Analysis of Gait Velocity, Stance time on Obstacle and Dual Task Gait in Elderly Women with LBP (요통 여성 노인의 장애물과 이중 과제 보행 시 속도 및 입각기 시간 분석)

  • Purpose : This study was to evaluate gait velocity and stance time on 5 conditions in elderly women and elderly women with LBP. The subjects were 70's generation. Methods : The subjects are 20 divided into 2 groups. They measured gait velocity, stance-time. The 5 conditions were normal gait, 10cm obstacle gait, 25cm obstacle gait, dual 10cm obstacle gait, dual 25cm obstacle gait. The experimental period was between 2008/12 and 2009/2. Statistical analysis was used Repeated measurement for difference between conditions, independent t-test for difference in two groups. Subjects were countdown from 50 during dual task gait. Results : The results were as follow: there were significantly difference 10cm obstacle velocity, dual 10cm obstacle velocity in two group. The others were not significantly differences. Velocity and stance-time were significantly difference in control group. In dual 25cm obstacle gait, velocity was difference of normal gait. Stance-time was difference in 25cm obstacle gait, and dual 25cm obstacle gait. In Experimental group, velocity and stance-time were not significantly difference. But measured value of velocity was gradually decreased and stance time was increased. Conclusion : These results indicate that elderly people with LBP women are reduced gait ability in dual task, and obstacle condition. So they need to prevent falling in dual task, and obstacle gait and to train obstacle/dual tak gait.

  • Purpose : This study was to evaluate gait velocity and muscle activity on 3 different gait conditions in elderly women. Methods : There were one group was 20's generation(n=12), and the other group was over 60's generation (n=12). The velocity of gait was analysed for using the Footscan system, EMG(MP150) for muscle activity. Subjects were measured 3 gait condition(normal, obstacle-10cm, dual obstacle-10cm. Measured values were used by the independent t-test for analysing between groups, and repeated measurement of ANOVA for analysing within group. Results : The results were as follow: velocity and acticities of lower 4 muscles were significantly differences in experimental group. In control group, there were not significantly differences. Contrast-groups were significantly differences of velocity(obstacle, dual obstacle), muscle activities(soleus-dual obstacle, hamstring-all). Conclusion : These results indicate that elderly people are reduced gait ability in dual task, and obstacle gait. So Elderly women need to training obstacle/dual gait for preventing falling.

A Collision Avoidance Algorithm of a Mobile Robot in the Presence of Moving Obstacle (움직이는 장애물이 있을때 이동 로봇의 충돌 회피 알고리즘)

  • For the use of a mobile robot in dynamic environment, a collision-avoidance algorithm with moving obsta- cle is necessary. In this paper, a collsion-avoidance algorithm of a mobile robot is presented, when a mobile robot detects the collision with moving obstacle on the navigational path. Using reported positions of moving obstacle with sensors, the mobile robot predicts the next position of moving obstacle with possibility of collision. The velocity of moving obstacle is modeled as random walk process with Gaussian distribution. The optimal collision-avoidance path in which turning motion of the mobile robot is considered is generated with relative velocity between the mobile robot and moving obstacle. For the safety of collision-avoidance path, attractive potential with the safety factor is suggested. The simulation results using this algorithm show the mobile robot avoids collision with moving obstacle in many cases.

Obstacle Avoidance Using Velocity Dipole Field Method

  • The velocity dipole field method is presented for real-time collision avoidance of mobile robots. The direction of motion of the obstacle is used as the axis of the dipole field, and the speed of the obstacle is used to proportionally strengthen the dipole field. The elliptical field lines of the dipole field are useful to skillfully guide the robot around obstacles, quite similar to the way humans avoid moving obstacles. Field modulation coefficient is also introduced to weaken the field effect as the obstacle recedes. The real-time algorithm of the velocity dipole field has been devised and experimentally tested on the robot soccer test-bed. The results show the capability of the new real-time collision avoidance strategy and how it can overcome the weaknesses in the conventional potential field method. The new method makes an explicit and proactive action of collision avoidance, unlike the conventional method, which forces the robot merely away from the obstacle aimlessly. The proposed method delivers greater capability with no considerable computational overhead

The Effects of Obstacle Walking training on Gait and Balance of Stroke Patients (장애물보행훈련이 뇌졸중 환자의 보행 및 균형에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose : The purpose of the study was to find out the effects of obstacle walking training according on gait and balance in stroke patients. Methods : Twenty-four stroke patients are randomly assigned to experimental group 1 (n=8), experimental group 2 (n=8) and control group (n=8). Experimental group 1 performed unexpected obstacle walking training, experimental group 2 performed fixed obstacle walking training and control group performed non obstacle walking training for 12 minutes per session, 5 times a week for 4 weeks. The gait analyzer G-walk were evaluated using gait cadence, gait velocity, and stride length, balance was evaluated using FES-K and BBS. Results : In within-group comparison of gait cadence, gait velocity and stride length of change, the experimental 1,2 groups showed significant improvements post intervention (p<.05) but control group showed no significant improvement. In between-groups comparison there was significant difference in the change of gait cadence, gait velocity and stride length pre and post intervention. In within-group comparison of FES-K and BBS scores, the experimental 1,2 groups showed significant improvements post intervention (p<.05) but control group showed no significant improvement. In between-groups comparison there was significant difference in the change of FES-K and BBS scores pre and post intervention (p<.05). Conclusion : Obstacle walking training can improve the gait, function and balance of stroke patients and obstacle walking training is effective for improving gait and balance compared to non-obstacle walking training.

  • The study of model for velocity and turbulence within the urban canopy was carried out. To evaluate existing urban model we conducted wind tunnel experiment and large-eddy simulation (LES). Mean velocity profile and turbulence are measured within simple three different obstacle arrays. To obtain supplemental data and to verify morphological model large-eddy simulation was performed. Several methods have been used to achieve embodying the flow field in urban area. Recently, morphological method obtaining flow parameters from the statistical or physical representation of obstacle elements is a arising method. It was found that all morphological model, evaluated in this study, over predict the friction velocity, most sensitive one among the flow parameters. Velocity and turbulence in the urban canopy layer were improved by the correction using 'true' friction velocity.

Lane-Curvature Method : A New Method for Local Obstacle Avoidance (차선-곡률 방법 : 새로운 지역 장애물 회피 방법)

  • The Lane-Curvature Method(LCM) presented in this paper is a new local obstacle avoidance method for indoor mobile robots. The method combines Curvature-Velocith Method(CVM) with a new directional method called the Lane Method. The Lane Method divides the environment into lanes taking the information on obstacles and desired heading of the robot into account ; then it chooses the best lane to follow to optimize travel along a desired heading. A local heading is then calculated for entering and following the best lane, and CVM uses this heading to determine the optimal translational and rotational velocity space methods, LCM yields safe collision-free motion as well as smooth motion taking the dynamics of the robot Xavier, show the efficiency of the proposed method.

Comparison of Spatio-temporal Gait Parameters between Paretic and Non-paretic Limb while Stepping over the Different Obstacle's Heights in Subjects with Stroke (편마비 환자의 장애물 높이에 따른 마비측과 비마비측 하지의 시공간적 보행변수 비교)

  • PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to compare the spatio-temporal gait parameters between paretic and non-paretic limb while stepping over the different obstacle's heights in subjects with stroke. METHODS: Nine subjects with stroke were participated in this study. Subjects were asked to step over obstacles with a different height. 8 camera motion analysis system(Motion Analysis Corporation, Santa Rosa, USA) was used to measure spatio-temporal parameters. The two way repeated measurement ANOVA was used to compare spati-temporal gait parameters between paretic and non-paretic limbs while stepping over a different obstacle's height(0cm, 10cm, 20cm). RESULTS: Step width, velocity, single supoort time, and double support time were not different among obstacle's height(p>0.05) but stride length, step length, and cadence were significantly different(p>0.05). In stride length, cadence, and double support time, the interactions between obstacle's heights and limbs were not different(p>0.05) but it was significantly different in velocity, step length, and single support time(p<0.05). Velocity, stride length, cadence, and double support times were not different between paretic limb and non-paretic limb(p>0.05) but step length and single support times were significantly different between paretic limb and non-paretic limb(p<0.05). CONCLUSION: These results show that there are differences with spatio-temporal gait parameters among obstacle's heights and between paretic and non-paretic limb during obstacle crossing in subjects with stroke.

A Lane Based Obstacle Avoidance Method for Mobile Robot Navigation

  • This paper presents a new local obstacle avoidance method for indoor mobile robots. The method uses a new directional approach called the Lane Method. The Lane Method is combined with a velocity space method i.e., the Curvature-Velocity Method to form the Lane-Curvature Method (LCM). The Lane Method divides the work area into lanes, and then chooses the best lane to follow to optimize travel along a desired goal heading. A local heading is then calculated for entering and following the best lane, and CVM uses this local heading to determine the optimal translational and rotational velocities, considering some physical limitations and environmental constraint. By combining both the directional and velocity space methods, LCM yields safe collision-free motion as well as smooth motion taking the physical limitations of the robot motion into account.

  • In this paper, we investigate a collision avoidance algorithm for unmanned aerial vehicles using potential field based on the relative velocity of obstacles. The potential field consists of the attraction force and the repulsive force that are generated for the target and the obstacles. And the field can be classified into the attractive potential field generated by the target and the repulsive potential field generated by the obstacle, respectively. In this study, we construct an attractive potential field as a function of the distance between the UAV and the target position. On the other hand, a repulsive potential field is created by a function of distance and the relative velocity of the obstacle with respect to the UAV. The proposed potential field based collision avoidance algorithm is evaluate through simulations.
