Intelligent control of pneumatic actuator using MPWM (MPWM을 이용한 공압 실린더의 지능제어)

  • Pneumatic control system has been applied to build many industrial automation systems. But most of them are sequence control type because of their low costs, safety, reliability, etc. Pneumatic servo system is rarely applied to real industrial fields because accurate position control is very difficult due to its nonlinearity and compressibility of air. In pneumatic servo control system, a pneumatic servo valve can be applied, But it is very expensive and has no advantage of low cost compared with a common pneumatic system. This paper is concerned with the accurate position control of a rodless pneumatic cylinder using on/off solenoid valve. A novel Intelligent Modified Pulse Width Modulation(MPWM) is newly proposed. The control performance of this pneumatic cylinder depends on the external loads. To overcome this problem, switching of control parameter using artificial neural network is newly proposed, which estimates external loads on rodless pneumatic cylinder using this training neural network. As an underlying controller, a state feedback controller using position, velocity and acceleration is applied in the switching control the system. The effectiveness of the proposed control algorithms are demonstrated through experiments nth various loads.

Numerical Analysis of the Unsteady Pressure fluctuation Generated from the Interaction between a Vortex Flow with a Forward Step (와류와 전향계단의 상호작용에 의한 비정상 벽면압력 변동의 수치해석)

  • Modifying effects of the rectangular forward step for suppressing the unsteady pressure fluctuation during interaction between the upstream vortical flow and the edge are studied numerically. The vertical flow is modeled by a point vortex, and the unsteady pressure coefficient is obtained from the velocity and the potential fields. To investigate the effects of the edge shape the rectangular forward step is chamfered wish various angles. Calculation shows that the pressure peaks become decreased by increasing the vortex height as well as the chamfering angle. The pressure amplitudes are very sensitive to the change of the initial vertex height and its strength. From this study we can find out that the chamfered edge has two effects; the one is that it suppresses the pressure amplitude generated from the edge, and the other is that it decreases the time variation of unsteady pressure fluctuation. These modifying concepts can be applied to attenuate the self-sustained oscillation mechanism at the open cavity flow.

A numerical study of the eccentricity effect of the intake valve on the in-cylinder flow field (실린더 내부 유동장에 대한 흡입 밸브의 편심 효과에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • Three dimensional numerical calculation carried out to investigate the eccentricity effect of intake valve on the in-cylinder flow fields for the intake stroke and the compression stroke. During the intake stroke, a corner vortex in the vicinity of the valve exit interacted strongly with a toroidal vortex in the case of axisymmetric valve. But a weak interaction between the corner vortex and the toroidal vortex occurred due to the eccentricity of the valve in the narrow region between valve and cylinder wall in the case of offset valve. During the compression stroke, it was found that a solid body rotation was maintained in the radial-circumferential plane in the case of axisymmetric valve. But a weak secondary vortex was formed in the radial-circumferntial plane in the case of offset valve, because of the interaction between swirl flows and inward flows towards cylinder axis. The calculated turbulence intensity presented a similar trend with the experiental results but, in spite of using the modified k-.epsilon. model, it was found that the qualitative difference between the numerical results and experimental results was large in the region where the velocity gradient is substantial.

  • The outer-most electrons of metal atoms and the remining valence electrons of any molecular atoms make three dimensional crystallizing $\pi$-bondings. The electrons on the $\pi$-bonding orbital rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise and they then make electro-magnetic waves between atoms on the orbital because electron move between plus charged ions. The three dimensional crystallizing $\pi$-bonding orbitals are quantum-mechanically modeled by a cyclic Kronig-Penny Model and energy band structures are analyzed with their potential barrier thickness. The waves generated between plus charged ions are the particular $\pi$-far infrared rays, which have dual properties between material and electro-magnetic waves and can be measured not by modern electro-magnetic tester but biosensor such as finger's force tester. Because the $\pi$-rays can be modulated with electro-magnetic waves it can be applied for harmful electro-magnetic wave killers. Because the $\pi$-rays make new three dimensional crystallizing $\pi$-bonding orbitals in the material the food and drink can be transformed into a helpful physical constitutional property for human health. Distinction between crystalline and amorphous metals is possible because very strong crystalline $\pi$-bonding orbitals can not easily be transformed into another. The $\pi$-rays can also be applied for biofunctional diagnostics and therapy. Gravitational field is one of the electro-magnetic fields.   • Turbulent flow and thermal fields of gaseous hydrogen/liquid oxygen flames at supercritical pressure are investigated by turbulence models. The modified Soave-Redlich-Kwong (SRK) EOS is implemented into the flamelet model to realize real-fluid combustions. For supercritical fluid flows, the modified pressure-velocity-density coupling are introduced. Based on the algorithm, the relative performance of six convection schemes and the predictions of four turbulence models are compared. The selected turbulence models are needed to be modified to consider various characteristics of real-fluid combustions.

  • A study on the fluid flow with ultrasonic forcing was carried out to get the enhancement of turbulence by laying emphasis on the ultrasonic incidence angles and reflectors. A large water tank was made of the transparent acrylic plates and city water of $25^{\circ}C$ was used as working fluid. 7 angles ($30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ},\;60^{\circ},\;90^{\circ},\;120^{\circ},\;135^{\circ},\;150^{\circ}$) as the ultrasonic incidence angle and 4 materials (wood, acryl, glass, iron) as the reflector were selected arid experiments for the above were made. The velocity vector distribution, kinetic energy and turbulence intensity of the turbulence flow fields enhanced by ultrasonic forcing were measured, compared and discussed by using the PIV measurement which was possible to measure the velocities of simultaneous multipoints. In results, it was cleared that the incidence angle of ultrasonic and material of reflector influenced the enhancement of turbulence.

Structural intensity analysis of a large container carrier under harmonic excitations of propulsion system

  • The structural intensity analysis, which calculates the magnitude and direction of vibrational energy flow from vibratory velocity and internal force at any point of a structure, can give information on dominant transmission paths, positions of sources and sinks of vibration energy. This paper presents a numerical simulation system for structural intensity analysis and visualization to apply for ship structures based on the finite element method. The system consists of a general purpose finite element analysis program MSC/Nastran, its pre- and post-processors and an in-house program module to calculate structural intensity using the model data and its forced vibration analysis results. Using the system, the structural intensity analysis for a 4,100 TEU container carrier is carried out to visualize structural intensity fields on the global ship structure and to investigate dominant energy flow paths from harmonic excitation sources to superstructure at resonant hull girder and superstructure modes.

  • In this paper, the effect of battery-package shape of electric vehicle on the forced convection around a group of battery cells has been numerically investigated. Simulations for the two package shapes with straight/curved ducts have been conducted to examine the two design factors; the maximum temperature and the temperature deviation of a group of cells which influence the cell durability. The simulation of the conjugate heat transfer has been simplified by employing an equivalent thermal conductivity of cell that consists of various materials. It has been found that the maximum temperature and the temperature deviation of curved duct were lower than those of straight duct. Velocity fields have also been examined to describe the temperature distribution of a group of cells and the position of maximum temperature was found to be related to the dead zone of flow field.

  • In this study, a new numerical procedure for the generation of a nonlinear tailored group of waves is presented. The procedure is based on the transient wave group technique. In order to integrate the nonlinearity during the wave propagation in the computational method, the Navier-Stokes equations are applied as governing equations. The governing equations are discretized by finite volume approximation. The deformation of the free water surface in each time step is pursued with a moving grid. A two-dimensional, numerical wave tank for the simulation of the wave propagation is developed and tested in detail. The numeric results are compared first with analytical wave theories and with measurements, in order to examine the correctness of the numerical wave tank. Wave surface elevation and associated fields of velocity and pressure are numerically computed and compared with measurements. Very good agreements show up.

A Numerical Study on the Heat Transfer Characteristics of the Multiple Slot Impinging Jet (다양한 노즐 수 변화에 따른 충돌 제트의 열전달 특성에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • The present study numerically investigates two-dimensional flow and heat transfer in the multiple confined impinging slot jet. Numerical simulations are performed for the different Reynolds numbers(Re=100 and 200) in the range of nozzles from 1 to 9 and height ratios(H/D) from 2 to 5, where H/D is the ratio of the channel height to the slot width. The vector plots of velocity profile, stagnation and averaged Nusselt number distributions are presented in this paper. The dependency of thermal fields on the Reynolds number, nozzle number and height ratio can be clarified by observing the Nusselt number as heat transfer characteristic at the stagnation point and impingement surface. The Nusselt number at the stagnation point of the central slot shows unsteadiness at H/D=3 and Re=200. The value of Nusselt number at the stagnation point of the central slot decreases with higher Reynolds number and number of nozzle although overall area averaged Nusselt number increases. Hence careful selection of geometrical parameters and number of nozzle are necessary for optimization of the heat transfer performance of multiple slot impinging jet.
