, engine rpm and heat overload characteristics of a turbine have been estimated with the response time through the control of a throttle setting rather than a power setting. It could be applied to the FADEC system as an engine control device.
